Novotel Bali Nusa Dua Hotel & Residences
Ranked #25 of 54 Hotels in Nusa Dua
Reviewed 7 September 2010

With a huge kids pool, a daycare center and large play area, the Novotel Bali Nusa Dua must rank as one of the all-time great family-with-kids resorts.

So if you have kids, or like being around kids at play, then by all means stay here. However, if the sound of kids playing, fighting, laughing, crying from sun-up to sun-down is a distraction, then you may want to consider someplace else. I, for one, enjoyed it, even as a single traveller.

Otherwise, this is a lovely resort, complete with all the Balinese touches you would expect. One negative - you have to take a shuttle bus to the beach, THE PROPERTY IS NOT ON THE BEACH, as the marketing material suggests.

Taxi's into town are cheap, if you request a metered taxi, a far bit pricier of you take the hotel transport they will suggest to you.

Staff is excellent. Food is above-average. Gym is outstanding and the wireless is decent enough.

You'll be tempted to stay your entire vacation within the property, but do try to get out and see the island. What I love about Bali is that you can see so much in a day. The budget beaches of Kuta, the bucolic splendor of the rice terraces, the temples and, of course, the upscale tourist escape of Nusa Dua.

All-in, a stay well done, thanks Novotel.

We booked the 3 bedroom apartment as our group consisted of myself, my husband our 16 month old as well as our friends who had a two year old and a three year old. We were estatic when we were told we had been upgraded to a 3 bedroom 3 bathroom apartment with its own plunge pool. Total luxury. In essence we had our own wings which was fabulous when it came to privacy. Service was great. The entire hotel was clean and tidy. This was priority for me since my son was still crawling. Food at the hotel was a reasonable price and was lovely. Our group bought five day packages for the hotel spa which we all thoroughly enjoyed. Street markets are walking distance which my girfriend and I took full advantage of and Kuta is only 30 minutes by taxi.
The only negative was that the entrance doors on the apartment are not child proof. On more that one occasion we found our friends children wandering outside our apartment to the extent that even one time one of the staff members had brought one of the boys back. We dont know how far he had wandered. We were always on guard when it came to the pool door. Other than that our stay was absolutely fabulous and we would definately stay there again.

This was our second visit to Novotel Nusa Dua - our first stay was in September 2009. We loved it so much that we had to return! We booked a 2 bedroom apartment for us & our 2 girls (aged 8 & 13 years) using the Novotel website. Upon arrival we were thrilled to be upgraded to an apartment with its own private pool. The apartment was very spacious with the girl's room & bathroom on one side & the master suite on the other with the lounge/dining in between. Our ensuite was huge with separate shower, toilet & oval shaped bath with shutters opening into the bedroom. The bed was a super king with a canopy above. French doors to the courtyard & pool opened from each room. There were 2 TV's, a DVD player, 2 fridges & a safe. We made full use of the hotel amenities including the beautiful pools, beauty spa & private beach (Beach Club). Included in our room rate was daily buffet breakfast which offered many choices including fresh pastries, eggs cooked on request, pancakes, waffles, fresh fruit etc. We ate dinner one night at the resort & it was a BBQ night with lovely salads, meat & seafood BBQed on request & scrumptious desserts. We also went to the Pause Cafe regularly for lunch & delicious smoothies, & ordered from the snack menu in the Pool Bar. The Pool Bar has a happy hour from 6.30-7.30 with 2 for 1 drinks. Most of the time we chose to dine in the evening at the restaurants around the corner in Bualu Village as they offered huge menus, great service & often live entertainment for a very reasonable price. We would have no hesitation on returning to Novotel Nusa Dua on our next trip to Bali.

Got home this morning and we're missing it already. Great breakfast, great pool, great location, great staff. Fantastic restaurants within 5 minutes walk. Step out the back door past the Pause Cafe(Yummy cakes/coffee) and turn right and go up the street to Number 45 to get a weeks worth of laundry for 2 people done for 35000Rp/$4.50

We loved this place. A gorgeous girl called Tiwi works in The Square restaurant and made our stay so much nicer with her impeccable service and constantly smiling face. But don't be planning on staying here for a quiet romantic holiday. This is very much a family hotel. We didn't have children with us, but if we did, the Kids Club looked amazing. Many families took full advantage of the programs they offered.

Overall, We couldn't complain. A very pleasurable stay. We have just booked to go back in June next year, this time with the kids, and we can't wait.

