“Great Hotel Good Value”
Reviewed 19 January 2014

Hotel Kumala Pantai is A great hotel just across the road from Legian Beach. There are several blocks located in this hotel all surrounded by beautiful plants and flowers. There are two pools in the hotel, one new and the other slightly older. Both pools have bars where you can get towels and order lunch from. The rooms in the hotel are large, clean and tidy with daily housekeeping services. Rooms also have cable TV with local and international channels like Australia Network and HBO, One let down though is the WiFi which is free in the restaurant but gets VERY slow due to everyone attempting to use it, WiFi is paid for in all other areas of the hotel. Go to the restaurant at 11am or 3pm to get the best WiFi signal because it is between the main meals meaning the restaurant is lest crowded. The staff at the hotel are friendly and courteous but some hove a can't do attitude. The Buffet at the hotel is included in the cost and has a medium range of foods but has awful hygiene standards, many people in the hotel were complaning of people in their party getting Bali Belly 4 out of 8 people in our group were vomiting and felt awful. The location of the hotel is Amazing with a massive choice of Resturants, Bars and Shops near the hotel, Jalan Arjuna (Double 6) is a five minute walk away and has lots of shops and a nightclub. Not to mention the beach is right across the road from the hotel. Overall, being people who have stayed at the hotel multiple times we would definitely come back.

This is a huge property. I loved that it was right across from the beach. Each morning, my husband and I went for a walk along the beach.

The location was the best part of the hotel. The room was a good size, but I did not find it that up-to-date. The towels and sheets had stains on them and were a bit shabby. The cleaning guy did a fabulous job though. I just think that management needs to invest in newer products. I also did not like that there was some dirty, old laminated paper in the room stating the price of each item if I steal them. I'm looking for a place to stay, not a new pillow case and towel. There is no wifi available in the rooms. I understand; it would cost a fortunate to update it through those thick walls. Wifi was available at the restaurant, but that was slow.

The pools and grounds are beautiful. It's really nice to read by the pool. But once again, the towels to check out there were dirty.

The breakfast was decent.

This hotel sports lovely rooms that are both spacious and comfortable. The TV has many channels for movies, kids, foreigners and even an Australia Network. The beds are quite hard but the pillows are soft and comfortable. House keeping can be somewhat slack but it does look tidy after.

However the staff are tired and unresponsive. Unfortunately it put a damper on the whole experience. The staff do sometimes greet you as you walk past, however it is not every time, like the Balinese experience you would normally get. The men try harder at pleasing the guests more than the women.

The pool bars are quite nice and relaxing, as are the pools.

Overall an average experience. For the price, you can stay at places in Seminyak or Nusa Dua which are more relaxing and empowering.

Stayed at kumala over Christmas in connecting rooms in h block ( 2 adults 2 children). Third stay at this hotel first in h block rooms the same as the rest of the hotel except view of the gardens instead of pool which was fine . Pool area always clean and tidy pool lounges do need to be repainted and twice in a week there were no pool towels! Breakfast is adequate and restaurant staff very polite and always there to refill coffee / tea and remove dirty plates. Rooms cleaned promptly every day however bathrooms need to be cleaned more thoroughly. Hotel is in the perfect area restaurants and shops just outside your door as well as the beach across the road. Overall this is a great value for money hotel perfect location and beautiful large swimming pools.

We are not snobs but we found this hotels staff need a little instruction on looking after people. We did notice that patrons who had been before seemed to be looked after well. First day we go to the pool bar and order several different cocktails from their menu only to be told they dont have the ingredients to make them. There was no indication that they would be able to meet our needs the next day. As it was they couldnt. Asked it they could call a cab or if we could call a cab we were told that it would cost us. One day my husband and I got caught in a down pour of rain and passed three staff members with umbrellas not one of them offered to walk us to our room. On our last night my parents asked for a wake up call which came 15 minutes late and they asked for someone to come and pick up the bags. My husband ended up getting the trolley to collect the bags. When we arrived in reception the staff were laying on the chairs having a little nap. Sitting at the pool bar you would put your feet on the upright post only to be covered with black sludge. During the last two days our soap was not replaced and we were using our shower soap as our hand soap. The hotel must have been grand in its day as the surroundings are beautiful and the rooms are nice (in need of maintenence though and hygiene needs to be looked at especially if a bug is going around). The beds are as hard as nails, pillows are very soft and I know that our bed creaked everytime you rolled over and we were not the only ones in our group who complained. The hotel needs some incentive program for staff to offer good service and be rewarded for it, as there seems to be very little morale. The fireworks over this period drove you insane when you were trying to sleep as they could be heard all night. Great location just not a place we would stay again.

We stayed 9 nights in December with our two sons and their families. We had an Ambassador Suire so that the little one aged 2 could go to bed and as Nana and Pa we could babysit of an evening without her having to move between rooms. The hotel is well positioned with good restaurants nearby and an easy walk or taxi ride to Kuta or Seminyak. The rooms were clean and functional and opened out onto a verandah where we could all meet. We were on the S block right on the pool with the swim up bar. there is a small pool as part of it near the bar, great for little ones. The staff were polite and the reception staff helped us book restaurants at no cost. real fast was fine with plenty of choices. All in all we enjoyed our time there. I believe the price is fair and the position ideal for those wanting to be right on the beach and near all amenities. We would stay again. One of our party fell ill and the doctors at the front of the hotel (turn right out of reception and it's just up the road on the left) was great. Even made a house all after the initial visit to his rooms at no additional cost. Would recommend.

Room Tip: ambassador rooms on ground floor in blocks S or SG

The rooms are fine for the price. Need a little attention but only cosmetic. Loved the gardens and the pool. The location was perfect, away from the hustle and bustle of Kuta but close enough that if you wanted to you could walk there. Close to the shopping strip and Seminyak. Opposite Legian Beach and many restaurants within walking distance. Staff were lovely and friendly. Would stay here again.
