“Wonderful oasis”
Reviewed 6 January 2014 via mobile

We came from Nusa Dua to Ubud, after being quit disappointed with the hotel and surroundings there. We were recommend by the taxi driver to go to a road were they had small nice cottages. After looking around a bit we found this place and it was fantastic. Small authentic cottages with view over the rise fields. For us coming from Europe, this was what we had imagined Bali to be all about. The breakfast were delivered at your porch at any time of your choice by the very friendly staff. We were meant to stay for 2 days, but loved the place south that we stayed an extra 3 days. If you want to relax this is the perfect place to be. Great value for money.

The location of Villa Chempaka is great, its on Jalan Bisma (a parallel street to Monkey Forest Road), and just 5 minutes walking distance away from the centre of Ubud. On Jalan Bisma, a couple of nice restaurants and places to stay at, the further south, the quieter it gets.

The bungalows are comfortable and clean, with a nice balcony (where you get breakfast) with a view over the rice fields. The pool is small but nice, and staff is very friendly and hospitable.

Overall, great value for money, and a perfect location.

After weeks of hotel research and emails back and forth, we finally came accross Villa Chempaka on Agoda. This hotel was indeed the perfect find and exceeded our expectations! The reception area is very simple but wait til you see the rest! The villa has 10 private and beautiful Balinese style cottages with attached bathrooms, A/C, ceiling fans, safe boxes and coffee & tea making pots.

Each cottage has a nice private verandah where the staff delivers your complimentary full breakfast while you enjoy your "piece of heaven" admiring the rice fields, birds, garden, and small pool - it's simply a very peaceful setting away from all noise. Breakfast consists of eggs (any style), toast, fruit, juice, tea or coffee.

The charming staff was very courteous, friendly and efficient. We'll definitely stay here again and highly, highly, recommend this unpretentious yet very tranquil little village. We will always have great memories of this Bali stay.

Room Tip: Select cottages down by pool area or past the pool area. These are very nice! Everything is super...

I stayed here 5 years ago and had very fond memories. This time l came with my parents for 4 nights. It is still the same relaxing, informal property. The staff are lovely and just gently go about their business but are there to help if needed. Nice to retreat here after a hetic day out. The bungalows are a good size and nice to sit out on your own verandah and look at rice fields. The road is now paved which is great. I had to go to the dentist on my last day in the afternoon. Staff were happy for us to stay on in one of the rooms until later in the afternoon. Enjoyed visiting Lillys spa just up the road. Had aroma massage, pedicure and Facial, all very enjoyable. I recommend this place to anyone that needs some down time. There is no television but is such a nice change with out it. I feel like l experienced a little bit of the real Bali and it's hospitality.

This was a very well maintained, peaceful oasis from the bustle of the main streets in Ubud. Situated so close to Monkey Forest Rd, yet views of the rice paddy fields from the villa balcony gave it a rural feel.
The staff were lovely, and the rooms kept very clean and welcoming, with a lovely red hibiscus flower on the pillows, and desk-top, and bathroom.
We loved the atmosphere and location, and found the bedroom and bathroom up to standard, and hope to return to this place again soon !
Travel Tip: If you're a light sleeper, take some ear plugs, as the chorus of frogs during the night can be quite loud in the wet season anyway.

Stayed here two times 2011 and 2012 for a couple of days because of the quiet location and the great view on a ricefield and the sunset.
Spacious rooms with an Indonesian touch, friendly staff. The pool is more a plunge pool but is okay.
In the evening you can sit on your balcony and listen to the sounds of crickets, cikcaks, geckos etc, No screaming cocks or roaring motorbikes.
It is a bit of a walk to monkeyforest-road, but you (illegally?) can take a 3 min shortcut via Nicks pension
Breakfast served on you balcony and okay.
Wifi is best near the lobby and in the last there bungalows.

Room Tip: The last bungalows are best for view and wifi

Villa Chempaka is located within easy walking distance of Ubud township, yet has a rural feeling looking out into rice paddies and far enough back from the noise of motorbikes on the main streets. Set in beautiful tropical gardens. The villas are well appointed, each with private balconies on which the included breakfast is served. Airconditioning and fans very effective. Free wifi. Nice swimming pool. Good security in rooms- very solid in-room safe, two locks on all windows and three locks on door.15 min walk to Sacred Monkey Forest by back street through paddy fields. Close to many nice restaurants. Staff friendly, modest and eager to please- gave us fresh coconut juice to drink from coconuts we saw them knocking down. Transfer to airport arranged by staff- used reliable service. I can highly recommend this place to stay.

Room Tip: The swimming pool is outside 2 of the 10 villas- might be wise to ask for a room not by the pool, al...
