Place is awesome and serene and really cosy and nice place to stay for honeymooners . Little far off from the main city but still a place to be at if you want a perfect setting for your stay surroundings

Stayed at the Melia Beach Resort Nusa Dua for 7 nights from 29/11/13 until 30/11/13. Travelled with wife and two adult children, staying in two separate rooms.
Wanted a resort style holiday of complete relaxation, with choice of dining and option of activities.

Check-in was fine with no issues. Upgraded to Junior suite as room not ready.
Both rooms were clean and well maintained. Bathrooms were fine ,very clean, well maintained and functional.
Problem with "dank' smell from air-conditoner, identified by domestic staff and fixed within the day by maintenance, without any comment or complaint by us.

Breakfast buffet at he Il Patio Restaraunt was well presented ,varied and plentiful.
Choice of five restaraunts, namely Il Patio (general) Sorrento (Italian) Sakura (Japanese) Beachside café (general) and Asian (closed)
Over the week we dined at all, except the Japanese.
Food was above average quality on most occasions. Food at Sorrento was particularly memorable. Servce/wait staff well trained, attentive, obliging and so charming and engaging.

Pricing in the restaraunts similar to dining in Western Australia.
At time of our stay, Resort was offering a 20% discount on Restaurant dining, as a means of encouraging guests to eat within the resort.
(beware that sales tax and service fee are added to the prices quoted on menus)

The lush/green/tropical grounds of the resort are extensive and a delight, especially for west Australians devoid of greenery. Swimming pool is large and at the time our visit, no issues with securing chairs. Activities offered in the pool by very enthusiastic pool staff who are engaging and fun.
.
The beach was fine, with white sand and clean water, but does experience large tidal variation and at low tide is not quite as appealing as the reef is exposed. This was not an issue for our family, as we were not seeking a beach holiday.
(Personally, I enjoyed the experience of sitting at the beachside cafe, watching the locals fish, sipping a drink, enjoying pizza - all as the sun went down.)

All staff are deferential, attentive, smiling and appearing happy!!
All the dining and reception staff had good English language skills ( many are sufficiently multilingual to cater for European and Japanese Guests)

During our stay, noticed guests from Russia, Japanese, Scandinavia and the occasional Australian.

Resort is 10 minute walk to Bali Collection, where there is a selection of restaraunts, shops etc. Bali Collection is a little sterile, but safe, devoid of touts, noise, traffic, motorcycles , boorish behaviour etc. Prices for dining out are approximately one half of Resort pricing, but perhaps not of the same quality in both content and presentation as the resort

The Resort has a well equipped gym, with a variety of well maintained , good quality equipment.
Take time to visit the Art Museum, situated next door to the Resort
(Shortcut via the tennis courts, which can also be used as shortcut to Bali Collection)

I went for early morning walks in both directions from the resort. This walk is particularly enjoyable in the evenings. If you choose, you can dine at other Resorts/Hotels along the strip

Nusa Dua is quiet and restful and devoid of the hustle and bustle of Kuta, which may or may not be appealing to other travellers.
(It was ideal for us on this occasion!)

Never felt for my personal safety, even at night.

The resort met our expectations/needs and we had a very enjoyable, relaxing holiday.
It may not be unique to the Melia, but all staff that we came into contact with were delightful and charming.

This is one of the older hotels but we liked it here. Our Lagoon suite has a pool just outside our rear door. This makes it convenient to dip into the water and cool off after a hot day spent shopping or sightseeing. The room is spacious. There is an area with a desk and day bed. The king size bed is very comfortable, not too hard or too soft. There is both a bathtub and shower in the bathroom, but one sink only.

This is a sprawling property with lovely gardens. On my first day, I made wrong turns and it took me a while to figure out the quickest way to our room. I did walk to the beach one day and saw the main pool. However, we were happy with the pool beside our room and used that the most.

The breakfast buffet is plentiful and varied. In general, we found the food at the different restaurants to have large portions and also flavorful.

A few things I did not like:
The flooring in the bathroom and part of the bedroom is old. I suspect that it is original to the building.
The roofs of the buildings need cleaning or should be changed.
They fog with insecticide in the afternoons when guest and employees are moving about. This is a health hazard. I quickly entered my room when I saw the smoke from the insecticide. An employee was walking around oblivious to the health hazard that she was exposed to.
The lawn outside our room needs serious redoing. It has lots of weeds.

Altogether though , a very comfortable and convenient location. I even walked to Bali Collections next door - a mere 10 minute walk for me. We will not hesitate to return.

Room Tip: The Lagoon Suites on the ground floor beside the meandering pool are spacious. It is also nice to ha...

Warmest greetings from Melia Bali!

Dear Coellum,

Thank you for your feedback on your recent holiday experience. I am delighted to hear that you found our Lagoon Access Suites are spacious and accommodating all your needs.

