“Not too bad”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 April 2014

It was our first trip to Bali and my mother booked the room for myself & my girlfriend.
The first thing I noticed in the room was the smell of mould, you do get used to it, but at first its very strong.
The size of the room is quite big for what you're paying for. We were room 103.
They offer a free breakfast, but its very small and after a few days of it you might as well go and get breakfast elsewhere.
We loved the pool, it's not big, but its peaceful and you often find you're the only ones in or around it. You can sit on a bar stool in the pool and use your phone/laptop/iPad and they even have power points near by.
The wifi however is SHOCKING. I had to send some photos to clients while there and it took more than an hour to send 4 photos of around 5mb, I ended up heading to a bar with wifi.
The service was great most of the time, however we were told the day before checkout that we had a phone call which was weird as no one knew we were staying there. It was from someone at a hotel saying that we "won a 7 night stay at their new hotel" a car would pick us up and we can pick up our prize at their grand opening. It turns out to be a scam and its a hotel trying to sell you a time-share. Someone at Fat Yogi is giving away your details, inc. passport details to this time-share, they only way they would have got our details is through our booking. It also happened to 1 other person there when he & his wife stayed there together last year.
The resort is located in a very busy area, but that means lots of places to eat & drink. Secret Garden is a great bar across the road. Because of its location you'll find most taxis do not want to come to the resort, so pay the extra for the driver.
I would stay there again, I've pointed out a few cons, but there are a lot of pro's which have already been pointed out. For $29 to $39 a night you will enjoy it and you're in Bali, so you're only in your rooms for a bit anyway.

Room Tip: Theres a good money exchanger across the road Secret Garden is a great aussie bar Do not take up t...

In Deluxe room, it was not really clean (for example toilet) and what surprised me really much was unfriendly staff they had. We were travelling on the low season, but they didn't were ready to help us at all. They had some problems with their paying machine and the only solutions was that I went to ATM and brought them cash money.. they said that MAYBE they will call to the bank day after that. The location is good, but I am wondering if they have newer rooms as well, although this was supposed to be their Deluxe. Not worth of your money.

Its disappointing to read poor reviews on Fat Yogi but you do get what you pay for. The difference between a Standard and a Deluxe room is about $10/night. The absolute polar reviews about this hotel are purely over $10.....spend the extra money and you will be left wondering why they charge so little (USD29) for a Deluxe Room!

Yes, the Standard rooms are in need of refurbishment and from what I can see, this is an ongoing process. It seems people's expectations for paying around USD21 in the heart of Kuta may not be entirely realistic.

As for the restaurant mentioned in one review, it is a completely separate business to the hotel. If the person had taken the time to check out the food, the portion sizes are HUGE and food quality second to none. Whilst prices are not the same as a Warung, they are certainly very realistic by Bali standards.

As for feeling safe.....there are staff available 24 / 7, including Security staff at night.

The reason for my post? To try to make some sense of the polar opposite reviews of Fat Yogi.

Would I personally stay in a Standard room?....No

Do I consider their Deluxe rooms incredible value for money and of an excellent standard....without a doubt!

At the end of the day, nobody is professing this to be a 5 star hotel.....nor are they charging anywhere near 5 star prices.

The bottom line......book a Deluxe (or at least a Superior) room. You won't be disappointed.

Room Tip: Book a Deluxe room.....they are streets ahead of the Standard rooms for an extra $10

The location and price of this place is great, In the middle of the Kuta craziness and opposite a really good pub/restaurant. We booked there cheapest room for 1 night and only stayed there for 10 hrs before our flights, lucky as there was no way I was going to lay on the 100 year old thin foam mattress. I have to say I don't think any human could actually stay in the room we had it smelt that bad of mould. They do have newer rooms that are a lot better but there budget rooms, your better off hiring a car and sleeping in it.

We went there on the recommendation of a friend , first time to Bali and wouldn't stay there again the pool was nice and the bed was comfortable but that's about it , the bathroom was old and delapitated the room smelt mouldy. The restaurant was over priced so we didn't even try the food, they charged the equiverlent of $34 a night. Right across the road is a joint called secret garden inn it's much nicer and it's only $30 a night with breakfast

i have been to bali twice and on both times i stayed at fat yogi's. On our second stay, we even bought a fat smiling buddha on our way back so the ambience of this place stays with us, its now sitting at the end of our hallway.

for the price of less than 40USD, you get a good size bed, nice pool, simple breakfast, chill relaxed villa environment. its so simple yet so good, staff were nice and didnt try to trick us into any tour or package. In fact, we had a bit of misunderstanding with the package and they returned all of the money to us, with a sorry letter for all the trouobles, it was very nice and sincere and i would return just for that act alone, as sometimes it is hard to get this kind of service in Bali.

The hotel have lockers and security cameras everywhere so you feel secure. The location is in the heart of poppies lane. The rooms are old and the bathrooms are not that great but i rate it as excellent as there is nowhere else in bali i would stay. Even my husband who is very picky really loved the place.

I guess whats an added bonus is that below it is the Havana club which serves the best food, and they also offer salsa lessons for free

Room Tip: i would get the villas next time i go there

Stayed here before Xmas 2013, had a lovely quiet room, nice new TV, Fridge, The pool was great and so nice with not many people around, the location of this place is great, right next to the Havana Bar, so music can be a little loud, but we didnt mind at all, breakfast was nice as well, rooms are a little dated but we didnt mind and paid 300,000 a night, would definitely stay again.

Room Tip: Great place in Poppies one close to everything
