Owner description: The Sanur Beach Promenade is lined with brightly painted outrigger boats along the water's edge, and good restaurants and cafes opposite. Treat yourself to a massage offered by one of the many masseuses with divans on the sand. If you're there in July, catch the Bali Kite Festival, a colorful international competition.

Sanur Area is Laid back. Most of the people who stay here are old couples and retirees. Its nice a quiet, theres no noisy bars at night and the restaurants serve international cuisine. There's a starbucks that looks new but with all the local coffee shops, its always empty. If could like to have something familiar, then its a good retreat.

The main road where most of the activity takes place is behind the beach. The beach front area seems to be dead in the evening.

The beach was calm and good for swimming compared to most of the other beaches in Bali. If you stay in a beach front resort, you might be too far from where all the action is (as laid back as it is already).

From the moment we arrived at the beach we were endlessly hassled by some very aggressive and persistent hawkers and women offering massages on grubby looking beds on the beach. The beach itself has lots of seaweed and I did not consider it a suitable place for a swim.

There is a walk along the back of the beach which could be ok were it not for the hawkers and constant stream of bicycles.

Sanur beach is less than 20 minutes drive from Kuta. It costs about $8 - $10 USD by taxi to get there and it is worth at least a day trip, if not an overnight trip at one of the local hotels. We had spent 4 days in Ubud, then an additional 6 days in Kuta and wanted a change of pace. So I used wifi and looked up Sanur and noticed it had a boardwalk. That is what is sold us on staying in a hotel (Regent Bali) for 2 nights there.

Sanur offers a much slower place than some of the other places but that was the appeal for us. We have spent a lot of time in Thailand, and some of the smaller coastal islands there had the same draw, so we wanted a similiar vibe. The surrounding area does offer a market with lots of shopping, tons of restaurants, and people watch. The beach is small and spans maybe 5 or 6 km, but most people just walk the boardwalk, or they rent bicycles, which we did every day we were there. The crowd is relaxed, mostly locals, or middle aged tourists. We are in our early thirties so we definitely were more on the younger side, but we enjoyed the fact that we could find beach loungers easily anywhere on the beach to relax and watch all the boats, fishermen, and kite surfers in the water. The tide is the most shallow I have seen in all of Bali, and is only a few feet deep for a few hundred yards. Which is why this area is known for its seafood. About twice a day, fishermen would go walk out (not boat out) into the sea, and wade through the shallow water in the early morning, early evening, and at night with flashlights to get fresh seafood. They would sell to local restaurants and I could sit back with ease knowing just how fresh my food is. AND IT WAS. The best fish I had in Bali, was every meal I ate in Sanur. The food will not disappoint. And it is a little cheaper than Kuta as well, since it is slower there. If you are looking to have a relaxing day where you spend little to no money, then Sanur is perfect for you, your group, or your family.

Very nice beach - not just a long stretch of white sand!
You do have the white sands but also rocky sea walls, fishing boats anchored at sea and some up on the shore.
Fishermen weighing their catch on the promenade - a big 5kg Mahi Mahi fish was just being weighed when we were there.
Resorts and restaurants line the beach road and between the road and the beach is a long, spacious, cobbled promenade - with shade trees and market stalls (tourist prices!)
Various jetties reach into the water - especially notable is the rock one with pathway leading to a quaint little roofed shelter.
The tourist boats were busy plying their trade.
A very relaxing place to spent an hour or two.

We were at the beach near sundown. We went to Inna Grand Hotel to take a look and from there we were able to access the beach.
We did not stay for more than half hour as it was getting dark.
