We opted for the Deluxe Villa with a sharing pool. This is a two storeyed villa with a traditional gate, separating it from the other villas and common areas. This is one of four villas that are around a sharing pool. Very convenient as you can step right out of the pool into your villa. It is also very close to the resort spa.

There is a small bed on the ground floor, and a master bed with mosquito nets on the first floor. There is a TV, air conditioning, bed side tables, pool facing windows, and a diwan with cushions on the first floor. There is a mini bar, coffee unit and semi open bathroom on the ground floor. Perfect decor and ambience.

Though it is said that 2 couples could stay in this villa, I would say that it is best for one couple. There is only one bathroom, and no separation between the two bedrooms. It could also be for 4 adults, or for a couple with 2 kids.

The package deal offered complimentary breakfast, afternoon tea and snack, rice paddy trekking, free shuttle to and from Ubud centre and a 30 min full body balinese massage for each person. You can choose between 4 different kinds of breakfast: English, Balinese, Indonesian and Sungu breakfast. Each breakfast offered a juice, a fruit platter, a main dish and choice of hot beverage – Nescafe, Bali Coffee or tea. The free shuttle is a boon as there is no local transport other than taxis. There is a locker facility at the lobby, not in the villa/rooms.

The staff at Sungu are extremely helpful, welcoming and always smiling.

Everything was extremely clean including the villa, the pool, the spa and the restaurant.

Payment is accepted in USD as well as IDR. Change will be given in IDR.

The Sungu resort and Spa hotel is a lovely place located very close to Ubud but in a very quite area. A shuttle is proposed whenever you need to go downtown. Just behind the hotel, the rice fields provide peace, beautiful and restful views.
The rooms are very nice and comfortable ; breakfast is excellent as well as the meals proposed at the restaurant. The staff is really friendly, always available and doing their best to satisfy your needs.
The Sungu is a very good place to spend a few days around Ubud.

We stayed here for 2 nights with our 2 children aged 3 and 7 after a few hectic days in Kuta and, as others have said, it is definitely a haven of peace and tranquility. Deluxe bungalow by the pool was beautiful and spotless. Huge outdoor bathroom. Stunning pool, enjoyed afternoon tea round it with some other families. Staff very gently, friendly and welcoming. We ate in the restaurant a couple of times and the food was very tasty. Shuttle service into town is great and very quick and convenient. They pretty much drop you where ever you are going. Enoyed the walk round the rice paddy. Ubud is wonderful.

The Sungu is a lovely hotel with separate bungalows in a landscaped tropical garden. Because the hotel is set about 10 minutes drive outside the noisy and crowded city center, it is a haven of tranquility and beauty. The lovely staff gets to know the guest well and makes you feel welcome. Without exception, they have a pleasant and helpful demeanor and are ready to assist you with advice and transportation. Excellent van service is provided to the center of town, money changer, and tourist sights and shopping, at the guest's request. I used the van daily to take me to and from the town center for shopping and sightseeing, and to the four local museums. The restaurant meals were simple, fresh, and beautifully presented. They will customize for a vegetarian. As other reviewers have described, my room was in a separate bungalow with access to the private pool and it had the dramatic and elegant big bed with the mosquito netting canopy, and the outdoor tub and shower. The air conditioning worked well and effective mosquito coils were set up in the bathroom in the late afternoon during turn-down service, Fresh flowers in the room had a lovely scent and fresh fruit and complimentary bottled water were provided. I also had the excellent complimentary 30 minute massage. Additional highlights were the pool-side lesson I took in creating a palm leaf offering arrangement and the early morning rice paddy walk. WiFi was included. Visually, The Sungu is a charming boutique hotel that provides a relaxing experience unlike noisy, corporate, glossy hotels with shiny brass accoutrements. I requested an airport pickup; the driver, I Made Sarma, was so nice that I used him a few times for longer excursions and sightseeing.

Set away from the bustle of Ubud main streets. The Sungu was a peaceful haven. The Staff were extremely welcoming yet it felt very private and personal at the same time. Upon arrival we were upgraded from the basic room to one near the private pool (for use of on 4 Villas). We had a complimentary 30 minute massage (basic to my standards but pleasant all the same). Each afternoon we were served different afternoon tea that we chose to eat poolside. I loved the beautiful salt water pools and comfortable bed. I was grateful for the special little touches we received each day. I think this hotel is Balinese owned and they have done a great job. Could do with some extra maintenance here and there and the Massages could be a lot better but I would definately recommend to couples or families looking for a quite and friendly haven near the rice fields.