In regards to the fumigation within the property, regret to inform you that there is no other choice to avoid the mosquito. However we are using the safe and friendly chemical, also control and minimize the frequency of the fumigation according to the need. The fumigation schedule is clearly informed and printed in our hotel information you received upon arrival, The Journal.

Once again, thank you for your feedback and we appreciate your comments as we are constantly looking to improve in all areas of our hotel. Please do get in contact with any of us for any specific requests on your return visit.

If you can book one of the Melia Garden Villas!! Lot of space, intimacy and privacy. The Villa are just perfect if you need to rest or even just dont want to see other people! You get you own lap pool, your own private beach area. The Level lounge even if it is small is nice. The staff are just great. Melia Bali is may be not consider as the WOW resort in Bali but it is still one of the best in my point of view.

Nusa Dua is an excellent, safe location. Melia is one of several hotels on this strip. Its a large, resort style, with many activities - basketball courts, tennis courts, gym, spa, huge pool area, and beach access. It is right next door to Bali Collections (some restaurants and shops). So good if you have kids - there is plenty to do. Location-wise, it is very good.

Checkin was a little slow, but they were busy and the room I had booked was not available so they upgraded us to a junior suite. This is a split-level duplex style. Bedroom & bathroom is on the upper level.

Suite itself was spacious and well appointed. My issue was the bathroom, which was small, and standing in the bathtub to use the shower, my head was almost on the roof (and I am just 6' tall). The bathroom is overall rather 'cheap-ish' and a bit of a let down.

Breakfast was not that good at all - particularly for a higher end hotel chain. Food looked average in quality and variety was low. Certainly something the hotel really needs to lift its game on. It was included though in my room deal.

On the plus side, I did get a good deal on the rate at the time, so all in perspective. The poolside is great - it is a very big pool, so plenty of room to not be tripping over other guests. Food at the beachside restaurant was very good. The grounds are very large, so you can wander about - and there is a nice waiting lounge if you check out and are waiting for your ride to the airport. you can even take a shower in the gym to freshen up.

Overall, there are probably better, newer, hotels along this strip, but at the price point, the Melia was still a very good hotel.

Thank you very much for coming back again to our resort also the feedback on your recent holiday experience. We truly value the information you have provided. Your responses are vital in helping Melia Bali to provide a memorable holiday experience that meets the highest standards of excellence. In regards to the problem on the bathroom ceiling height, we do have one room category that could be the solutions, our villa has a private Balinese traditional style outdoor shower where the open blue sky will be the ceiling :-)

Thanks for reviewing us and we hope to see you again soon!

My family and I stayed 8 nights at the Melia. Throughout this time we came across many, many staff (there must be 100s employed there) and I could not fault one of them in any way. They were all gracious, charming, smiling and helpful.
Resorts are not for everyone and this is a big one but if you want a resort, I could not recommend this one more highly. The food was lovely and varied (and kids meals from the kids menu free if the adult also ordered a meal), the position was good (right on the beach, easy walk to the shopping complex of Bali Collection and also the more low market shops at the entry to Nusa Dua), transport easy, rooms and grounds clean and, as I said, staff great. Anything you wanted was possible. One morning, there were no doughnuts at breakfast and Mr 3 wanted one so the chefs rushed off and organised some for him. Another day, I forgot the number to the safe, within minutes a man was there fixing it for me. Nothing was a problem.
We used the kids club twice. There were not many using it (just not that many families staying at the resort) so we had 3 adults (lovely, lovely women) looking after our 2 kids.
The management of Melia must be doing something right to have so many staff, working so well. Congratulations.

Room Tip: Spend the extra and get a lagoon room. They're on the ground floor for a start and it's so n...

I personally don't like to stay in resorts. They are too big in this part of the world but somehow I landed here for a night, between flights. I was even upgraded to a "duplex" room wi an upstairs bedroom. I realized again that such rooms are overrated. It is inconvenient to carry one's suitcase upstairs and one ends up sleeping upstairs but making constant teips downstairs. Just to make it more complicated, the wardrobes are only upstairs but the electrical outlet to recharge phone/iPad/laptop is only downstairs, and only one at that. The bathroom fittings are a bit dated and the shower is definitely stingy with both water quantity it delivers and the force with which it does so. The room service is very efficient but I was a bit annoyed to discover no Indian food on the menu. Today in five star places, especially in India one always finds something Indian, which is great if one is in a vegetarian mood. The premises are huge, well cared for and artistically pleasing. The gym is well equipped. The breakfast spread is great and the Omlette was made just perfectly to suit my liking. All the same it would have been great if flies were not hovering over the big food spread. That was not nice.

Room Tip: The resort is on seaside but the foliage around is so thick that there are no seaview rooms. Still...
