“Eclectic, tasty & fun”
Reviewed 27 November 2013

We came to Cuca not quite knowing what to expect. I must say, Cuca impressed in every possible aspect. The service is immaculate. Super friendly staff, patiently assisting you while choosing from their quite unconventional menu. And if you manage to sit at the bar overlooking the kitchen you'll find the chef giving you spot-on recommendations and crazy little complimentary samples.
All the dishes we've had were eccentric and exceptionally tasty. The menu can be slightly confusing at first, but once you get a hang of it it's actually quite fun. We also highly recommend their dessert menu, with special emphasis on the 'Bali breakfast' dish.

“Memorable dinner in Bali”
Reviewed 25 November 2013

Well, we had a memorable dinner at Cuca in Bali. The food was not only tasty but also very beautiful..especially the desserts and salad. We loved all of them. The staff was extremely attentive and friendly. They made us feel comfortable. The price of our meal was not cheap, but totally worth it.
Overall, good experience. We will go back again on our next visit to Bali !

“Cuca Tapas Restaurant, little gem in Jimbaran”
Reviewed 24 November 2013

After reading Hans blog about Cuca, we know we had to go and try it. Cuca is a Tapas and Cocktail restaurant in Jimbaran, Bali is relatively easy to find on Jalan Uluwatu, just look for Kayu Manis hotel or the hotel restaurant sign by the road and turn in (don’t worry if the village road is a bit dark, just continue until you found the restaurant on the left side). The restaurant is actually quite spacious, has its own parking space inside and by the street side.

The space overall is pretty nice, but a bit dark at night time and not enough lighting we feel. But is probably a great place at day time, upon entering the restaurant you will see the wide and spacious open kitchen with table sitting slightly higher by the kitchen so you can see everything. The dining area was separated with sheets for privacy.

We started with Chilled Watermelon Salad, followed by two sharing tapas of Crispy Fried Chicken and Wagyu Beef. Which were all very very nice, but the portion are small and price is a bit up. Interesting the waiter shared all ingredients are using local Bali’s only, which is quite impressive considering the quality of fusion and molecular concept cuisine in the small details.

We tried the two desserts – Monkey Business and Bali Breakfast. The Monkey Business was very nice with a touch of liquor, while the Bali Breakfast was impressive with fermented Mango that was yummy mixed with mashed Coconut.

Definitely will come back on the day for a review of the drinks.

Well what a stunning place. The staff, the food, and the unique design. After alerting the staff on the phone that I was gluten intolerant. Each waiter was so lovely and attentive to my dietary requirements telling me what I could and couldn't have and were even willing to amend some dishes so that i was allowed to have them . The cocktails are amazing and presented in an amazing modern way . Try the Bloody Mary . Great for a romantic dinner. I love this place and will defiantly come back. Highlights : the crunchy chicken. Chicken chichas and the watermelon salad xxx

“Don't be confused: this is not just a tapas bar - it's haute cuisine!”
Reviewed 22 November 2013

We spent a single night on Bali on the way back home from a holiday on Flores so we just took a stroll along the beach, to have dinner in one of the numerous seafood restaurants located along the beach but were attracted by the sign of a tapas restaurant because we had mainly Indonesian and some Italian food for the last 3 weeks. We walked to the restaurant and were handed a flyer which stated that the chef worked in Michelin star awarded restaurants. We hesitated to walk right in because it seemed to be more upper class than we expected and we were not dressed for the occasion. After another short walk on the beach we thought: "what the ... it's the last dinner of the holiday, so let's just do it". We walked in and felt welcome from the start. We decided to have the chefs tasting meal. This consisted of 10 dishes to share and we absolutely loved everyone of them. Made of locally produced ingredients, which is a very good choice because the land produces very tasteful products, the local community benefits, no costful and CO2 producing transport and delivered fresh to the kichen. The dishes were cooked to perfection, some of the preparations were real taste explosions in your mouth. Absolutely Michelin star worthy. (We visited numerous 1 - 3 star restaurants in Holland and the quality of the food at Cuca can certainly be compared with the better ones!) The asian gaspacho that accompanied the BBQ octopus was outstanding, but all the dishes tasted great, desserts included. Staff is young, but enthusiastic. We never expected to find this restaurant quality in this location but were very happy that we were in the right spot at the right moment. To Balinese standards, the prices are on the high side, but having a similar dinner in our home country would have cost 4 - 5 times as much! This restaurant would be the reason for us to choose Bali as a destination or stopover for one of our next holidays. Thank you all very much!
