“Friendly Balinese hotel in a great position in Kuta”
Reviewed 6 June 2014

We stayed here last week for about the 10th time. We don't really like Kuta all that much mainly because of the traffic but we had some business to do there and the Satriya is well located and they have some great long term staff there who always make you feel welcome.

They were undergoing renovations so there were less guests than usual which was nice because last year it seemed a bit crowded and noisy. We always try to get one of the rooms on the ground floor, left side as you walk in from the front---close to the pool and gardens. The Balinese gardens here are fantastic and they often have weddings here, and it kind of sets the place off given the chaos of Kuta that lies outside the front gate.

Our room was very nice, clean with a lovely Balinese bathroom. One of the delights was the room guys are more like artists (or some of them are) and every day when you return back to your room they created the most amazing towel creatures on the bed we have ever seen. One was a crocodile. Another day they made two monkeys and the grand finale was a huge river carp which took all the towels and hand washers to make up. They use the flower petals in the garden to make the eyes. For the crocodile they put the TV remote in it's mouth (propping it open) to show that it was indeed a crocus mouth. You really can't believe it unless you see it and I wish I could figure out a way to get the phone photos onto this review.
The restaurant attached to the front has evolved years ago from having very ordinary food to quite good food now. The Tom Yam soup with seafood is really good but watch those green beans they are super hot chillies that will make you cry. The only complaint I had was that the band was too loud for us so when we ate there we ate near the pool instead where we could still hear the band (the music was pretty good it's just we don't like rock music when we're eating).

Room Tip: Try to get the new ground floor rooms near the swimming pool

I've stayed here around 6 times now but this is the first time I've reviewed Satriya.

Perfectly positioned close to the beach on Poppies 2 this hotel is a home away from home for me. Excellent service, impeccable cleanliness, wide choice of buffet food on offer for breakfast and they make a mean omlette. Short stroll to Kuta beach and the stalls selling the usual tatt on Poppies 2.

Despite the location nestled between the busy thoroughfares of Poppies 1 and 2 the hotel is extremely quiet.

2 pools, one large one with an in pool bar and a smaller one in the new section at the rear. Getting hold of a towel can be troublesome as they tend to go pretty quick.

Tours to the various locations around Bali can be organised at the front of the hotel in the parking area. Invariably plenty of English speaking drivers hovering around there in the mornings and the prices for the trips are extremely fair.

If it's raining brollies are available at reception.

For the security conscious to the utterly paranoid there are safety deposit boxes (the two key variety) for those who want one and there are also in-room safes.

Some terrific eateries behind the hotel up Jalan Sorga and beyond serving truly affordable traditional food. If you're really pushed on a budget Warung Indonesia on Jalan Rontha will rustle up Nasi Goreng for around $2.

Will I stay again? Absolutely.

Room Tip: All rooms are good, couldn't fault any of them although I prefer to stay in the new rooms at the...

My wife and I stayed here and we were pleasantly pleased with our stay. The room was comfortable and the staff was extremely helpful.

The pool was well kept though the guests towels seemed to not keep up with the demand. We ended up just taking our towels back to the room with us to use the next day.

It's well hidden and a great value!

Fabulous hotel in the heart of Kuta. We stayed in the back section and absolutely loved it, pool a metre from our door, friendly staff, amazing towel oragami, 2 mins from beach. I have stayed in Sanur the last few years as I was a little over Kuta but Satriya has brought me back. I have booked for Jan 2015 and will be staying in the front section this time in the newly renovated superior rooms which were under construction when we were there 2 weeks ago.

My wife and I stayed in this well appointed hotel hidden amongst well maintained tropical gardens. The whole staff were very friendly and helpfull, nothing was too much trouble. The hotel is located off Poppies Lane 2 but there was no street noise from our room. We will definitely be staying at Satriya Cottages on our next trip to Bali.

Room Tip: No lifts in the older section so ask for a ground floor if your are old and not fit.

I stayed here after 2 strong recommendations and was not disappointed.

From the moment I arrived I felt like royalty by the way I was treated. The staff here are better than I have ever seen or received. Nothing was ever too much trouble. A big shout out to Wayan and Brad.

The grounds are exquisite and amenities perfect. Pool and swim up bar are great - plenty of room to make friends or keep to yourself.

Restaurant / bar on premises is clean, cheap and super friendly, helped by live music every night. Chef Wayan runs a great kitchen and all the staff are fantastic - big thumbs up to Made and Kedek. Great variety at breakfast also.

A choice of new and old type of accommation - I prefer the old!

Thank you for making my stay such a memorable occasion !

We have been to Bali eleven times staying at Kuta, Legian, Seminyak, Tuban, Sanur, Nusa Lembongan, Nusa Dua and Ubud, We have enjoyed every one of those stays, but never as much as this last stay at Satriya. Just 100 metres from Kuta beach in Poppies 2 and rear access to Poppies 1, Satriya is a quiet tropical haven handy to everything. Beautiful gardens, a fantastic deep pool that doesn't get too warm and a great restaurant with live entertainment most nights (always finishes by 10pm so not intrusive). The breakfast has a good variety of choices and everything is spotlessly clean. Every morning we would be keen to see what the cleaners had left on our bed, making a variety of animals from the towels and surrounding them with flowers. The staff were out of this world. We have always been impressed with the friendliness of the Balinese on every trip, but these guys were super great. Sadly, the owner's mother passed away while we were there and the cremation ceremony was one of the biggest in Kuta, however we were invited to join the ceremony. It was a life-changing experience to walk in the procession from the bombing memorial to the beach, dressed in Balinese attire. It was a great honour. Thanks Yan and all the staff for making this the best and most memorable holiday ever.
