“The Upgrade has Begun”
Reviewed 8 August 2014

I visited this hotel around Christmas 2013 and wrote a not so flattering review, sad as it has always been a favorite of mine. Having just returned from another visit (July 2014), I am very happy to report that the hotel renovations are have commenced. I have added photos of the new style bathrooms and the new coffee shop that is almost finished. If you would like privacy then you should consider one of the cottages, they are secluded away from the main area of the hotel and are set in stunning gardens, with their own pool, cottage 2504 is on the edge of the pool, only downside its a walk to breakfast, however I think there is a good chance the coffee shop my well do breakfast once its up and running. Overall the hotel is lifting it's game with the new room upgrades I see it will return to being one of Balis premier hotels.

Looking great in the main hotel entrance, I would say a five star years ago. Renovation desperately required, toilets do not flush, lighting untrustworthy, wiring dodgy and cockroaches!!! We and many others moved rooms due to state of dis-repair : (. All the rooms needed a deep clean and ee moved three times. The latter to the outer garden ground floor premises, with our private veranda opposite the pools, situated in gorgeous lush green gardens (well tendered), watching fab wildlife. Non alcoholic golf park, BBQ and nightclub across the road.

Beware of hotel Waiting staff, very rude and prejudiced upon serving breakfast with disdain etc!!! Plenty of alternative accommodation further up the beach...
Drinks, and food sold not as what is shown in most pictures, can be hoodwinked easily. Would highly recommend eating out, also drinks cheaper. Hotel department chains are double the price in comparison to outside shops, always barter from half the price tag given-wherever you go.

Green squirrels eating out of your hand, lots of singing parrots, 4ft lizards and wild dogs (beware of rabies & packs), fresh water Koi eating bread out of your hand, sea snakes on the beach (obviously deadly), stingrays, jellyfish, dont forget the mozzie spray, but over all, fabulous wildlife to photograph! Dont forget your camera as the FABULOUS early morning and evening sunsets are incredible. Take waterproof sandals because the sand gets very hot and is a very shelley beach. I didnt find the beach very clean, awash with alot of rubbish and nappies strewn all over : ( Teenagers will love the nightlife on the opposite side of the Island-who must beware of illegal drug use as security is very high.

Wi-fi not free, had to get tokens but didnt always work and kept getting cut off. Try to get tokens from the friendly and helpful taverna bar staff who did look after you and are worth tipping highly. Karaoke always on tap, got a little repetitive at times though, hire a bicycle to go further up the beach to find alternative entertainment and bars, but beware of the pot holes if you go inland. Always compare adventure price tags. Plenty of Designer replicas and artwork to see/buy.

Hire a taxi for a full day for less than 30 dollars to visit the Island, plenty to see, lots of great cultural architecture

Room Tip: Dont be scared to ask for a better room, it is quieter towards the golf course. Can be noisy near t...

The breakfast in the restaurant outside the hotel was excellent but on 1 August we had to eat our breakfast inside the hotel. That was terrible. Overcrowded, a lot of noise, long waiting for eggs etc.

Room Tip: During the night there were several different noises.

We stayed at the Grand Inna in Sanur in June 20104. The hotel itself was as expected for the price. The problem is really the location. It is quite a walk to get the restaurants and shops. I knew this before going but thought we would just catch a taxi whenever we wanted to go anywhere.

Unfortunately, this is not possible as the hotel is nowhere near any roads. It is in the golf course complex and the only way out by vehicle is to hire one of the hotel's drivers at ridiculous prices. We ended up walking everywhere which, with little kids, was a great big pain. It is easily half an hour to get to the heart of Sanur which was a bit tough at the end some of our big days.

The hotel is very average so I would recommend staying somewhere else (it couldn't be any worse for the price) but get a more convenient location. You won't be on the beach but to be honest we only went to the beach once anyway, I would rather have had a bit of a walk to the beach once than a long walk EVERY time we wanted to do anything - Change money - buy water - do laundry - get a massage. It was all a hassle unless you want to pay the higher charges at the hotel - everything is ++ The food at the hotel was average at best.

Forget the tower forget the wing try waking up in a cottage in the gardens away from the main building near the beach. Yes it's old and run down but after doing a loop around Bali we are glad to be back in a lovely garden by the sea. Full breakfast great variety and eat as much as you like.

We have stayed at the above hotel four times over the years. Not as "grand" as it used to be, the great ocean views will never change & the gardens are still like being in paradise. Would we do it again, yes, in a heartbeat. We had a great relaxing holiday and met some wonderful people....

Room Tip: Every room has an Ocean view.

We stayed here for three nights in a cottage. The cottage wasn't big, it was very basic, very worn out and we had quite much small ants running around (didn't want to sit on the couch outside, it was full of them), but as we had read the reviews so we knew what to expect. The area itself was really nice and very peaceful (low season) and most of the time we were the only people in the pool. We didn't go for the hotel breakfast but chose some of the restaurants by the beach. You can find some small shops, a pharmacy and a doctor in the main building (I know this, because I had to see a doctor for some bug bites - she was a lovely lady). We'll probably go again.

Room Tip: Their internet booking doesn't let you book cottage, but you can book a garden wing room and cha...
