I have been returning to the Gardenia on a regular basis since my first visit in 2011 and I am never disappointed. It is located in the quieter southern part of Sanur diagonally opposite the Hotel Mercure. A 5 minute walk to the beach, good restaurants immediately nearby (but why would you wish to eat anywhere else? The food in the Gardenia is extremely good). Owned my an Australian woman, Gloria and her Balinese husband, Ming, they are gracious hosts. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. Since the new toll road has opened Gardenia and Sanur are a great introduction to any newcomer to the island.

We spent 2 nights in this delightful Guest House in late April. We were in the Gardenia Suite which consisted of 2 adjoining rooms and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The rooms were spotlessly clean with nice cool air-conditioning which I have to say we felt was a must in Sanur as we found it 3-4 degrees hotter than Nusa Dua.

The pool was great and although not large was a welcome dose of coolness after a few hours out in the heat.

We had a great breakfast every morning which was part of our room rate and also ate a number of other meals in the restaurant attached to the Guest house. There were a lot of NZ and Australian visitors who came while we were there to either eat (as the food was good and very reasonably priced) or to book in for a few days on their existing trip or for a future one after having had a look at the rooms. We would fully recommend it as a place to stay in Sanur as it was very reasonably priced.

They have a nice little shop there as well which my daughter found fascinating and ended up purchasing a couple of items. The prices were very reasonable.

One thing to be aware of is that local taxi drivers are not great on knowing their way around Sanur so it is good to get the Guest House to tell you what landmark to use when getting a taxi back to the Guest House.

We would happily go back here again.

Room Tip: Do spray your room in the evening before settling in for the night.

Fantastic property with delightful restaurant out the front with home made home style food and coffees. The owners Ming and Gloria have got this one absolutely spot on, a great place to stay and would stay here again.

Room Tip: Get the biggest room available.

as regular visitors to bali, my wife & I wanted to try somewhere different, so we headed for sanur.
we were about to travel to the north of the island, but stopped here for breakfast. on reading the signs, we looked at the rooms. we were lucky they had a vacancy for the dates that we were due back in sanur. we stayed 3 nights, not the most luxurious place but clean & tidy, and only $50au per night.(including breakfast!)
They have 7 rooms in total, it has a small pool & even has 2 rooms for the disabled.
If all you want is a place to lay your head, this quiet little place is for you.
the food in the cafe is excellent & staff are very friendly.
I would certainly come back here.

Room Tip: the disabled rooms are close to the kitchen and back on to a house with a yappy little dog.

For the second time I stayed at the Gardenia Guesthouse; the first time when it had just opened its doors and then already certain that it wouldn’t be the last visit. Happy to find that nothing had changed, and that I could occupy the same room as the first time. Most of all, however was that the the great service, friendliness of the staff was wonderful and unchanged.

On the beach nearby, Gardenia is now also represented by The Magnolia, where the same good food, drinks and good service can be enjoyed, which I did for a full week.

I did not see the owners of Gardenia (who were busy working on yet another nice ‘place to be’), but they are certainly behind the secret of Gardenia’s success.

Thanks staff for a wonderful week. Annelies Mansoor

The Guesthouse rooms are huge with beautiful ornate built in wardrobes and stained glass windows in the bathroom. I like the big open rooms, although there is no doors, so if your concerned about privacy whilst in the bathroom this may not be for you. Also there is a small kitchenette which could come in handy. There is a small pool, but I would recommend wondering across the street to the hotel opposite and using theirs or accessing the beach there too.

The food in the café is pretty good with a wide selection.

What a lovely little cafe. Excellent service. Excellence food and good prices. This was a great relief as the service and food at the mercure across the street was bad. You must try the apple pie and menu. We'll done to the owners! Highly recommended.