Would definately stay again, had one bedroom apartment which had everything we needed including DVD plaver and large flat screen TVs in Lounge and bedroom. Food was great but for cheaper options when you go out the front of the hotel, turn left then first street left. Down that street you will find some great cheap eats, really great little laundry (drop off morning and pick up evening same day), Cheap DVD shop and all the usual little market type shops and much cheaper supermarket options than Bali Collection. Nusa Dua is much quieter and cleaner than most of Bali.

We stayed in a 2 bedroom private pool residence and it was fantastic. Staying in a Private Residence you can use all the facilities of the hotel. We also had a fully fitted kitchen, washing machine, DVD player etc, so a bit more than in the hotel. Downside was that the rooms are only cleaned and linen/towels changed twice a week. If you need linen changed, as we did after a spill, you get charged for it. There was also no amenities on arrival, so no soap until we got to the shops. We had 2 bedrooms, both with king size beds, kitchen, dining and living areas as well as a back courtyard with pool and daybed and a front porch. It was all in balinese style, the same as the hotel and was lovely and cool. The pool was only cleaned once while we were there so we had to clear the leaves out a few times, and as it didn't get a lot of sun it was much colder than the main pool so we didn't use it all the time!

We arranged to be collected on arrival by the hotel which all went smoothly and was $US15. The driver (as do all drivers in Bali) gave us his card and we used him again to return to the airport for lower cost (IDR 100,000), but higher than you can probably get if you try a bit harder. If you try and get a meter taxi from reception they will get you a driver who will overcharge for short trips. There's a meter taxi stand outside the back entrance. Bluebird Taxis always use the meter and the drivers were always of a good standard. Once you have used a meter taxi you get an idea of the price when you are talking to the private drivers! We were advised to use meter taxi to get as far as Jimbaran as the cheapest way (and this was from a private driver).

Checkin all went smoothly and we were offered a breakfast deal - $10 nett for every day, or $10 ++ (21%) for some days, or usual price was $17++. We didn't want breakfast supplied but I had a look and it seemed to have everything, pretty standard hotel buffet breakfast. Egg bar, cereals, pastries, asian breakfast stuff etc.

The Pause cafe at the back of the hotel does very drinkable coffee (the bar could take some lessons here as their coffee was awful), as well as lovely french pastries and baguettes etc. Just outside this door is a Circle K which has all the essentials before you can get to the supermarket, including little bags of ice for your duty free and cheap bottled water.

Room service was very reasonably priced, and the food was on par with many of the restaurants we ate at outside the hotel. If you are after Balinese or Indonesian food, there are a few choices, but this applies everywhere. Most restaurants seem to think tourists want pizza and steak! We didn't try the dinner buffets, but they seemed good value at 185,000++. The bar serves basically the same food as room service at the same price. We had one cocktail at the bar and it wasn't too good.

The staff were always very friendly, even the ground keepers and security always said hello with a smile.

The pool was fantastic. We always got sun lounges when we needed them (one day there were towels reserving seats with no personal belongings so after an hour or so we just moved the towels). We went to the beach one day but got hit with a tropical storm as soon as we arrived so didn't stay long. The pool was so nice we didn't bother going back.

There is wi-fi available for about $AUD5 per hour if you have your laptop, or there are a couple of free computers at reception for checking emails etc.

We had a 2.5 year old with us, who was too young to do kids club alone, but we hired a babysitter through the hotel for $US6 per hour who took her there and then brought her home for a nap so we could get out alone. All the carers were very nice, although there didn't seem to be much following the daily timetable, and seemed to be a lot of TV watching. There is also a kids pool just outside that anyone can use - about 40cm deep and great for toddlers to play in.

There is a big open air shopping centre nearby called Bali Collection that has a supermarket that was reasonably priced compared to home, but expensive compared to outside supermarkets. There is a Hardy's now in Nusa Dua (about 5 mins in car), but we were taken to Matahari Shopping Centre (nearer Kuta) on our way back from Ubud which was very cheap and had things like fresh chicken and pasta (to make kids meals as they can't survive on chips alone!).

Our only complaint was the mosquitos. They fog every day, but it just seemed to drive the little blighters inside. You can buy plug in insect repellants for the room reasonably cheaply from the supermarket or the chemist in the Bali Collection and I would advise this as DEET only lasts a few hours and they got us during the night, even with all the doors & windows closed.

I would thoroughly recommend this hotel if you are after a relaxing holiday to mainly lie around the pool with an occasional excursion outside. If you want lots of shopping, restaurants, nightlife or balinese culture, then this is probably not the place.
