Hotel is clean and staff are ok, not over friendly but polite all the same. Room was clean but the breakfast was pretty awful. No problem, we just ate at the crazy parrot (Irish style pub) not far away. Two swimming pools, 10 mins walk from the beach. Hire yoursef a fridge - cold drinks are always a bonus. T.V in your room is mainly unwatchable so a good book would be best. Watch out for the local taxi drivers, they rip you off really badly !!! don't give them chance eh. Bali Hyatt hotel is a short taxi ride away, fantastic place, they love visitors and you are more than welcomed. It is on the beach and they have all day tea, coffee, cocktails and a lovely evening menu - plus nightly entertainment. You can get an all day taxi for just $20, this includes the petrol and the driver, don't pay any more ! Plenty of bars and restaurants around there - enjoy. Beware though, Local stats reported in the Sanur Weekly newspaper state that 54,000 people were bitten last year by dogs (rabies is a problem there), 54,000 is a hell of a lot of bites !!

We enjoyed our stay 2 weeks in January at The Bumas Hotel. Don’t expect any luxuries and you won’t be too disappointed. On the entrance to the Hotel, much more could be done for a first impression, no frontage as such just an old unused tatty grey door with an open reception to the side, covered by plants.

Our room was on the 2nd floor and was enormous with a 4 poster bed, large bathroom with corner bath and a big balcony. The room was cleaned every day, fresh towels and the bed made and turned down. The sheets were rather tatty and towels were grey rather than white - they really need to be renewed and it was a bit off-putting at first, but they were all perfectly clean.

The gardens of the Hotel could do with a major prune as lots of leaves fell into the 2 pools at night and sometimes they weren’t cleared the next day, however, the pools were cleaned most days and sunbeds and towels not a problem. We asked for a safe which was in reception and had to leave a deposit, if you loose the key you don’t get the deposit back, otherwise it was free. We also asked for a fridge which arrived straight away - £3 per day.

There is no bar at the Hotel, just a cold drinks cabinet with cans and bottles of lager in reception. The breakfast wasn’t very inspiring, although you can take your own marmalade etc to the table and they don’t mind; if you ask for Bacon it’s not included in the price. If you go out to the main street there are many cafes, bars, and restaurants; we recommend you turn right and you will almost immediately come across The Mona Lisa, which is a café by day and restaurant by night and was absolutely lovely and cost us about £2 each for full breakfast, and dinner was less than £5 each. Don’t pay for WiFi in the Hotel, most of the cafes/bars have free WiFi and, believe me, there are many to choose from!

There are lots of Laundry signs in the main street, about 12 items of clothing ie trousers, shorts, skirts, tops etc, all perfectly washed, dried and ironed in a day for less than £3 in total - amazing! It did rain while we were in Sanur and we saw the most amazing thunder storms, the hotel grounds flooded and large cat fish were swimming around in the water, apparently they live under the soil and appear when the ground floods, no worries they’re just like big fish!

All of the staff at the Bumas were lovely they couldn’t do enough for us and always acknowledged us in passing. Having given my views of the Hotel and Sanur – yes, I would stay at the Bumas again.

We met a couple staying at the Hyatt Regency at the end of the Beach, we visited their hotel, plush restaurants, pools, enormous beautifully tended gardens and right on the beach, but they paid nearly £1,000 more than us and we had an additional 3 nights in Bali (and an extra night in Singapore). Vis a vie you get what you pay for!

Room Tip: Ask for a corner suite - huge!

we stayed at bumas end of nov for 2 weeks and we both loved it.... yes its 3 star but was perfect for us it was quiet and peaceful, the room was fine and right by the pool we had no problems gettin a sun bed. we was half bored but only really need the b & b cos there are so many lovely bars and resturants just at the end of the street...but the food at the hotel was fine. The only little thing that would help at the hotel would be a bar of some sort !!! they do sell water cola and bottled beer but a little bar would of made it better. The shops are 2 minutes walk from the hotel same with all the bars we loved trying them and some of the local small resturants were fantastic, i loved the food !! It was so relaxing there would go back to bali, and stay at the bumas, mite not be everyones cup of tea but i loved it .....

