“Grew to 'love' this place, just give me a bottle of bleach and a scrubbing brush”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 August 2014

This is a funny place to review because there are good points and seriously bad points.
Oh there are 3 Arjana properties in Ubud - make sure you get the right one, one is a homestay in town, 2 are these bungalows with the pool and 3 is the newest right in the rice paddy.
Positives -
Its on a lovely street away from the maddening crowds with lots of great eateries.
Its in and amongst the rice paddies so you can see the fields from breakfast and step out and your on it.
The bungalows are great really big and have their own balcony and well kept beautiful tropical gardens
A nice touch they bring you a flask and coffee everyday and leave it on your balcony.
The breakfast is brilliant good selection, banana pancakes, eggs on toast, omelettes, fresh fruit, smoothies and juices, Bali coffee
You can sit by the pool and be surrounded by butterflies, birds and bats at night - very peaceful
Wifi
Its a little bit raiders of the lost ark with all the steps and secluded bungalows and gardens
The staff are helpful with trips and information.
If you think of it like camping and don't expect too much on the cleanliness front you can deal with it.
Not so positives
The rooms are absolutely filthy - see photos.
We were shown a room underneath the breakfast area and it was so grubby and smelt disgusting we opened the wardrobe and the shelves were just covered in animal poo - big piles of it - I wouldn't like to say what it was. Fortunately they put us in a different room anyway - this have must just been a room the showed people for an idea and had not been used for a while.
Our room was spacious but just grubby, the lads did clean everyday but obviously not had much training .
There was gheko poo on everything, the walls needed a good lick of paint and wash down, the lightswitches were grubby, the mossynets on the bed where dusty and black, I didn't dare sleep on the sheets or pillows, I had to put a towel down. There was a t-shirt from somebody elses stay on top of the mozzy nets! - it just made me feel dirty. My husband was fine but he doesn't see dust or dirt anyway ;)
The bathroom was pretty much the same - mostly with stuff broken and hanging off.
After a few days I did start to see beyond the grime and enjoy the place and just saw it as camping. We asked for fresh towels, but they said they only did the sheets and towels every 3days.
It was run completely by men and boys and I just think they need a bit more training on housekeeping front and an introduction to bleach and brillos - im not some ocd cleaner by the way - see photos.

Room Tip: They are all the same

If you can handle a 10 minute walk from the bottom of Monkey Forest Road you will find this accommodation ripper. The bungalow is large (we had an extra bed & had plenty of room), the breakfast excellent and the staff extremely helpful. Also has a very large pool which is kept clean. Unfortunately we were on a tight schedule so only spent 2 nights here. We would have loved to stay longer to enjoy this fantastic hotel. Macca (Wagga Wagga NSW)

This is the 3rd homestay/budget accommodation I've stayed at in Ubud and by far the best. Gorgeous bungalows with canopy beds and bathtubs, a pool, lovely rice field views from the breakfast area.

It's a 10 minute walk from the centre of town (up the most picturesque jalan in Ubud) but totally worth it for the peace and serenity. I booked 3 nights, I'm planning to stay 2 weeks instead (I'm still here)...

I was at a 3 week painting seminar in March and April. I was pleasantly surprised at the size and quality of my bungalow as well as the service from staff. Each of the bungalows at Arjana 3 are separate structures, tucked away in a tropical setting. My room had a large bedroom, with canope bed with mosquito netting. The bathroom was very large with windows secluded by foliage. The room had a small frig, table and dressing table. The rooms were cleaned daily. Considering that Bali is a 3rd world countries, there was an occasional power outage that resolved quickly. Each morning a simple breakfast is provided and you can eat in the open air dining room on the rice field.

Arjana 2 is away from the busy main street so you don't have all of the noise yet close enough to walk to the main part of the city.

Things to consider:
There are lots of stairs to climb to get to your bungalow, starting at the street. This is because the bungalows are built on a hillside.
If you are looking for US hotel amenities, this is the place for you.
If you want a true Bali experience at a great price, this is the place!

We stayed here for 3 nights and for $17 a night you can't go wrong. Big room with our own verandah, breakfast included. Amazing pool and not far from the center, we got a scooter as were feeling quite lazy but an easy 5 min walk to nearby shops and restaurants. Staff were friendly and helpful, we booked a bike tour through them and got a discount. For a budget option it was amazing.

This is a lovely place to stay in Ubud. We had a very large "bungalow" - very big room and a big verandah with seating. The bathroom was a bit dated and not the cleanest it could have been but this was the only negative. The grounds of the site are beautiful, lots of plants and very well maintained. The pool was lovely. The breakfast was great and the staff were really friendly and helpful. They helped with organising taxis and drivers as well. The bungalows are situated right by the rice felds - so the views from the breakfast area and some of the rooms was stunning. Well situated, a 5/10 minute walk into town.

We stayed in the bungalow in the rice field. I’m givingin 4 instead of 5 stars because the kitchen/living areas weren’t cleaned up after other guests left. However this place is so inexpensive and SO BEAUTIFUL. I loved staying in the rice fields-- but you better be in reasonable shape! It’s a walk into town, whether you go through the rice fields or down Kajeng street. What a joy to wake up to the happy white ducks quacking through the rice fields! Amazing sunsets, great views. You must walk through the rice fields-- hidden away is a tiny organic co-op restaraunt in the middle of the rice field! You’d never know about it and no one told us, so unfortunately we saw it too late to try the food there, but it was really cool-- and so quiet! All in all I recommend this place.

I see some reviewers here say it’s dirty-- but the dining area was just fine for us; just remember you’re in the jungle, everyting in in the open air, and things can’t possibly be spotless. We never got sick from eating anything at this hotel and the food-- toast and fruit salad and eggs-- is always beautifull presented and refreshing! As for Balinese coffee-- don’t drink the last couple sips! (like Turkish coffee)

Room Tip: if your idea of peace is sitting at the top of the rice fields and watching the ducks quack by as th...
