“Good Property”
Reviewed 19 June 2014

Melia Bali is one of the good Properties that you get to see in Nusa Dua. Beautifully and aesthetically made, this beach resort has a lot to offer in house. From the moment you enter you are stuck by the great wooden and hand painted ceiling and the of the reception. It has good flora and fauna and leaves you with a good feeling otherwise.

Since its a beach resort, its not very centrally located, so one needs a cab to roam around. Although its not very far away from the main central Nus Dua Area. Our room was duplex, in which some aspects like a drawing area, a separate sitting area left you feeling good and some aspects like a very small bedroom, lack of ventilation, left you feeling a bit bad.

Overall it was a good experience

Stayed in a Garden Villa on 15 and 16 July. The "room" is a walled villa with a private outside dining bale, a cushioned outside bale and a pool. The room has a huge bathroom and outdoor shower. A beautiful retreat from the rest of the hotel. The room also gives acess to the Level Lounge which has great staff and fantastic cocktails. The exclusive pool shared by the villas and the private villa beach area are also great. The staff here do a great job. The spa did a great reflexology treatment.

However, the nearby disco will stop anybody in the whole resort sleeping until it winds up at 11 pm. The noise is sufficient to stop you watching tv let alone sleeping. Other Nusa Dua hotels are further away. The coffee shop is more like a deserted factory lunch room
with no real ambience and a limited menu. The remaining restaurants appear better. The food in the hotel is nothing special and the staff are not that helpful outside the lounge and villa pools. The room service and turndown service is inconsistent. It was provided some nights and not others. Laundry excellent the first day but multiple calls required to get the clothes back on the last day. Hotel taxi to airport will not take you on the freeway unless you pay extra in cash along the way.

All in all a dissappointment with lost potential. We left with a bad taste in our mouths and would look somewhere else if we were to go back.

Room Tip: The garden villa was lovely. Would not like to stay there in a standard room.

Location, hotel, food, bar service, drinks, stuff, beach, nice garden - everything perfect. It was quite hot in the night (but this is not surprise due to location). Just one small complaint - light in the shower looked like out of electrical safety standards. I recommend to book one-day trips to the country to see real life in Bali.

We stayed at the Melia for a week. On our first night we had to move rooms at 3am as the air conditioning was broken. Our second room also had broken air conditioning in the bathroom, so it was always stifling in there, this was reported to the hotel but they could not fix it. The room we were in also had wooden windows in the bathroom which we had to call reception about as they weren't closed properly so a man had to come out and bash them so they closed (they weren't too safe if you ask me, with no sort of fastening on them anyone could have got in if they wanted to). There were also a fair few ants in our bathroom that we regularly had to kill (probably coming through the dodgy window). We also had an issue with our safe that they had to come and sort.

All together, before any of the above happened, we were disappointed in the quality of the rooms. The rooms are by no means 4* (I would say more like 3*). Do not be fooled by the website, the images on there are not accurate for the standard guest rooms. The guest rooms are dated, particularly the bathrooms could do with some attention. All the guest rooms we stayed in/were shown were all on the ground floor too, I got the feeling that the better (upgrade) rooms were on the higher floors. We were also disappointed in how the hotel staff handled our problems, none of them apologised for the inconvenience of having to change rooms in the middle of the night or for the other issues we had. We asked about upgrading our room, but it seemed like they didn't take into account we had already paid to stay there.

If you are going to Nusa Dua, you should be aware that it is just hotels in a gated complex. We walked out to explore a little, but there's not much there apart from a line of local shops. There is however a mall in the complex of Nusa Dua that you can shop and eat in. But once you're in the Nusa Dua complex you could pretty much be anywhere.

Good points for the Melia are; the gardens are lovely and well kept, choices of restaurants, beds are comfy, beach and pool, watersports, good for families.

The hotel was built in the 80s and I'd say the air con probably hasn't been updated since, even in the dining area where breakfast was they had portable air conditioning units. I wouldn't stay here again, nor would I recommend it to any couples travelling to Bali. All in all, a bit of a let down.

This was our 3rd trip to Bali, but our first trip to Nusa Dua and what a great choice Melia Bali was, a peaceful and tranquil spot in the Nusa Dua resort area. It is a short (~30 minute) taxi journey from the airport using the new (toll) freeway.

The staff are friendly, the hotel is clean and the food is great (although we only ate once in the evening). We had a junior suite (bedroom & bathroom upstairs) overlooking the gardens. We'd recommend this type of room to give you a bit more room and some picturesque views. There was a bit of construction happening, but you hardly noticed this at all, i.e. not much noise.

A highlight was the morning routing of walking down to the beach for a refreshing swim in the ocean. Having the full moon meant that we had some incredible high and low tides. It must be noted that there are no life guards on duty and this is well signposted.

The drinks were more expensive than elsewhere, but a short walk (~5 minutes) to Bali Collection provided more restaurant and drink options at cheaper prices. There is a good range of shopping there also, with the usual holiday memorabilia along with some clothing brands.

The hotel card gave a good indication of the best time (i.e. least busy) for breakfast, but by around 9:30 there was a long queue outside the door, so get there early!

If we go back to Nusa Dua, we will be staying in the Melia again.

This was our first trip to Bali and we were so happy we had been persuaded to stay in Nusa Dua. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Melia. The staff were very friendly and always helpful. The housekeeping was fantastic. The selection at breakfast was amazing. The only down side was the food and drinks at the resort was quite expensive. That aside we would definitely stay at the Melia again

food was awesome, especially breakfast - try the khawsuey for sure.

the pool is bigg. your kids will love it.

just one thing - my son is a sea person and he was disappointed that during the day, the sea was either too inside or there were no waves. that coupled with seaweeds made him take up the pool instead. he promptly compared it to radhanagar beach in andamans and rated it a 5/5. i tend to agree with him.

apart from this, the hotel is old but princely and affordable and people inside are nice and welcoming as across bali.

i really wanted to try a good homestay at bali. that would've been different. maybe next time.

Room Tip: its a big hotel. so if u dont want to walk too much, select a room near the reception.
