We stayed here for 5 nights as a family with 2 teenagers. It was great that the kids each had their own room (and a bathroom each!). We were on the 4th floor towards the back of the suites away from the main pool and well away from the kids pool area but the road noise was still quite noticeable at night - I would not like to be in a room at the front. We were impressed when we were taken personally to our suite by the staff member after checking in, and our luggage was delivered promptly too. The suite itself (3 bedroom) was huge, with separate split systems for each area - though the downstairs living area stayed quite cool without it. One of the downstairs bathrooms looked as if it had been recently renovated but the other two were not, though they were ok. The kitchen was basic but the supplied water tank with both hot and cold taps was great. There was a choice of stairs or one of 2 lifts; luckily we were not too close to either (for noise reasons).
Breakfast was a very good selection of hot dishes as well as bread, pancakes, pastries, cereal and fresh fruit. The juices were very fresh. The coffee was okay but the tea was often weak and not nice at all. I did overhear someone ask for a pot of hot water and a teabag so that might have been a better idea! The ceiling fans were always going at full speed, even though it was quite mild weather, which had the effect of making warm dishes cold quite quickly...so we always tried to find a table not directly under one! We had two dinners poolside here and found the food excellent, as was the service; the prices are a little higher than alot of Sanur restaurants but sometimes you just want to stay in, plus you have the convenience of just adding it to your room bill! And love the 4-6pm Happy Hour (especially 2 mocktails for 35,000rp for the kids)! We only ordered room service once, and having been told it would be 15-20 mins (it was just soup and a pot of tea) we waited 45 mins (having called to check on progress after 30 mins) - not impressed. Housekeeping were very thorough and did a great job, cleaning every day.
The back gate was well secured and we appreciated that it was locked at night - if you look along the gang behind there are a lot of locked gates and high walls with spikes/barbed wire/thorny plants on the residences there, so I would suggest this is a wise move. Having said that, maybe 6.30pm would be better than 6pm, as it is still light at 6.30 and it means you can walk into town for a meal after Happy Hour, then taxi back later. Anyway, it is a good shortcut to the main road and Hardys supermarket was excellent and very cheap. Also some great cafes/restaurants within walking distance (such as Cafe Smorgas, Three Monkeys and The Porch Cafe) as well as local markets and reliable money changers (the ones in A/C offices!). It was not too far to walk to the beach (very nice and less hassling than Kuta) but the shuttle service was good too. We also arranged our Waterbom Park tickets from reception at a discount, very efficient as always.
The wifi was a bit slow and we could only have 2 devices connected for free (50,000rp a day for additional devices) but this was ok - we were on holiday, who wants to be 'plugged in' the whole time anyway!
My only suggestions:
-The upstairs ensuite needs a towel ring/rail/hook near the basin area for a handtowel, as currently the only towel rails/hooks are in the adjacent (separate) room which has the toilet and shower.
-A lot of light comes in the triangular window in the loft of the upstairs bedroom from early in the morning - made worse by also being reflected in the large mirror on the wall opposite! I know it is tinted but a way to cover it would be useful (or at least move the mirror!)
-If this didn't wake us, we were woken by the pair of birds flapping against the glass and pecking loudly on the window EVERY morning...maybe put a sloping surface there so they can't perch on the outside windowsill?
These were small glitches in what was overall a very enjoyable stay. Thank you to all the lovely staff!
