Had lovely time

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 4 Dec 2012
My husband and I stayed at Kuta Lagoon Resort at the end of November 2012. We were impressed by the cleanliness and standard of the hotel. The buffet breakfasts were varied and well presented, the staff were friendly and attentive. We stayed in a pool access room which was fantastic, the pool was sparkling clean and the layout meant relative privacy, the pool bar was an added bonus. The room service menu was nothing fantastic, but was nice not to have to go out if we felt like staying on our balcony and enjoying the pool at our feet. Can recommend the club sandwich for a cheap filling lunch by the pool. The tapas menu offered by the pool bar was actually tastier and better value than most things on the room service menu and unfortunately we only discovered this on the last day lol.
The only complaint about this hotel - the in-house spa. VERY BADLY RUN. Upon check in, we received a 10 minute massage voucher each - this was reluctantly and very sulkily given by two staff who weren't interested. I booked a three hour spa treatment two days later - it was awful. The "foot ritual" consisted of being told to put my foot in a tin bowl of water while the staff member left me for ten minutes then came back and asked "relaxed, ma'am?". The massage was rough, the staff member obviously inexperienced at massage and lasted barely half an hour, during which the staff member left four times to answer the phone. The "body scrub" consisted of salt solution being painted on one half of my body, then left to dry for half an hour while the staff chatted noisily in the next room while I was bored out of my mind in a brightly lit room with not even any ambient music playing. Eventually I was shown to a herbal bath in a courtyard that had a neighbouring building site - the noise of hammering and drills put paid to any thought of quiet reflection.
I showered outside and showed myself out....three quarters of an hour before the "3 hour treatment" should have been up. I voiced my displeasure to the staff at the lack of attention and time wasting, but it was entirely pointless as they had no grasp of English. Apparently.
We complained at reception about the spa rip off, but they asked me to come back in the morning and complain to the manager with a written explanation. I couldn't be bothered to go through a third recitation of how terrible the spa was so instead just gave my patronage to the spas in town outside the hotel.
I can heartily recommend Anggun spa five minutes away, which is next to Mama's German restaurant, as their spa service is far superior and approximately a sixth the price. Sheppy's bar and restaurant which is a five minute walk away also offers better food and cocktails at half the price than the hotel.
The mismanagement of the in-house spa at Kuta Lagoon Resort is the only thing spoiling it's reputation and the only thing that spoilt our holiday.

Room Tip: We chose a pool access room, which was reasonably quiet. The pool hours are 8am to 10am so there...

This was the second time we have stayed here in the one year we loved it so much! Awesome, relaxing pool with heaps of space so even when it's busy you can feel like you have your own little section of it! There's a swim up bar with plenty of cocktails to choose from too! The rooms are comfortable with great bedding - heavenly when you've come from dirty sheets in India! The towels do have a weird smell about them I couldn't quite get past, however it didn't bother my boyfriend so maybe it's just me?? The staff, as they always are, we're adorable & extremely helpful. The location is great if you want to be a little further away from the clubs in Kuta, however it's only a short walk in if you do want to party. Plenty of affordable and yummy restaurants to choose from close by. Overall a great place to stay & I'm sure ill be back in the future!

We were recommended this hotel by Rachael & Katie at Flightcentre Kelmscott. This was our first stay at the Kuta Lagoon Resort and it certainly won't be our last. We arrived home on Tuesday and I've just got Rachael to book us again for August. We had a private pool villa which was awesome. The breakfasts were great and each day there was different dishes being served at the buffett. Breakfast ran from 7am - 10.30am, great for early or late risers and there was always plenty available no matter what time you arrived. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. The Hotel itself is lovely with its long lagoon style pool running past the many "access" rooms. I would highly recommend this hotel for its friendlieness, cleanliness and location.

Room tip: For a couples romantic getaway I recommend the private pool villa or for a fun getaway request a "pool access room" In the pool access room your balcony has stairs directly into the long lagoon style pool.

So glad I booked after reading reviews from this site and watched closely as time til holiday. My son 13 and I needed some R&R and we got it here. Staff were friendly and very helpful. Breakfast was delicious and there's always something nice, thoroughly enjoyed and jag loved having his eggs cooked just that special way. Meet up with some lovely aussies over there and some loud, painful young lads and minders celebrating end of year trip. Staff put a stop to the rules begin broken by them and loud/swearing drunken behaviour as well. Next day the same, staff came around and then they quiten again. 3am coming home was painful. Staff got on top of it again. This happens all over, but staff were in control. Our room was located just opposite pool bar, when loud we would venture down over end, quite and relaxing. Dont get me wrong I think everyone is entiled to party, it dosent seem that kind of hotel. We enjoyed our time here, our rooms were spotless cleaned every morning, thankyou and our pool was cleaned and refreshing thanks Martin. We enjoyed happy hour daliy with tapas, it was excellent. Of a nite we would venture to Um's in poppys land, garlic bread and chicken maryland(not what u think) best, ours for lunch and uncle normans but go to mozerella's for the creme brulee near garlic lane. Shopping without the bartering is Ketu in garlic lane, bargins, bargins, dont forget to end the evenings with a visit to Carla's Spa for a well earnt foot massage, enjoy your in bali not gold coast, relax and go with flow. We will be back next year and looking forward to our pool access or we might just upgrade to private pool villa, awesome time thankyou Kuta Lagoon, Suk sa ma ...So sorry to hear about novangely , we had none of that. Hopefully they have learnt something from your experience. There is a store called CareFour its like our Kmart/Big W plus it has food, pick up your cheese and bisc. lollies etc even beer and pastries. We were lucky enough to meet aussies women that knew alot about bali and guide us on our journey, thanks girls. See you next yr. jen and jag

Room tip: Pool access room a must the pool is a feature even thought it can be loud, swim down the other end. If you have children buy floatation from outside and let everyone enjoy. If you want romantic and quiet time go private villa away from the bar area.

My husband and I first time in Bali. This place was fantastic, if you want a place with a pool right on your doorstep, spend a bit more and get a villa or if you want a private pool go for the private villas. The breakfast buffet was good, they try to cater for all nationalities. The young staff are extremely friendly and welcoming. Have time to talk to them, they are very interesting people and humble. The resort was the perfect location, just on the outskirts of Kuta, but everything is so close, markets, restaurants and drinking spots. If you want a family stay this is perfect. Highly recommend the Jokers Cafe, approx 10 mins walk, coldest Bintang in Kuta and they have apple cider. We would stay here again, very clean and everything worked.Handy internet room and cheap drinks and beer at the little shop at the front of the resort eg 2 bottles of water, 2 cans of coke, 2 bintangs $5.00 Aus. or 50,000 rup. Money changer at the resort located at the tour desk changed one australian dollar to 9500 rup and you wont get ripped off, better rates outside but be very careful. The resort restaurant had great pizzas, not over the top.

Room tip: Villa without the private pool are only a few steps away from the pool and are nice big rooms.
