“Great staff, great location, great stay.”
Reviewed 6 June 2010

We emailed the Adirama hotel about a booking and received an email confirmation for our room and the airport pickup within a couple of hours. At the airport, even though our flight was delayed a whole hour, our driver was there and we had no trouble finding him at all. The drive to Lovina from Denpasar is long (about 2 and a half hours) and the roads are winding at some points when crossing mountains, but the car was large, comfy and airconditioned so it wasn't a bad ride. When we arrived we were told that our Family room that we had booked had a maintenance issue, so instead they were putting us in their Raja suites (nicest and largest rooms they had)! The suite had a verandah overlooking the sea, a master bedroom with a king bed, hallway with sink and toilet, kicthenette with stove, fridge and sink, another shower, a jacuzzi tub in its own separate room, and another room with twin beds and another set of sinks, bathroom and shower. There was a tv and airconditioning in each of the bedrooms, though the channels on the tvs are pretty limited, but who wants to watch tv when you could be outside anyways? We went on the dolphin tour arranged by the hotel and it was great, saw lots of them and also had a great sunrise. The restaurant is reasonable and there is a variety of foods. The pool, like some other reviews have said is a bit salty, and the water in the showers is a little brackish, but there's plenty of bottled water provided to brush your teeth/wash your face with. The staff were the best, very polite and courteous and all smiles. This was our favorite trip to Bali so far, we're definitely coming back!

we chose this hotel because of the good reviews.
i thought the place was OK-ish, maybe because the hotel was in Lovina it was bit more pricey.
the room was clean, toilet clean, bed comfy. not all rooms have a fridge, so if u need one please inform them (it says in the website that the fridge is included).
there was a small replica of the 'rajawali' god in the room that freaked me out, other than that , it was OK.
there's a nice pool but the water was salty, i wonder if they get their water from the sea...
breakfast was good especially since it was included it the price.
the staff were friendly.
the best part was definately the beach-which was literally at the back and a few steps away from the hotel. and the dolphins, dont forget the dolphins!

We stayed here 4 nights in "Suite #2" and the accommodation was great. Cost was $60 US a night including a very substantial breakfast. Suite #2 is on the 2nd floor and faces directly on to the sea. Awesome large balcony with loungers. We stayed up there most of the time! Room was huge with kitchenette and living area. Very nice pool with padded loungers and restaurant/bar facing the beach.

A walk on the road is noisy and not very interesting. A walk on the beach is not very enjoyable. The beach is public and as such you will experience a group of vendors who unfailingly show up at meal times. There is a short wall which keeps them out but they are still able to get quite close to the best tables nearest the sea. If you find it difficult to deal with hawkers, especially while enjoying a lovely meal, then you may want to choose elsewhere.

Three dead dogs, garbage and two nearby sewage canals definitely dampened our enthusiasm for a walk along the beach.

We would recommend the hotel, but not the beach. Most people come to Lovina to see the dolphins so stay here a few days to enjoy the view and sound of the sea and then move on.

The location of this hotel is ideal, which was the motivation for our first booking in 2007. It is located right at a beautiful part of a beach at the quiet northern sea of Bali, where only a snorkel (and watershoes!) and 50 meter walking and swimming is sufficient to observe beautiful small fishes and coral etc. just under the waterline without being disturbed by tourists.
The size of the attractive hotel is just perfect for us: it is not too large that you feel one of many tourists and still of sufficient size to have the main facilities of a good hotel.
The friendliness of the balinese staff and dutch owner, the hotel with its nice swimming pool and perfect balinese massages make us looking forward to coming back soon for another stay at this hotel, this time with our children and (grand) parents. In the surrounding there are a plenty of possibilities for visits but only staying at the hotel and taking a drink and let you spoil by the salutary warm breeze in the shade of the hotel's cocktailbar at the beachside is already worth the stay.

I have decided to write a review of the Adirama as I am incensed by the review posted by the previous reviewer from Canada.
My partner and I have stayed for at least 10 nights each time on four previous occasions, the last being November 2009, and the next trip is booked for 19 March 2010. Its a long trip from the UK, but we know that every visit will be the same fantastic experience, and that why we return time and time again to the Adirama.
We found the hotel back in 2006 by chance on the internet, and have never been disappointed.
Its a long journey up from Denpasar, but the road passes some lovely scenery, and the trip is easily broken with a break at Pacung, another of our favourite spots. The Adirama will arrange an airport pick up in their air conditioned people carrier at very resonable cost, and it is possible to have the car all day with the driver for trips out whilst you are there, again at very reasonable cost.
I cannot praise the staff highly enough for their attentive service and friendly welcome, and the whole feeling at the Adirama is of one big happy family. Ruud, the Dutch owner, and his wife Anik, work hard to look after their hotel and staff, and it is obvious that the staff are happy working there. A lot of investment has been put into improvements recently, with a nice new bar with internet access, and new paving round the pretty gardens. The whole place is spotless, and maintained to a high standard. Anik and Ruud live next door to the hotel, so are very hands on, and they are very approachable. Balinese dancing is taught by Anik, and local girls do traditional dances at least once a week, usually followed by the hotel staff providing vocal and musical entertainment too.
The location of the hotel is at the western end of Lovina, a nice quiet spot away from the hustle and bustle of the village centre, but close enough to walk to by road or beach.
The sea is very shallow for a long distance from shore, and local fishermen can be seen standing a long way out for hours on end up to their chests in water. The water is very calm, protected by an offshore reef where snorkalling can be arranged with a local boat man just down the beach, or just swum out to.
The food at the hotel restaurant is fantastic, with a Mexican speciality section, and prices are attractive. We have never had a problem with any meals, and the fact that the owners eat there regularly inspires me with full confidence in the hygene and quality of the food. The chef is very accomodaing if you want something which is not listed. The restaurant is right next to the beach allowing you to enjoy the view whist eating or having a drink, and at night the sea gently laps the beach and the fishermen;s lights can be seen out in their boats silently waiting for their catch.
Our visits to Bali are for complete rest from a very busy life, and we have seen so much of the island that we generally spend most of our time at the hotel being looked after by the wonderful staff. A large number of short stay visitors to the hotel seem to be stopping for a couple of nights during an island tour, and the pool is thus never crowded, in fact on many occasions we have been the only ones there. At the other end of the spectrum, there are many repeat guests from many different countries, and several of these stay several weeks over the winter in one of the suites which have the perfect views to the sea. .
Though I have never had a massage (its not my thing) I have heard good reports on the massages available, and there is a special massage room for privacy.
To summarise, book the Adirama, you will not be disappointed. Ignore the negative posting, read the others which give you a correct report.

We have traveled extensively through Asia/SE Asia including a simple but spotless hotel in Tibet. The internet and brochures on this place say it was recently renovated...IN 2003. TV 's are not in every room but cockroaches are in some. Our daughter's family room had them in the dirty refrigerator. When it was reported to the staff nothing was done so she did the removal. Her sink wouldn't drain and we showered in ankle deep water. We stayed for 3 nights ate all but 1 dinner there. The food service at dinner time took 2 to 2 1/2 hours. Our poor grand daughter feel asleep waiting for hers. The owner (and his guests) who ate regularly at the restaurant got his their) meals in 15 to 20 minutes...great PR!!! Many of the orders we incorrect but you eat it when you are hungry. I quietly spoke to the owner about our problems and concerns, his response was talk to his staff not him. Sure... only 1 person on his staff his capable of speaking and understanding English and to her I give a "hats off". She tried very hard but nothing was ever accomplished because her owner doesn't care. This place will become a complete dump before long if the owner doesn't get his act together. A disappointed Canadian.
