It is difficult and easy at the same time to write a review of this outstanding resort. Difficult, because everything about this fantastic place has already been written in the countless reviews. Easy, because it is one of those rare places where all the beautiful memories stay with you for a long time.

The place is definitely in total harmony with the nature. It is a cocktail of perfection created by the owner / manager who resides there. In typical Swiss manner he doesn't miss the slightest detail and correct things immediately if necessary. The owner-manager and his team will do anything possible to make your stay as fantastic and perfect as possible. This goes also for the outstanding kitchen. I have tried to eat outside, but gave up, as I didn't believe I could find a better place.

And yes, you will not miss the absence of a TV.

Having experienced resorts like the Ritz Carlton on the coast, the boutique Bale in Nusa in its heyday, private villas in Jimbaran and ubud, organic retreats int he hills like Bagus Jati, we have finally found our home which combines the best elements of Balinese experiences in a reasonably priced establishment.

Unlike more local villas s et ups, the cleanliness and hygine is at the level of 5 star resorts. Sure you'd have the experience of some bugs as its right amongst the padis and jungle, but it comes with the territory togetherr with local flora and fauna which is in beautiful abundance at the foot of the villa and int he beautifully maintained property.

The 15 min regular shuttle to ubud and back is perfect as everything in town including cheap eats and massages if you desire, is easily accessible but one returns with a short hop to your own private mecca in villa semana nestled amongst the padis in its secure privacy.

For the adventerous, a cycle with Jurg around the ubud villages is a great way to experience and see the more rustic aspecsts of traditional bali even whilstt he center of ubud town is flooded with tourists and day trippers of all shapes and sizes and colours, just make sure that you book a spa after especially useful for city slickers like me!

The spa is outstanding. Few words can discribe except one has to try the samena harmony.

Thanks jurg and all the villa samena team.

We will be back.

Very calm and private setting, with the purest possible air.
Outstanding and highly attentionate service.
Food is also very good and not too pricy.
Ideal place if you need a moment of calm to recharge away from home...

Location of Villa Semana is outside of Ubud. Next to the Ayan river in the middle of rice paddies. I personally like the more quiet location comparing to being in the middle of busy Ubud.

They have fantastic chef in the restaurant. Food is always fresh and delicious. It is more expensive than eating in Ubud, but I still strongly recommend to use hotel restaurant for lunch and dinner. Breakfast is included in the room price and is also delicious.

We also took a cooking class, which was great experience. Just two of us and chef preparing multiple meals.

Spa is located down at the river in very relaxing surrounding. Massages are fantastic. Strongly recommend.

All staff is super friendly and attentive. Exactly the Balinese hospitality you would want.

The only negative is the owner of the hotel (Jurg from Switzerland). He loves to come during meals, stand above your table and keep talking. He really likes to talk about himself. And most of the stories are weird. He is the type of guy who did everything and did it the best. He is an army. He is flying reconnaissance missions. He flies his own airplanes. He is car racing. He is killing snakes with his own hands. He is stopping random people on Bali and taking their car keys and later finding out they are chief of police.. omg your head will spin just listening to that.

All we wanted to enjoy the piece and quiet of Bali. We also did another mistake and took a bicycle trip with the same owner. We do not recommend this activity. We choked on motorcycle fumes riding the bikes on very busy streets. My wife didn't ride very fast on the bike and the owner didn't wait for us at the next turn. We missed that and ride for little bit more. Then stopped and hoped that owner will turn back and find us. At the end we found him, but instead of apologizing he got angry and said it was our mistake that we didn't turn left. That was a shocker for me as I would always expect that the guide cannot be showing off and ride fast and not wait for slower riders.

Well he just care repeating that it is our fault and not his. Similar things happened during the stay. One day the internet was down whole day. I told the owner about that and he argued that it is not true. Later he realized that he is using different connection (his private line) and Internet will be fixed in few minutes. It took another 5 hours and few reminders.

I think the hotel is great in general, but the owner should stop arguing and listen to guests. I feel bad, because all the employees are great. I would give 5 stars to employees and 1 star to owner.

Villa Semana is magical, beautiful and peaceful ! My friends and I had a memorable and relaxing stay in Dec. The location is ideal (short drive from Ubud) and the grounds and surroundings are stunning and beautiful. The villas are private, quiet and very comfortable with its own swimming pool. The restaurant serves excellent food with a lovely view. The staff are friendly, attentive and helpful. Everything has been meticulously and very tastefully thought through and it is obvious that nothing has been left to chance. Impeccable service, good management plus the beautiful scenery made the stay in Villa Semana truly magical !

I had the extreme good fortune of being invited to attend a party at Villa Semana recently in order to celebrate a friend's birthday. While I live in Ubud, it was the first time I had taken the opportunity to visit Villa Semana. From the moment you turn off the main road and on to the private drive way leading down to the Villa you are enveloped by the very special magic of Bali, a picture-perfect postcard view of pristine terraced rice fields, cascading river, bordering jungle, tropical birds and exotic flowers. The staff meet you at the top of the drive and lead you down the steps past koi and lotus ponds to an enclave of peace and quiet serenity. The party was held at Villa Cempaka and absolutely everything about the villa, the service and the food were absolutely perfect. The manager and staff go out of their way to ensure you have everything necessary to make your visit truly special. If you are looking for a quiet and comforting retreat from a busy and often times hectic world, look no further ... Villa Semana is an exceptional place.

Room Tip: Villa Cempaka is secluded and private with it's own pool and terraced gardens overlooking the ri...

I live in Ubud, and come to VS occasionally for a meal or party or just to have a drink in their riverside private pavilion. Having not been for several months, just wanted to confirm, they are still serving some of the food in hotel land here. It's a special place for a special meal, and if you are in residence, you are even luckier. Staff is routinely great, and the manager/host is unfailingly entertaining....there is a resident cat who also makes things special. highly recommended.
