Hi all,
I choose the Oasis for it's position mainly and because from pics it looked a bit "balinese style".
Well, I should say that the swimming pool area is very nice, with this very very long pool.
The position is indeed quite comfortable since it's near to many excellent restaurants and at short distance from Kuta Square and other shopping areas in Kuta (including Matahari).
I guess that's all the positive I found.
Travelling alone, the quotation was 70 USD per night (staying 22 nights!) + 3,25% surcharge for credit card payments. They also quoted the pickup at the airport (15 mins drive...) at 175k IDR (roughly 17 USD), when avg price is 60k IDR. They also wanted the whole amount paid in advance (which fortunately I didn't agree to pay. I never do, and in this case I hadn't seen the hotel before!).
The staff is well educated, but very far from Balinese standard: it seems they don't care much about you, few smiles, ...
The room: here's the mst important point to me. It was clean. But the bathroom is something really old and bad conceived, poor materials and with no air circulation. So humidity was always high. This is even worse when, out of 2 large towels (they do not provide mid or small size towels. Just 2 large) 1 was always smelling of humidity. I do not know the way the clean and dry robes, but everyday one of the 2 was smelling.
The room is at swimming pool floor and it was totally dark at any time of the day (I guess that at 1st floor the situation is better). But most of swimming pool area is in this condition all day long. So you cannot have suntan there (I do not care 'cos I usually go to beach or to Ocean 27).
Your window to the pool is nice, with a couple of couches in concrete with pillow at the sides. No chairs outside and no chance to dry your swimsuit or shorts anywhere....
Aircon was always noisy and the minibar has never been refilled.
In the end I believe it's a good base to stay out all day and night if you do not care much about comfort except for location which is very good (I forgot the entrance from street: before you reach the lobby it's very sad and a bit dirty... Ah, also wifi...the only area where you can connect is the bar/restaurant!).
But for 70 $ (price for 22 days) it's certainly not a bargain!
Enjoy Bali!
Kisses
PS: after the first, prepaid week I moved right in front. The Royal 18, restryled in Feb 2012. It's nothing Balinese. But it's brand new! Rooms are perfect, very well furinshed (wifi, DVD, satellite, hairdryer, aircon, minibar, ...), nice materials, perfectly clear, staff is lovely, available and very Balinese (smiling, caring, friendly.... Ask of Wawan if you can, but most of them is very helping) and I spent less than 55 USD per night having a suite (last floor, quite large...).
Ah...I paid hotel transfer to airport 90k IDR (almost half the Oasis) and didn't have to bargain