Room Tip: room 205 so near the pool but most of them are oh do hire a fridge !!!!

having stayed at this hotel from 3/11/11 till 24/11/11 i can only state the truth.
The management and staff are always on hand to assist at any time of day or night.
i really dont understand some of the reviews i have read as the title states you get what you pay for,
ok rooms are basic but are of a great size cleaned every day ,the linen is not truly white but clean, breakfast is basic ( but you can take your own) staff more than happy to cook eggs of any choice you would like.i sat at the breakfast area many mornings and was not rushed quite the opposite i could eat and drink as much as i liked. i would always reccomend a fridge to be placed in your room for the period of your stay. although i did meet 2 english ladies that insisted on taking the sun lounge covers and using 2 instead of 1 this obviously led to a shortage for other users(im english iwas not to pleased about this Shame on them)
ALL IN ALL I WOULD STAY HER AGAIN. FINAL STATEMENT IF YOU ARE GOING TO STAY HERE" EKA "THE MANAGER IS ONE OF THE MOST HELPULL I HAVE EVER COME ACCROSS ON THIS BEAUTIFULL ISLAND. enjoy its well worth it great value basic but a great place to stay and very central.

Room Tip: rooms at the back away from reception are nice and quiet.

I had a pleasant stay in the Bumas for 10 days as part of a package holiday.

The Bumas is not really a hotel at all. It is a bed and breakfast establishment with very basic facilitiies. A hotel would have a bar, a proper restaurant, fridges in the rooms and decent TV's. My room was very clean as were the bedding and towels. The bedding and towells are old, but they are clean. The pillows were shabby and smelled a bit of other peoples occupation. On 4 occasions I had no hot water, including my arrival night, which was not pleasant after travelling for 31 hours. The water pressure was pretty poor from the shower, which seemed a bit odd given that the basin tap was like a geyser.

The staff are simply wonderful and are very sweet and helpful. They always have a smile for you and if you have a problem they are very adept at handling it for you. The amount of times I saw people having a moan abouit the breakfast begars belief. The kitchen staff must be at their wits end having to constantly deal with this problem. I really felt sorry for them. The breakfast was fine for me as all I usually eat is fruit and toast which is always available.

The Bumas is in a great location and has one of Sanurs most famous restaurants at the end of the street. I ate their several times and the food is good and service excellent. A little further along the street to the right of the Bumas their is a little shop and restaurant. Their is also a sweet lady who does laundry at incredibly cheap prices. Look for the 3ft high white board leaning againat a wall listing the laundry prices. To the right of that is an archway leading to private housing. Just go in through the arch and ask the 1st person you see "laundry?" and they will point you in the right direction. A shirt and pair of trousers cost me 50 pence (GBP) and was perfectly cleaned.

The Bumas is in a great location and it is very quiet. The gardens and swimming pools are quite beautiful. The staff are great but this is all let down by the way this place is being run. I would have been happy to have paid a little more for my holiday just to have some better facilities. Such a shame and such a waste. Hopefully a lottery winner will buy it and impove things. I hope so, because the staff deserve better.

Room Tip: Upper floors have larger rooms. No rooms are anything special.

Returned from The Bumas 08.11.11,enjoyed our time there. Its in a good location, just off the main street close to all restraunts, especially Made's!!! which has really good food with excellent sevice and short stoll to the beach. The hotel grounds and gardens are beautiful, rooms basic,no fridges,no safes and only German speaking tv.The staff are very friendly and helpful.Breakfast leaves a lot to be desired, there is toast, rice or noodles and Indonesian pancakes or eggs(only 2 per person either scrambled, fried or boiled :( )some guests had bacon but if you ask for bacon they ask your room number if you have the right number you get the bacon, unfortunatly we didnt get the bacon or an explaination as to why we couldnt have bacon!!!There is a lack of information and notice boards,no menus available for lunch and snacks.Sanur is very cheap to eat out if I returned I would do room only.Dont buy water from the hotel cost is 22000 IDR its only 3000 IDR in the Circle K supemarket across the road!!! Big difference in price for the same item. But what about the BACON,can anyone please explain? We were woken suddenly in the early hours the morning by a crashing sound and something crazily racing around in the ceiling space, bit of a shock,we think it was lizard that lived in that lived in their, maybe he had the BACON !!!
