“A reason to come back in Bali”
Reviewed 22 September 2013

We are a couple that have have first booked at Komaneka at Tanggayuda for one week during August 2013.
After the disappointment from our suite there (see my review for Komaneka at Tanggayuda) they have transferred us at Komaneka at Bisma.

(+)Our suite was what we have dreamed of. Very nice view of the forest as well as of paddies. Very spacious and nicely furnished. Very clean, always we had fresh fruits and water in the room. The staff is very polite, the shuttle service is very convenient.
We loved the coffee time in the afternoon as well as the spa service.
We also has a very difficult day from food poisoning from a local restaurant and the staff was very helpful.

(-)The breakfast could be better. We had to select from menu. No buffet so no variety. If you stay there for one week as we did you get a little bored.
The wi-fi connection was not good at the hotel. We could do only basic things.
We would definitely return at Komaneka at Bisma!

The hotel is close to the Ubud markets and the 'heart' of Ubud but is so incredibly serene and beautiful. The hotel staff are almost all Ubud locals and have the true Balinese spirit. During a casual conversation with the hotel manager he discovered I was covered in insanely itchy bites and he mentioned the locals usually use eucalyptus oil to soothe the itch. I was shocked the next morning when another staff member arrived at our table at breakfast with a bottle for me to borrow for the remainder of our stay. The rooms are enormous and beautifully detailed. The staff are so genuinely welcoming and happy, and greet you with a 'welcome home' every time you return from your wanders around Ubud - they genuinely want you to feel comfortable and 'at home' while on your holiday. I really can't say enough good things about this hotel - I'd definitely stay there again.

We enjoyed staying here. The rooms we extremely lovely and spacious, great range of room and bathroom accessories. Very cute turn down service. The grounds were magnificent and created a tranquil setting. The shuttle service to town was a blessing and was no trouble todrop you off near your destination

This was our second stay at Komaneka Bisma and we are not sorry we returned. The staff remembered us from our previous visit and attended to all our needs offering us a personalised service. We spent most of our time at the resort not wanting to leave this paradise in Ubud. My family had a great time here - the restaurant and spa were super, and the staff of Komaneka are all so friendly and polite. We will surely return to Komaneka ASAP!

Room Tip: We had a family pool villa and it was great.

This Hotel is truly the most AWASOME home away from home!! It is super tranquil, beautiful, peaceful with absolute competent staff. The staff is totally involved with you - so much so that they even remember what you ordered for dinner the previous day. They know and remember your name from the moment you walk in.
The unique setting in the forest with the rice paddies is not to be found anywhere else in the world. This was my fourth return to this Hotel - i will go back over and over. This is beyond 5-star - at affordable rates. You can pick between hi-end rooms, villas or family vilas.
The luxurious SPA overlooks a flowing mountain river. You literally are on a overhang over the river. Once again the best setting and service EVER.

Room Tip: Standard rooms are super but if you need absolute privacy, take a villa.

My husband and I left this resort feeling as if we needed to give back to them somehow. I wanted to open a TripAdvisor account specifically to account all the wonderful details of our stay so that the Komaneka folks understand how much we appreciated their service and accommodation.

We originally booked a pool villa at the Komaneka at Monkey Forest and upon our arrival, the receptionist asked if we’d like to be upgraded to their Bisma location (we were celebrating our anniversary). They showed us photos of the newer resort and we jumped at the offer. They loaded our luggage in their van and drove us to the Bisma – we were a bit weary at first being that the location was a lot further than we had in mind – but this worry was soon put at ease.

Upon arrival, we were handed welcome drinks and told to sit down and relax while they get our paperwork in order. We roamed the gorgeous lobby and were in awe by the fantastic views. There were fruits and candy laid out for all to enjoy. Once everything was in order, the kind lady carted us to our intimate pool villa and gave us a tour of our temporary home. The infinity pool, THE VIEW, outdoor kitchen, small dining table with local fruits and jar of homemade cookies, state of the art TV with great selection of movies, canopy bed, his and hers sink space, huge standalone bath tub, rain shower and even an outdoor shower.. IT WAS MORE THAN WE COULD EVER ASK FOR. And the amenities were so lush.

We definitely took advantage of what the room had to offer. A candle lit bath with the bath salts and bath foam provided. Midnight dips in our infinity pool while looking up at the gorgeous sky full of stars. After a full day out in the city, we’d come back with the canopy let down on our bed with nightgowns laid out for us to wear. They even put a simple love note and single rose encouraging a romantic night in each night.

We had breakfast as part of our package and each morning there was a delicious spread of local fruits, basket full of pastries, a selection of main dishes ranging from American to traditional Balinese. It also included fresh juice and French press coffee. We opted to have dinner there one night where the chef prepared a traditional Balinese dinner that included a duck that had been roasted for 8 hours with various accompanying side dishes. The presentation was beautiful. Not only that, they took advantage of the fact that they knew our whereabouts, so when we headed back to our room after dinner, we found a delicious cake waiting for us with a sweet handwritten note congratulating us on our anniversary.

Apart from all the lovely service already, they offer free shuttle service to three locations around Ubud with a printed time schedule that they adhere to. It goes every hour and alleviates the long walk to the town center. SO CONVENIENT. Since we pre-booked all our tours and transfers, the pick-up location had changed since we switched hotels. Not a problem. We just went to the front desk and they handled everything so perfectly. They called the Monkey Forest hotel and our tour and transfer operators to make sure that everything went on without a hitch.

And finally the best part that really touched us. We had to check out incredibly early due to our morning flight so the front desk asked if we’d like any breakfast ready for us. We had the option of getting it delivered to our room to eat while we get ready, or packed up to eat on the airport transfer ride. They asked what we wanted and we just told them a box of pastries would be fine. (We had it at their dining room and they were splendid and plentiful.) We insisted that would be enough. However, the next morning, they packed us not only two boxes of pastries, but also two boxes of fruit, two boxes of Indonesian “pate chauds”, two boxes of crustless bacon/tomato/egg sandwiches (that were so delicious) and two waters and orange juices. WHAT. It was two shopping bags loaded with glorious goodies to munch on. On top of that, they handed us another small bag and congratulated us again on our anniversary and thanked us for choosing to stay at Komaneka. When I opened the ribbon-wrapped presents at home, they were two beautifully woven Balinese scarves.

We’ve experienced great service at other hotels before, but this was on another level. The small touches here and there made us feel that they really cared about us - like we were guests in their own home. They went out of their way to ensure that we left on the absolute best note and we weren’t let down a single moment during our entire stay. BTW, for reference, we’re somewhat of hotel snobs and only stay at 4*+ hotels when we travel. Bali was also the third leg of our trip – we previously went to Bangkok, Singapore and then Hong Kong afterwards. Honestly, we regretted not ending the trip in Bali – could’ve used another week there!

THANKS SO MUCH to the folks at KOMANEKA. The way that you run your hotel is top-notch. You really made our trip ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE!

Room Tip: Pool villa #102 - can't go wrong!
