We went there on our honeymoon! The setting is truly Ubud representative and the villas were awesome! Service and staff very friendly. Spa treatments were also impecable!

Room Tip: ask for rooms overlooking rice fields!

My wife and I vacationed at Villa Semana for five nights in July 2011. We stayed in one of the pool villas and had a lovely time. The rooms were clean and it was great to wake up to our own private pool. Every evening we came back to fantastic turn down service and the staff did everything in their power to make us feel comfortable. One of my favorite activities was sitting down by the river around 4:00 pm with a drink and read and relax as the locals come to bath. It's a truly beautiful and special place.

I visited Villa Semana with my husband and 13 year old daughter in July. We had done some research on Trip Advisor and other sites before deciding on this hotel as we did not want to go to a beach resort or one of those big impersonal hotels. And we were reminded again and again of how right our decision was every day.
The hotel is in peaceful surroundings a little way away from the hub of Ubud town, nestled among paddy fields, the river and the nearby village. While the feel is very rustic the facilities are not. Right from the time we were received at the airport till the drop back 6 days later we were treated as special guests. With just 10 villas, special attention could be paid to each guest.
We stayed in the Kamboja villa, which was spacious enough over two floors to accommodate all of us. The emphasis was on quiet comfort. With a pool and deck chairs outside there was also the chance to have a dip and relax looking out at the clear skies, listening to the rumbling river, the villagers go around their daily tasks and nature at its pristine best. On days we simply did not want to leave the villa at all. But Bali itself is so beautiful and the hotel's tours are well organised.
The hotel provides shuttle services to Ubud and back. On most days this ran like clockwork and gave us ample opportunity to go into town for some shopping or even lunch and dinner. Of course one should not forget that the food at the hotel is special and one should definitely try it more than once. As expected, breakfast is relaxed and extremely generous with the staff fawning over each guest. Juerg, the Swiss owner was also around during our visit and his stories are a treat.
And the spa is to die for. Located by the river bank, one could easily spend hours there indulging in a massage even as the river gurgled by.
However, one word of caution, this is not a hotel for all. To enjoy this little piece of heaven one should like the sound of silence, nature and rustic surroundings. Go for it if this is what you are looking for and you will not regret it. As they say, size does matter. In this case the key word is SMALL!

We stayed here for 2 days in July, and had a fantastic time. The complex is small, with a few traditionally designed villas, all with a high degree of privacy. The staff were extremely polite and accommodating- we appreciated the attention to details (such as the restaurant staff remembering our names and coffee order each day, and frequently enquiring if there was anything else they could do for us).
The spa is set down a steep hill by a large river- it was really quite ideal. The ladies who work there are extremely good at their jobs, and with the sound of the river (often with children playing in it downstream, it was exceptionally relaxing.

We just left Villa Semana and will definitely be back. The staff, the food, the service and the villas were unforgettable. Semana is perfect for couples, but would also be great for families or groups of friends. The tours offered are some of the best in Bali and the guides are incredibly knowledgeable. The staff are some of the kindest and most helpful I have encountered in my stays in Bali. Of all the resorts I have stayed in in Bali this would definitely be the best. Pool Villa, Semana Harmony package at the spa and the walking tour in Ubud are highly recommended.

Bali has an image of beauty and serenity. Much of that is correct. Unfortunately in recent years "discovery" of the island has led to overbuilding, crowding and murderous traffic. Much of it is exciting, but to truly enjoy the experience of Bali, one must find a beautiful, serene corner which reflects all of the charm which Bali still possesses. That corner is without a doubt to be found at Villa Semana. Everything here fits well. From the custom designed villas, which are modern, but not too modern, to the wonderful, thoughtful and considerate staff, to the delicious food and above all to the glorious setting in a small valley over looking the river, with rice paddies on two sides. The hotel was designed perfectly for its setting, with lush vegetation and just the right sort of stone paths which lead you from building to building. The rooms are spacious and well appointed, but also distinctive, with refreshing private pools. . They could not be at a Four Seasons or whatever. They are local culture at its best. The Spa is delightful and outdoor massage above the river is enchanting. The The location is a 15 minute drive to Obud with a friendly and punctual shuttle service. Finishing one's stay at Villa Semana is never to want to leave. I have read most of the reviews and note that they are virtually all enthusiastic. The one or two which are not must be from people who do not understand the importance of taking part in a local culture. This hotel will not remind you of Miami Beach, and for good reason. It will give yo the complete Bali experience. There is no other option in Obud but this one.

We stayed recently at Villa Semana for 3 nights for our 'babymoon' after having a negative experience with another villa close by. We were lucky enough that Semana had one villa still available last minute, and from the moment we arrived there, we couldn't have be happier. It is a gorgeous setting by the river, there is a feeling of peacefulness everywhere on the property. One of the main highlights of the place was the food, the chef was unbelievably talented, every meal was a delight visually and the flavours were incredible. The staff went out of their way to accommodate every request we may have, they truly understand how to look after their guests, nothing we asked for was too much for them. After often hearing 'sorry' at the 2 other places we had stayed at in Bali , where we had experienced many many misunderstanding and mistakes from staff, it was just so refreshing to see the high communication level by staff at Semana. Everything was done correctly the first time. I was also fortunate enough to have an incredible private yoga lesson on the deck next to the river which the resort arranges, the teacher is fabulous. The villa itself was nice. The villa pool was quite small, more of a plunge pool really with a little sun. We used the gorgeous main pool overlooking the river to relax by and swim laps which was ideal as we were the only ones doing so. We would highly recommend Villa Semana, and will certainly be back.
