I stayed in Villa Sarna in Feb 2012.

Villa Sarna didn't give me a good impression right from the start. The journey from the airport at Depansar took about an hour and a half. And then, whilst Villa Sarna was located right in the middle of nowhere, instead of being really quiet, there was a very loud and irritating sound of someone cutting down trees nearby. ALL day. It was exasperating.

We escaped by taking the shuttle to town.

However, as dusk fell and we returned to Villa Sarna, it transformed into a most charming oasis. Apart from the sounds of crickets singing and toads croaking, it was really peaceful and quiet.

Each room in Villa Sarna is a little standalone hut. We had one right at the corner but I had the impression that most rooms were pretty private. There was a bed/ lounge chair right in front of ours which was fantastic.

Our stay was not without its fair share of troubles though. We had the aircon dripping with water one morning. And then an army of ants carried a dead cockroach right by our door on another morning.. and we had no water in our room on our last night in Bali. It was very difficult to brush and wash without any water.. and worse.. it was impossible to go to the bathroom.. And of course, throughout our stay, the tree cutting noises continued every morning and afternoon.

But the peaceful surroundings each evening, the wonderful breakfast every morning.. and the very friendly staff at Villa Sana made it impossible for me to like the place.

The breakfast every morning was also pretty good. Ask for the mini donuts - they are my favourite part of the breakfast every morning.

Thank you for the Tripadvisor Review that has been given. We're so glad to know you enjoyed our peaceful surroundings, breakfasts, and the warm hospitality of our staff. That is what we strive for at Villa Sarna. I do want to apologize for and address some of the issues that were encountered during the stay. Most of the issues were beyond our control, but we do all we can to make sure all guests' stays are as wonderful as can be and do whatever we can to rectify any problems that may arise.

Regarding the 1.5 hour trip from the Airport to our hotel, there is no way around that. That roughly is the amount of time it takes from the Airport to our hotel and basically all hotels/villas in Ubud and the surrounding areas. According to the blog, it seems that the guest had a long 12 hour flight and I can imagine how tiring it must be to land after such a long flight and then have to drive another long distance, but that simply is the time it takes for anybody who travels from the airport to Ubud.

Regarding the tree-cutting on one of the days, we apologize for the inconvenience. It is not a regular occurrence at all, and very rarely a neighboring village makes some noise and we try to tell them to keep the volume down as much as possible. But there is only so much we can ask of people on other properties. We are sorry for this, but we assure guests that this tree cutting in the neighboring village is not normal at all. Regarding the cricket and frog sounds in the evenings, most guests actually enjoy and appreciate them, as we are in the middle of nature and is one of the beautiful aspects about our location.

Regarding the ants, as I just mentioned, we are in nature and we cannot control ants from scurrying in the outdoors. As was mentioned in the review, the insects were outside the villa and not inside. All our villas are regularly cleaned and fumigated for such insects, and there are no such issues inside our villas.

With regards to not having water for a short while on one of the nights, we sincerely apologize for that. We are at the mercy of the town water supply and on rare occasions, the town has issues with the water supply and it affects us and neighboring areas. Again, this is a rare occurrence and we do all we can to alleviate such inconveniences for all guests.

We do want to thank the reviewer for their comments and we really appreciate all feedback. Barring the slight hiccups, we are glad that they enjoyed their stay and our hospitality and we welcome them and all guests back very soon in the near future. Thank you.

AC room was immaculate, comfortable. Great bathroom, nice porch. Nice to have room service for dinner. Breakfast area is scenic and quiet. Staff was helpful and efficient. The prearranged shuttle from the airport, in combination with the customs "expediter" service, worked as advertised. Glad to have such a good restaurant on site, since there is nothing else nearby.

The shuttle to Ubud takes more than the advertised 15 minutes...perhaps 25 in traffic, and it's not a relaxing trip, since they are moving with a sense of urgency. We enjoyed our stay at Villa Sarna but were glad that we balanced our time by also staying at another place right in Ubud, on Monkey Forest Road.

Room Tip: Vishnu room was very nice. No complaints.

This is a very well managed hotel that provides good value. We ordered dinner from the associated restaurant nearby and ate in the library/bar --all told a first class experience. The service and attention to detail are impressive and the setting lovely. Only downside is the commute into Ubud 15 to 20 minutes. Free shuttle service is provided.

This was my umpteenth trip to Ubud, and I am so glad I chose to stay at Villa Sarna. Yes, it is about a 15 - 20 minute drive from the center of Ubud (due in part to the heavy traffic on a main street in Ubud), but Ubud has become so crowded and well on its way to being over commercialized that it has lost a lot of its charm (for me). The beauty and the tranquility of Ubud-that-used-to-be can be found at Villa Sarna.

Transport is only a problem if you make it one. The hotel has a shuttle that leaves every 2 hours (9:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m.) and does an in-town pick up on the half hour if requested (11:30 a.m. - 9:30 p.m.) If you want to return to the Villa earlier, just hire one of the many people in Ubud asking if you want "transport". Just be sure to take a Villa Sarna business card with you in case your driver needs guidance to this out of the way retreat.

My particular "villa" did not have a balcony. (I was in Sarasweti.) I was told that of the 7, only 2 do. I did have an additional room off of the bedroom, though, with easy chairs, fridge, a few decorative pieces of furniture. Very comfortable.

The staff is wonderfully friendly and helpful. I returned to the villa rather late by private transport one evening and was met at the entry by one of the gentlemen working there. Although the walkway was well lit, he escorted me to my room with a flashlight. I felt well cared for. :)

Breakfasts are lovely.

Highly recommended.

Huge room with breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside. We experienced good service and ate some amazing meals at the restaurant. The resort is small and private and exquisitely manicured. We got to meet all the other guests during our short stay, but equally could have avoided them without much trouble if we had chosen.
A couple of gripes: our walk in wardrobe smelt a bit musty and the some of the fixtures and fittings in the room were a tad dated/ not quite 5 star; the apartments are a 20 minute drive from the (tourist) centre of Ubud. The latter actually worked out well for us as it meant we had true rest and relaxation, but it did make going out for dinner difficult. (There is a free shuttle bus that is as punctual as a Swiss train and runs every two hours.)
These really are minor gripes for me, but may be important to other people. I would definitely return.

Our stay at Villa Sarna was the highlight of our 10 day vacation! The grounds were very well kept. The gardens and view were so beautiful and made for a tranquil setting. After time in Seminyak and Kuta the peaceful location was welcome. While it is a distance from Ubud, the hotel provides a shuttle every 2 hours which we found perfect for dinner. The drivers were very obliging taking us to which ever location we wanted and picking us up in the same spot. It is near rice terraces which makes it a good place to begin sight seeing. Breakfast was very good.
As for service, it was so good that they went to Ubud in search of Aloe Vera for the sunburn my boyfriend got in Seminyak. When they could not find it the driver called the front desk and asked them to tell us. They came to the pool to tell us and then the driver called himself when he returned. I think they went beyond expectations in all respects.
I would recommend Villa Sarna to anyone and would go back in a heartbeat!
