Just got back from 8 fantastic days at the Patra. My family and I really enjoyed the Patra, my family being my three young boys and husband. Our boys ages are 6, 3 and 10 months and the deluxe suites really accommodated us. They are huge and the beauty of these suites for us was that you could close the door off between our bedroom and the living area. We could put our 10 month old down for his afternoon sleep (we moved his HUGE cot supplied by the hotel in our room) and closed the double sliding doors off while our older two boys played or watch TV. They have a two TV’s in these suites, one in the living room where the boys slept (sofa lounge) and also one in the main bedroom. Our suite was upstairs which wasn’t a problem, what we would do with the pram was just leave it at the bottom of the stairs everyday instead of lugging it up. It was fine.

The resort itself was very lush and huge. We weren’t too far from the lobby or pool (room 432), but if we did feel up for the walk you could just jump into the hotel buggy’s, the boys found this to be more of a treat than anything. The pool was awesome, especially for kids, it isn’t too deep, our boys loved going every morning for a swim. The staff also have organised pool/water games everyday e.g. water polo/volleyball and pillow fighting. Lots of fun.

Our boys also enjoyed the kids club everyday. While our little one was having his afternoon nap the older two would go in for a couple of hours everyday, and we would order them lunch (only about $6.00 AUS) and they could get mini hamburgers or min hotdogs with fries. They have playstation and organised activities everyday.

The distance of the hotel into the downtown Kuta didn’t bother us, we actually preferred being away from all the hustle and bustle. We did venture in via the beach track one night which me and my husband really enjoyed but the kids thought it was a bit far, (only 15 minute walk). I would walk it in the morning to get my daily exercise before the kids were up. The airport was close but again didn’t bother us, our boys and myself enjoyed watching the planes (from the beach path) take off and land. You could hear it but you sort of block it out after the first day.

I would definitely recommend this hotel. The rooms (deluxe family suite) sold me on this property. They really suited our family and are huge. Breakfast is great here too, lots of variety and it changes daily. Cause we had kids there was a separate section that sort of separated from the main restaurant part behind two double glass doors (right next to Egg Corner) so if the kids got a bit noisy it didn’t really bother anyone, lots of families went into this room for the same reason.

The only one thing that I can probably pick with this hotel is that the room service isn’t the quickest, took over an hour to get some ice (there is no freezer in their fridges) and another day we actually had to remind them that we ordered some ice because it never showed up. But hey your on holidays so waiting for a little ice didn’t cause us too much distress. Also I read on this review site there are little sugar ants so before I left Australia I bought zip lock bags to put the kids snacks in or anything I thought would attracts ants and I also bought some insect spray.

Have fun if you have booked this hotel, I think you will thoroughly enjoy it.

Tripadvisor was really useful for me so here's my contribution by way of a thanks!
Patra is a beautiful hotel. We stayed in a deluxe suite (family of 5, kids aged 12, 10, 8) for 2 weeks and had a superb holiday. The grounds are beautiful, peaceful and lush. The main pool is just stunning and there were fantastic extra pool games organised for the kids every day. Kids Club was good - the kids loved it. The rooms are quiet, very spacious and light. We were in room 432 and the outlook from all windows was leafy and beautiful - almost like we were in a private villa somewhere!

Breakfast was really good - help yourself to the tea/coffee if the service is a bit slow. The other hotel food was only average but while we were there (2 weeks) they had a couple of special offers on and we enjoyed our 'nights in' eating at the hotel.

Miscellaneous tips:
1. Take USD$25 notes per person for your visa-on-arrival ro you will likely get ripped off (we were). Lonely Planet says they accept credit card - they didn't for us!
2. Ask for a second room key-card when checking in - you can keep the aircon on when out and about.
3. The Bluebird taxis are a very good, cheap service. Concierge will call one for you from the lobby and mostly they arrive in <5 minutes.
4. Go to 'Galleria, hypermarket' - the taxi-driver will know this. This is a supermarket with all your supplies at local prices. The take-away chicken we had there was great too!!
5. Order a free ice-bucket from room service for your cold drinks (the mini-bar fridge is a bit wimpy. Ours died but was immediately replaced).
6. Made (pronounced Mah-day) is a really helpful, wonderful driver and charges Rp350 000-500 000 for a full day's outing. His number is [--].
7. Price guide: T-shirts/boardies Rp 20-50 000 depending on quality. Sunnies Rp10-20 000.
8. If you want a lovely indonesian meal at a down-market restaurant we can recommend Depot Mulya (oppposite 'Harris Hotel, Tuban'). We also got nasi goreng from a street stall 2 minutes wlak north on the same street- it was Rp5 000 and delicious! At the same spot you can get a pan-fried omelette thing for Rp12-18 000 that we enjoyed (but oily!!). And no, we never got sick!
9. If you go to Jimbaran Bay for seafood on the beach SHOP AROUND!! We got really badly ripped off - average food and huge prices (we were at 'Jimbaran Bay Seafood')! Other people did well elsewhere in Jimbaran though.
10. Hotel location was quiet and good but it is a pity needing to get a taxi to get anywhere (too hot for the kids to walk far!).
11. If you go to Waterbom Park you don't need to buy an extended pass up front. Inside you can buy passes for 2nd/3rd days at discounted rates if you find your 1 day ticket is not enough for you.

