I stayed 2 nights in Kubu Saren as a female solo traveller (this time 5 weeks in Indonesia)
Since there was no available room at Dewi Ayu (across the street), paid 110 000 IDR for a night. The room is upstairs (2 rooms with a nice huge balcony), facing to Monkey Forest Road, spacious, clean, with nice bathroom and hot water. The staff is helpful and nice, however it was not always easy to reach them in the early morning (around 7-7.30 am.) to get breakfast.
Although it is on Monkey Forest road directly (there is a textile-art shop as well downstairs) , you can get a good night sleep, because there is no traffic at night at that part of the road. However, you need quiet mate in the next room, since the walls are paperthin between the two rooms (first night there was a couple, listening music until midnight).
If there is a heavy rain (and it happens often in the wet season), the water comes freely into the room under the slide doors, so do not leave anything on the floor or do not take the room of you are not ready for the experience. After the storm, the staff comes without question (routine?:) to dry it up.
No swimming pool. but good location.
