We recently spent 2 nights at the Karthi hotel. We were immediately put off by the cramped and messy entry area - it's a mess partly due to some new space they are building. There are a bunch of tables crammed in, and you have to walk along the edge of the pool to get to rooms on the right side (the pool takes up the entire atrium!) The people at the front desk were nice and patient, they put up with us as we tried to sort out whether we had prepaid the room or not (we were wrong, not them). The rooms are adequate but dim, shabby, and absolutely permeated with the stink of mothballs. We had to collect them and put them outside - we counted at least 20 of the !@$ things. The included breakfast was fine, we didn't eat any other meals there.
This is the only place we stayed in Kuta, so I can't really judge the value for money; however, we paid much less for much nicer places in Ubud, Munduk, and Lovina.

Room Tip: Get the higher-priced room if you care about space. And don't accept a room on an upper floor i...

There were 7 of us and we stayed a month at the Karthi and were very impressed with the place.Clean rooms,VERY comfortable beds and pillows, fabulous restaurant and excellent helpful friendly staff.Hendry is the Manager and nothing was too much trouble.Hire car and driver was cheap,as well as being good safe drivers. The position is excellent. It backs onto the beach, the Art markets are next door,Matahari is a five minute walk, opposite are several restaurants, none of which we found could compete with the hotel for food or price.Next door on both sides as well as opposite are small supermarkets for your water, drinks and toiletries. As an example on prices,we went to the sportsmans bar,had a bintang and a sprite,66,000 rps.At the hotel, same thing,25,000 rps!
At the moment the hotel is undergoing renovations to the front of the hotel dining area, which should be finished by September, but the noise is little, unlike next door at the Melasti where the noise made us cut short our dinner to escape it!We enjoyed it so much we booked with Hendry for the same time next year.

Room Tip: Standard rooms do not have a fridge or wardrobe, they are very basic, but the deluxe twin and doubles...

Unfortunately my boyfriend and I had to stay here in 2011 for a couple of nights while flights were sorted out. The place is noisy and therefore we endured a lack of sleep due to traffic sound, street lights and a hard bed which had a huge dip in the middle.

The hotel is old. Very old. The bathrooms are moldy on the floor and on the ceiling and the fan in the bathroom rattled. The TV is tiny, but considering the room is just over the size of a phone booth, appropriate. There are no elevators and three storeys of stairs.

The staff were pleasant and the restaurant there is CHEAP. It is a great location, near to everything in down town Kuta (discovery mall, water bom park, the beach, Ramayana sports bar, circle K, bungee sling) but the noise outside when youre trying to sleep is not worth the convenience.

In upper Kuta, more towards Legian, there are much better small hotels that are clean and tidy without so much noise for the same price (around $30AUD p/night).

Try to avoid here if you can.

the room is pretty fair and clean, but the smell is stink. Bad service,The staff not friendly, the room is difficult to open, I guess the keyroom isn't compatible with the door.. That makes the key easily be broken. And they will charge you with something that isn't our fault. It's like I've been tricked.
The food is quite well, and the good thing about this hotel, it's near the shopping centre and cafe, good location.

Having read some of the other reviews I was a little apprehensive over staying at this hotel. Upon arrival we were put into a stansard room (although having paid a deposit on a super deluxe). This was very small and lacking in amenities. Next day the manager rectified the problem, we were moved to our original order. The room was larger and had more facilities. Included breakfast was adequate, if a little lacking in variety. This hotel appears to be aimed at the Japanese. We fed many times during our stay, the only disappointment being the steak. The menu was also fairly limited. Bintang beer was some of the cheapest in town. We stayed for thirteen nights, slept very well. TV stations were somewhat thin for our tastes. I had a problem, losing my heart tablets and was unable to replace them in Kuta, the manager went out of his way to find some replacements for which I was extremely grateful. Overall we got what we paid for. This is an adequate hotel in the very centre of Kuta with friendly staff and all your basics covered.

Room Tip: For couples, request a super deluxe room

I stayed for 3 nights in this hotel. The location is excellent. Located near Kuta beach (5 min walk). 24h convenient store (Circle K) is just in front of the hotel. If you prefer international restaurant, you can find many of them. Discovery shopping mall, Sogo department store can be reached in 5 min walking.

The room is terrible. I would say it is a hostel instead a hotel. No blanket provided. Poor toilette. You can find a ton of limescale in the shower. The provided towels must have been used and washed more than thousands times since it is not white and bright anymore but rather a bit yellow. The bed-linen has the same story as the towels.

I would not leave my stuff in the room, since the lock is also poor.

The hotel staffs were relative friendly (except the one who responsible for breakfast).
Breakfast was OK (acceptable) with friend rice and cauliflower.

Summary: If you are a very low budget traveler, or student looking for some adventure in Kuta area, then go for this hotel. Since what you need is only bed and breakfast. Otherwise, if you travel with family or partner , stay away from this hotel.