I hope you love it all as much as we did!

This was our 5th trip to bali and while the Patra has some excellent points it also has some bad ones.
Good; Really friendly staff and really clean linen. Anyone who has stayed in Bali knows they have real trouble getting with linen white without stains.
Well appointed resort and a great pool.
The best hawkers we have come across on the beach. Really lovely people who do not hassle you to buy or have a massage at every opportunity.
Bad: Not enough day beds around the pool, so stopped people having day beds in the shaded huts.
Away from the main road at Kuta, so they try and rip you off with transport. generally charge double the real rate for the trip.
Only 6 tables outside for breakfast. Many people like to eat outdoors in Bali.
They want to charge you 50% of the room rate for a late checkout regardless of how much you have spent in the resort. We know they have rooms spare, but always looking to rip you off.
Booked in February, but still couldn't get connecting rooms.

Poor first impression as it took over 1 hour delay on checking in. The hotel is moderate not 5* just about 4* . No confortable chairs in room just large bed . Next to airport a bit away from Kuta centre.
Overall food and facilities quite good> Apart from reception the staff were very friendly.
Beware of hotel tours as driver never stopped telling me he was poor, asking for money
On checking out no flexibilty had to be out of room by 12pm and noticed mini bar charges and telephone calls added to bill which I had not incurred

We had a family of 4 including 2 kids 5 & 9.
All I will suggest is that you read all the reviews & take in the positives & dismiss the neagatives. This place was amazing & any issues we had were so minor I cannot remember them.
The pool was great for the kids, breakfast was plentiful & fresh, the staff were fantastic & clearly proud to be working at the hotel.
Great restaurants & massages are only 10 minutes walk away along with some friendly peddlers who will get you what ever you need, with no need to leave the beach at the front of the hotel if you wish.
Watching the odd plane land & take off was part of the charm as you could hardly hear them at all, occasionally during the day but never at night. In fact it was a highlight for the kids.
This hotel was a pure Bali experience & we are heading back for 16 nights next May, none of us can wait.
The best bit is it is not run by Australians!

I hae been to Bali many times and have stayed at various hotels and The Patra is by far the best. This would be the 4th time i have stayed here and i enjoy myself more each time.

The Patra is right next to the airport, but i could honestly not hear the planes landing/taking off. It is set in beautiful gardens that always have gardeners tending to it. There are 3 pools. One big one, with a swim up bar and plent of sunbeds, and two smaller pools which were adults would be able to have a relaxing time.

The hotel is just outside of the hussle and bussle of Kuta. It is only a 15 minute walk along the beach or a short taxi ride to the centre of Kuta.

The staff are so friendly, and are happy to help with anything you desire. No matter what time of day or night, they will always give you a friendly greeting if you pass them. The breakfast is great, having everything you want ranging from pancakes to spicy indonesian dished. It has something for all cultures.

We once again loved our stay at the Patra and will be staying here again in January.

We stayed 10 nights at the Patra and we all loved it. My husband and I have been the previous May with friends and decided to take the kids this year.
The staff were helpful and the restaurant staff were extremely polite, Thankyou, was always replied with "You are welcome"! The breakfast was great.
Our room always had bottled water replaced and loved the frangapani flowers placed on the bed when made, it was a lovely finishing touch.
It was a nice walk in the evening down a newly made path to discovery mall, there are also various restaurnts on the way to eat at and watch the sun set.
My children only went twice to the kids club but was a good place for a bit of a rest and watch a bit of telly, the girls all seemed lovely and felt comforable there to leave my girls, as shopping did not interest them!
A few more sun lounges by the main pool would be good as people would put their towels on the lounges and go away, and it would be hard to find a lounge by 10 in the morning.
Although the Patra is close to the airport we barely noticed the noise, the grounds are amazingly kept and the pools seem clean and all have nice views over the ocean.
We had a club suite which gave us a king size bed and the kids shared a fold out lounge. We thought there was plenty of room for all of us, and having two balconys was good.
It was nice that we had Kuta just a walk away or a small taxi fee, but was still out of it a bit to get away from the hussell and bussell.
It was sad to come home to all the rain, we all had a great time and would recomend this hotel.
