We stayed 5 nights/6days in the Saraswathi suit and it was so much better than we imagined. The pictures on the web just didn’t do the place justice. The entire property was just gorgeous will its landscaping and fountains, and the view we had was unbeatable. Our room was very clean, spacious, and beautifully decorated.
Yes it is a bit far from Ubud (15-20 minutes by car/bike) it was well worth it. They have shuttle to and from Ubud every two hours and we found the drivers can easily be persuaded to pick you up at specific times if you asked them nicely and maybe gave them a small tip. We rented a motorcycle which was rather inexpensive (arranged by the hotel) and that gave us much more freedom to explore.
Villa Sarna had once been a private villa and perhaps that’s why we found that certain aspects of it were still not run like a usual hotel. The staff were all too happy to accommodate any request we made of them and overall it felt like we were guests at some lovely host’s home. Whisky the resident dog was such a delight to have around. We were always greeted and accommodated with big smiles whatever time of day or night it was.
The hotel however does not do any of their cooking in house and orders food from the café up the road. The food was quite good but the breakfast was rather basic but tasty.
If we visit Ubud again we are definitely staying here!

Villa Sarna is a converted private residence. The feel of a private tropical retreat remains and is reflected in the service - we felt like honoured house guests rather than mere hotel clients. All the staff were wonderful with our 12 month old boy (note that being on a steep hillside, the grounds are not really "toddler safe" but with careful monitoring this was not an issue for us).

The hotel cars and drivers are a notable feature. As well as providing a regular shuttle to Ubud, a driver is available for tailored excursions for a nominal hourly fee. We took a five hour tour, stopping in villages and temples and up to view the volcano national park. The driver was very friendly and informative and fantastic with our child.

Room service meals are provided by a restaurant on the entry road. Quality food at reasonable prices.

Excellent service with a warm and welcoming staff. The hotel set-up gives a feeling of exclusivity as though you were a guest in a rich friend's home. Exceptional value for the price and location, although a bit far from the center of the city, gives one a true experience of the mountains/forest of Bali. I recommend Villa Sarna to everyone with the exception of those who may have difficulty climbing the stairs.

We just returned from a lovely stay at Villa Sarna staying in the Ganesha Suite (3 nights). Two extra beds were placed in the room to house the 4 of us (2 adults + 2 kids ages 9 and 13). The Suite was huge - even with the 2 extra beds we had plenty of space. Decoration of the rooms and gardens is beautiful and every thing is very well maintained (spotless). I can't emphasize enough how nice the decor and gardens are. A definite 5 star appear to the facilities. Their website has a video of the property and it is spot on accurate.
The Villa is located a bit out of town and is not walking distance to Ubud but the Villa operates a shuttle to Ubud several times per day leaving every 2 hours starting at 9am with pick-up also provided on the 1/2 hour (9:30, 11:30, etc). We found this very efficient and easy to work with. Takes about 20-30 minutes to get to Ubud proper but this is highly traffic dependant of course. We found that being away from things was very welcome and the setting for Villa Sarna makes a lovely escape from all the hustle and noise in Ubud and the South Bali area in general.
Our kids loved the pool - while small it was refreshingly cool and big enough to allow the kids room to splash and play. The veranda pool side is very large and shaded so it's a great place to relax - we had dinner by the pool which was great. All the meals were delicious and prices are very reasonable. Breakfast is a real highlight.
We hope to return to Villa Sarna in the future. It's a great value and I highly recommend for families - always hard to find nice places that will house a family of 4 in one room in Asia. This place is a real treat.

Following the winding roads into Ubud, Villa Sarna was definitely an oasis! Having initially been nervous about its proximity outside of downtown, we were rewarded with amazing and tranquil views of the picturesque green valley, not to mention a beautiful and modern villa where we stayed. The staff was so accommodating, providing shuttle service to and from the Jl Monkey Forest, amazing breakfasts, and leaving not for want of anything during our stay. Top it off with Whiskey, the resident golden retriever, and it was a welcome home away from home during our stay. The highlight of our trip- can't wait to return!

Many positives: The grounds are spectacular; varied and lush plantings, exotic and elegant statuary and a small but beautiful pool and poolside seating area. We made sure we spent at least several hours each day enjoying this lovely oasis. The accommodations are also varied and are well-built, well-designed and very well maintained. All are named after deities. We stayed in Sita for two nights, went away for two nights to the coast, and returned to spend four nights in Arjuna. Both were spacious, elegantly furnished and very comfortable. As we prefer well- ventilated spaces, we especially enjoyed the many opening windows and also the large decks with comfortable seating. There are spectacular views from windows and decks on the hillside on which Villa Sarna is perched over to the opposite hillside. We loved the comparative quiet after a day in vibrant, busy Ubud. All staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly, without being intrusive. One evening, when my husband returned from Ubud with a cut toe, two staff members soon arrived at our villa with a huge first aid kit and proceeded to take over from me cleaning and patching him up. The property does not feel small but Villa Sarna is a comparatively small resort, a size we often look for as we find guests are more likely to socialize a bit in a more intimate environment. And indeed, we enjoyed pleasant discussions with interesting people while still maintaining a great deal of privacy. Taking breakfast together with other guests on the open air breakfast area was a particular pleasure as was sharing space and stories on the van rides to and from Ubud. Villa Sarna is a 20 minute van ride outside of Ubud and that may deter some guests. We did find Bali roads, and Bali drivers, made for some hair-raising journeys. However Villa Sarna maintains a crew of drivers, all of whom slowed down when we asked; indeed all were most accommodating in every respect. There are regularly scheduled shuttles to and from Ubud and, in addition, additional pick-ups were easily arranged. The few occasions when we hired other drivers were not as satisfactory; for example we were often subjected to fairly persistent sales pitches . (one driver even asked, as soon as we met, for our email address) Meals were good but a bit limited. Although the included breakfast was delicious, especially he banana pancakes, we felt a bit more variety was needed; for example, we'd have liked plain yogurt and granola. And although the few meals we had at Villa Sarna were delicious and beautifully presented, they come from a restaurant a few minutes drive away. Villa Sarna does not prepare meals other than breakfast. However we were delighted to travel daily to the culinary, cultural and commercial delights of Ubud. We'd love to return again to Ubud, and to Villa Sarna.

We stayed at Villa Sarna for 3 nights...and wanted to stay longer! We even considered delaying our flight back home just to stay an extra night. All of the staff were warm and hospitable. Sarah the manager was most helpful and accommodating. Always happy to help and always delivered with a nice friendly smile. The Brahma room where we stayed was heavenly. Our very own balcony and beautiful amenities. Having only 7 rooms made it secluded and almost felt like our own private villa. We almost don't want to spread the word how fantastic Sarna is - in case they'll be fully booked out for our next stay!

Highly recommended for those who wish to get out of the main area of Ubud. Sarna have a regular shuttle service.
