Kuta Lagoon Resort & Pool Villa
Ranked #66 of 252 Hotels in Kuta
Reviewed 28 July 2011

This hotel was the second of 3 hotels on our 3 week holiday to Bali. This hotel came highly recommended by a friend... The hotel in itself is 'nice' . The pool access rooms are a fantastic idea and a lovely way to access the pool. The rooms were clean but the beds were not very comfortable. The staff were amazing, very friendly and helpful. The breakfast however which was included in the hotel stay was terrible! We ate there 2 mornings of our 7 day stay and regretted it each time. The restaurant has the feeling of a cattle yard where you are herded in to graze on some nondescript, tasteless fare (that has a good chance of making you ill). It is a quiet hotel being set back off of the road but beware when you step out onto the road to be haggled, jostled, poked and pinched. I have travelled to Bali a few times now but this was the first stay in Kuta and NEVER AGAIN! This hotel was the most expensive of the 3 we stayed at and was no where near the quality of the other 2 (Ubud Village Hotel in Ubud and Besakih Beach Hotel in Sanur... see reviews for them). If going to Bali and only staying in Kuta is what you are after then I guess this hotel would be fine but Bali has so much more to offer and far better places to stay.

Room Tip: If you stay here go for the pool access room.

I when to Bali wit my family, hotel location is near to the kuta shopping district, easy accessible, near to spa,. But the entrance of the hotel is not from the main road, u got to get into a small alley to get there. However the hotel view is so good... there a several type of hotel room, room wit private pool, room in front of pool and regular room... just choose which one suite u... Affordable.. nice stay....

We stayed there with a friend in April and liked the place a lot. The staff is great – they greet you and treat you as a king! When we arrived we found out that our room was upgraded to a private villa – huge room with even bigger bathroom. Ok, it could be a bit more lights in the room as it was pretty dark but in general it has everything you need. Beds are huge, mattresses very comfortable. Air conditioning – easy to control and works great.

We ordered room service on the first night we arrived and got fresh meals at 4 am for the very good price. Breakfast offers a good variety of choices but we found it being a bit heavy. Would liked to see more fresh fruits as only watermelons and melons were offered and the pastries – they came from the plastic bag and tasted a bit “plastic” as well. That probably the only one let down. As someone mentioned before egg station is great! Really loved omelettes there.

Location is good – takes about 15-20 mins to walk to Kuta. Of course if you don’t get too distracted by all the street vendors.

We loved our stay here and definitely coming back!

I was really disappointed in my stay at Kuta Lagoon. While the staff are a delight the hotel is just.. a let down. The position is convenient BUT turning left the corner of Melasti and legion is major Javanese selling hasslers. They are rude and so disrespectful....so awful it put me in a really anxious state. This made me feel trapped.
The food at the resort was disapointing and the ambience just was not there. I did not feel poolside was at all relaxing .....
beds uncomfortable, pillows lumby. towles very worn
They could not help us with confirming flights, and did not show great organisation for example when I went to pay final bill they did print an account, i asked and then no dockets attached (for meals). then After we payed and hopping into cab for airport they asked about ..pool towles, DVD player thing they should have had on their check list .. no feed back sheet on accomadation...

This resort is fantastic value for money, the rooms are tidy and the amenities are sufficient for a comfortable stay, the grounds are immaculately kept and the staff are so happy. The breakfast is amazing and varies slightly every day, I don’t know what anyone complains about, I have worked in 5* hotels with less of a range. The pool was never murky, always clean and nice place to cool off. Age range early 20s to late 30s. Some people forget that this is only a 3* hotel for less than $100 p/n and more than lives up to that rating, if you want 5* pay the $200 - $300 p/n and get 5*.

About a 10 - 15 minute walk to the beach and/or clubs, loads of resturants and bars along the way. If you want the beach or clubs nearby do your homework and stay closer to the two. Or just catch a ‘blue bird’ metered taxi and pay the $2 - 3 to ride down to the beach.

Food prices are cheap and the food was really good, drinks are slightly higher priced especially in the pool bar but only works out to be roughly an extra $1 each, if you want to live a bit cheaply just buy some beers from the circle K around the corner and drink those, they do have a corkage charge of 50k but never policed it while we were there.

As for the street sellers, people forget they are just trying to make a dollar, if you don’t want to buy anything just say no and keep walking. If you don’t like them hassling you then you probably picked the wrong city to base your holiday. A good place to shop is at Ketut’s shop, walk down Jl Melasti towards the beach to the minimart, turn right and then your first left, everything is at a set price and no more expensive than what you would pay on the street for single items.

Only flaws were the floors in the rooms were sometimes dusty, the tiles are slippery if wet and you’re running and the spa was overpriced but all in all this place is amazing and would recommend it to anyone.

Room Tip: Pool access for the ease, Deluxe pool view for a bit of privacy.

Stayed at a deluxe type room overlooking the staff car park for 4 nights. The staff were very friendly and went out of their way to ensure u enjoyed your stay with them. The lagoon water was rather murky but clear of debris. Breakfast was also ok but a bit tiring after the 2nd night. The reception area could have more comfy furniture instead of the wooden type of chairs.

Overall, realiable and ok value

After staying with family for the past 10 times at the 3 star Griya Santrian in Sanur I did not know what to expect at Kuta Lagoon. It was my first time traveling with friends to bali and being young we were eager to check out the nightlife so we chose to stay in Kuta somewhat close to the clubs and bars which was somewhat affordable. Could not fault the service; the people were lovely and always smiling as I expected from my previous experiences in Bali.

The hotel is situated on the border of Kuta and Legian on the main strip. It is about a good Kilometre away from the main clubs and bars. I was really disappointed that it was so far from the beach when previously the other hotel was right on the beach. It is also very quiet and a small hotel. My brother and his family were staying at the dynasty which is 5 star, large hotel, on the beach, awesome rooms, and definitely worth the extra money every night if ur looking for a bit more luxurious holiday with family. It seemed so much more homely and not as isolated as Kuta Lagoon is.

The room we stayed was a deluxe room that was upstairs with a balcony looking over the pool and did the job as far as what we were there for. As a guy that loves his luxury, it didn't do much at all for me; I am really tall (6 ft 7) and the place seems like it was built for people under average height...I was unable to get a good night sleep in the bed, I was too tall for the shower and the bathroom was really small, not to mention the fridge was really small and the room in general was a little bit dirty.

What I liked about Kuta Lagoon is that the service was pretty good. What I disliked about the place was that it was small, the tiles are slippery and pool could to with a bit of a clean up. Also be careful of the Javanese muslims trying to rip you off outside. Try and stay away from them as they can get aggressive, kick u, and swear at you in Indonesian if you dont buy. Never promise anything.

To sum up, the place is perfect if your just looking for a place to sleep and shower every night if your going out all day. If your looking for luxury and quiet try Sanur, if your looking for luxury and busy try South Kuta. If your looking for luxury quiet but expensive try Nusa Dua. Legian is also nice if you go the higher star resorts as well as seminyak however the beaches in Seminyak are black.

Room Tip: Try to get a pool access room.
