We had just visited Bali and we had lost counts of the number of times we had been to bali. We still love this Island of Gods even though we get disppointed at some of the hotel standards there. We love Bali so much that we feel that it is imperative that we share all the feedbacks we had so that hotel and service operators can improve. We also feel that there is a need to have more training for the service industry in Bali. Most tourism schools teach them what to do but none will tell them what not to do. The best people to train them are the customers!
Here are the feedbacks.
Over the years, we stayed at various types of accomodations. The reasons are usually cleanliness, service, location, price, duration, convenience,etc. With each visit, we try different properties. With each type(star) we will pitch our expectations in accrdance to the price we pay for that hotel.
We pick Mastapa Garden as we are only staying there overnight due to a late flight in and out of Bali. We do not feel that we need to spend USD $80 to $150 just to stay in a room from midnight to 6am.We booked through Wotif and laterooms. Wotif charges USD$42nett (standard room)and Laterooms about USD$35nett(double)
The price difference depending on time of booking and availability, of course!
For this rate, our expectations are basic services.

Room here is large. However, maintanence is poor.
The room is so old that it certainly looks like it needs a new coat of paint.
The toilet is very old and shower does not work very well.It is worse than a hotel in the remote village in China.This is tourist infested BALI we are referring to. Surely the operators can afford better room at USD $42nett
The sofa were so old and dirty and we were afraid to even sit on them, worrying about dustmites.The dark coloured sofa covers do not help either.;(
The location seems ideal at first cos there were shops on both sides of the street infront but in the evening...we regretted. It was so noisy. We had a room facing the road and it was unbearable.
The check in service needs some live and ungrade. We did not receive any greetings at all, no welcome and no one even bother to look at you and greet???Only people that were interested are the transport drivers.;0
We know we paid only $42nett for the room, but come on, what happen to Basic Service?
Breakfast was American set and miserable as well. We do not expect a big spread of breakfast but I am sure the operator can provide a better spread, fresh breads and better quality food as it is inexpensive in Bali. We were wondering what is the GOP of this hotel? The way they prepare the toast and eggs was really a disappointment. We always knew, we do not need expensive food to make the guest happy. Only food created with passion will do wonders!;)
The reason we decided to pen this review is we feel that Mastapa Garden owners need to wake up and rethink their business strategy. Before we stayed there, we have read reviews and the reviews are usually negative. However, we wanted to see for ourselves, why operators continue to do what customers dislike?
We will not stay there anymore if the hotel continue to ignore guest reviews.
We need hotel operators to listen to guest comments. You may not always need to do everything the guests want but the BASICS must be there.
For this price, we are very sure we can get better quality stay in Bali.
For operators, do make an effort to listen to your guests. One good comment will lead to more people trying your property. With negative comments, you should improve so that you will also see more people visiting your properties.
Last but not least, train the staff not just on process and product, train them on handling guests better. Every guest has different needs, personalise the service and you will be doing better than what you are capable of!
We will still visit Bali.
