Mentari Sanur is strategically located, tucked away down a quiet alleyway and surrounded by beautiful gardens about 300m from the beach.
We had a morning flight and were greeted with a welcome drink as soon as we arrived. Our room still wasn't going to be ready for a couple of hours (which was understandable, we arrived about 4 and a half hours before check in time) so they stored our luggage away whilst we checked out the beach and surrounding restaurants. When we came back our first floor garden view room still was not ready so they upgraded us to a second story pool view room with a great balcony free of charge.
Transport and taxi's are 50m from the hotel and scooter hiring places outside the hotel and in the alleyway. There is also a spa resort in the alleyway and another 2 within 200m. KFC, Police and Dunkin Donuts located 100m in one direction and Mcdonald's 1km the other. Many cheap and tasty restaurants, markets and stalls along the beach down the road. In the hotel across the road from Mentari there is a fantastic spa and fitness centre for 55,000rp a day.
The breakfast was good but could have been better. You had the choice of Indonesian or English breakfast. We mainly had french toast with bacon everyday. The bacon was always too oily or too dry. The coffee was ok, and there was also a mini buffet with yoghurts, bread and spreads, croissants (which were delicious) fresh fruits, Milo cereal and fresh orange and other juices. The restaurant overpriced and never busy. The food was very tasty though and other people staying in the hotel agreed. The alcohol and cocktails were absolutely overpriced by about 3x. All in all the food was great and service terrific.
The service at this hotel is a 10. Although their english wasn't all that great the staff, (everybody including cleaners, gardeners, reception, security, waitresses) were always smiling, waving and saying hello, willing to help and great to chat to. The hotel also has only 28 rooms, so you are really made to feel special whilst there.
The room would have been perfect had the air conditioner not leaked but luckily nothing got wet. The housekeepers clean and replace the towels daily and you have the option of having your linen cleaned everyday or every 3 days. The TV was a good size and you could rent a dvd player for 50,000rp a day.
We loved the pool, even though it isn't deep, there is a massage lady at the hotel and the gardens are absolutely exotic. There could have been more amenities in the room such as coffee, tea, kettle, hairdryer but staff were always happy to lend us or get us drinks. The hotel is also very quiet and a great place to relax.
I would definetely stay here again.
