We (my wife and my 5 years old son) stayed at this club for 5 days and 4 nights in early August. The was the first time we visited Bali and stayed with Club Med. The overall experience was fairly good.
With a flight delay of 2 hours and late arrival at 9pm, the check-in was a sweet and short one. We were greeted by a Cantonese speaking Malaysia G.O.s Vinqx to our surprise. Despite my knowledge that Club Med has G.O.s coming from different parts of the world, it was out of our expectation that the Club arranged a Cantonese speaking G.O. to welcome us. I noticed from my short stay there that the Club would try to take care of this aspect to make the guests feel welcomed to the extent possible. I saw Japanese and Mainland Chinese or Taiwanese guests checked in by Japanese and Mandarin speaking G.O.s at least.
Unlike checking into a hotel, they seemed to have all your information and what we were asked to do before brought to our room was to put down my email address.
The Club has 5 blocks of rooms. The one which is closet to the reception area / swimming pool / restaurants is block 10000. The one which is most further away is block 5000. Some recommended here that you should choose a room in block 1000 to 3000 because of a shorter walk to and from the main activity area while the others commented that you should choose a room in block 3000 to 5000 if you want a quiet environment. I say it is irrelevant. We were given a room in block 2000 which was also quiet. We took a walk from block 5000 to the main activity area and it was not long.
If I have to say one thing that I didn't like about the club, it was the room. The wardrobe was dusty. The washroom had no tooth brush and tooth paste. The air-conditioning was set at 25-26 degree Celsius on average that you could not adjust. That said, if your expectation is not a hotel standard but a hostel one, it should be alight.
Restaurants and Food
Food was generally good. Although there were two restaurants (one for buffet style breakfast, lunch and dinner and the other for set dinner only), you can ignore the latter one because (i) you have to make reservation in person and it is usually fully booked by 8:30am; (ii) the set dinner was not anything better than the buffet. Forget also this latter restaurant for snacks served in the afternoon tea time and supper time as the so called snacks were just bread and fruit.
There were two: one by the pool side and the other one at the beach. Both were great. The pool side one was always crowded so if you want to enjoy a quiet drink and do not want to queue to be served, go to the beach bar.
We were hesitant initially to put our boy there, but he was so happy with the activities after spending the first half day, so we put him there for two full days and one half day altogether. From my observation, the G.O.s operating the mini clubs were generally organized and caring.
Shows and Parties
They had shows and parties every night after dinner. These were all organized and performed by the G.O.s and we were amazed by the high quality. You would not be bored with these evening activities if you do not stay over a week.
Special thanks to the following G.Os for making our stay a memorable one:
Vinqx - who took care my son like a family member and made friend with him even after our departure. We were touched by the little gift she sent my son before she went on vacation prior to our departure.
Lamis and Picki @ the Club Mini - who provided a lot of fun to my son and took care of him so that my wife and I can enjoy some private time.
Dina and Lauresial @ the bars - who chatted with us like our good friends.
J.B. (the chief of village) who showed up from time to time to meet and greet the guests. I was also amazed by his passion to perform almost every night at the show and hosted parties. He is a "general manager of a resort" after all.
Good job Club Med! We will come back!
