So, I paid something like USD25 (with breakfast) for this place, and frankly, it was worth every penny. It's located on a stretch of Kuta that's 5 - 10 mins walking distance to all the crazy clubs & crowds, and yet it's a quiet part of the street (it's directly on the main road and not down an alley like most places), which means a good night of sleep when you need it most! (ie: after partying hard).
It's basic and clean, and the service is ok. I had a room with two single beds, and it was comfortably spacious. I don't recall anywhere to put your clothes though, so you basically have to live out of your bag.
The room had a flatscreen, and wifi - yay! - (though internet in Bali is nothing to shout about so be prepared for slowness on smartphones/laptops).
Hmmm, the bathroom situation is interesting. It's not attached to the room, but everyone has their own which they open with a key. Mine was right across the hall from me. So the toilet and shower is private, but you share the sink with your neighbor. All-in-all that's not too bad except that you need to lock your door and unlock your bathroom door when you need to pee in the middle of the night, which is an interesting prospect if you've had a bit to drink and are half asleep.
Breakfast is a hoot. There's no choice. You just eat what they give you. I was only there for one night and my breakfast the next morning was stir fried noodles with an egg. It was actually pretty tasty.
Things to watch out for:
Noisy people. Sound carries like crazy in that place.
Calling the hotel is a bit of an adventure because it is actually the budget arm of Villa de Daun, and the calls all go to their desk. Confusion usually ensues before your caller is actually put through to your room.
There are no late checkouts. In fact, the front desk called me on checkout day at 9.30 when I was still in la la land to "remind me" that breakfast ends at 11. I think it was their way of saying "you better be ready to leave at 12". I then got another call at 11.55 to "remind me" it was time to check out.
In conclusion: I wouldn't do it for more than a night, maybe two. If you want to be near Kuta's party places, it's a decent option. The beach is pretty far away (25 min walk) but the clubs are close.
