Owner description: This small museum at the north end of Sanur Beach evokes a time of innocence and beauty before the introduction of relatively recent laws banning "immodest dress." Even more impressive than the paintings by the Belgian artist of the young Balinese dancer he married and her friends is the small mansion in which the art and artifacts are housed: a lovely example of Balinese architecture decorated with finely carved and gilded wooden shutters.

“Falling apart”
Reviewed 6 July 2013

We wanted to do something cultural, and thought i'd be good to pay the museum a visit.
It's in desperate need of maintenance, and a lot of the paintings are actually replicas. It could have had potential, but the bored staff doesn't seem to really be interested. Not worth it.

“Below expectations”
Reviewed 2 July 2013

I was looking forward to visiting Le Mayeur Museum; however, I was quite disappointed in the actual museum. The grounds and building are not well maintained and the paintings show signs of deterioration from the heat, salt air, and light. On the day we visited, there was no electricity so it was difficult to view the paintings in the darkened rooms. This could be a great museum with an interesting story and great paintings. Sadly, it is not.

“Belgian Heritage”
Reviewed 24 June 2013

Le Mayeur Museum is unfortunately a not well maintained museum, but still is a place where you can see some beautiful paintings from the master.

“Shameful neglect”
Reviewed 13 June 2013

This place could be a gem but it is totally neglected. A shame to let such a heritage just rott away. This could and should be a tourist magnet but the management is totally underwhelming. Right now no need to go.

“A piece of Balinese history.......”
Reviewed 26 May 2013

This was the home of a Belgian artist. His art is beautiful, sensual, colourful and using his young model Balinese Ni Pollak (later became his wife). Their home, now the gallery is well preserved but his art should be kept in controlled atmosphere airconditioning. Some of the paintings due to time and salt damage have faded considerably. We loved this gallery.
