“Amazing, will be back!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 June 2011

We stayed at The Purist for 7 nights from June 10th 2011. We stayed in the River villa 2 and were amazed at the beauty and peacefullness when we arrived. The attention to detail in the suite was also something we marvelled at. After staying in an overpriced 5 star resort in Jimbaran that had 13 restaurants and 5 pool areas the Purist was a welcome change. Everyone who helped us throughout our stay was wonderful and the staff went above and beyond booking trips, restaurants, cars, spa treatments and giving us advice about local things to see and do. Nothing was a hassle and everything about thr Purist truly made our stay in Ubud one of a kind.
We will be back to visit this little peace of heaven we called home for those 10 days.
I also highly reccomend the Lombok cooking class, not only are you taken to the markets to learn about the food used and where it from you also learn alot about balinese culture and tradition as its held in a family compound.
Thanks to all at the Purist for making our stay unforgettable.

We just got back from Bali yesterday and we already want to go back to The Purist! The service was exceptional, and it really did set a benchmark for all other hotels to follow. Because there is so little capacity for the number of guests at The Purist, we felt like we were the only guests being catered for at the villa! The staff were extremely friendly and efficient, going out of their way to help you in every way possible.

We originally booked River Villa 1 to stay in, but upon arrival we were told that there was an error in the system and so we got upgraded! On the first night we stayed in the Jungle Villa and for the next two nights we got upgraded again to the Garden Villa with our own private pool. We weren't charged anything extra and they were so fantastic about it - even apologising for having to upgrade us! Both villas were very well maintained and beautifully designed. The daily breakfast was a particularly notable - they were very flexible with the food choices, allowing us to order anything and everything we wanted, serving it right at our villa promptly at whatever time we wanted.

There are hardly any negatives I can think of for The Purist. One might be that the location was not in the center of town - this was quite annoying, but we were aware of this when we booked The Purist. It was very difficult to get outside drivers from the villas because it was so secluded, so we sometimes used the hotel driver and sometimes walked (about 20 - 30 minutes). The hotel also offered shuttle services but they were at quite inconvenient times like 10am, 5pm and 10pm.

Another notable thing is that there is a huge construction site next to the villas going on right now. The construction sounds we could hear from the Jungle Villa were incredibly noisy and we were quite happy to be leaving to the Garden Villa where we couldn't hear anything at all. So try to pick a villa that is away from the construction noise! However this issue is not the fault of The Purist and it's only temporary - so, these minor issues aside, The Purist is fantastic and definitely deserves the title of the best accommodation in Ubud. We never wanted to leave!

We stayed in the Hill Villa with our 2 year old daughter,. The materials used to build this villa were amazing (mostly stone and very solid timber) and it was beautifully decorated. The main bed upstairs is huge and has a mosquito net, as does the port-a-cot the staff set up for our daughter). We all loved the private pool and spent a lot of time just hanging out around the resort. There is also another large pool for anyone to use that was rarely used during our stay.

Having a separate lounge area meant we were still able to watch tv or just hang out inside while our daughter was sleeping which would be harder with some of the other villas - although they do all have lovely outdoor areas.

The staff were wonderful and our daughter warmed to them all in no time - they loved taking her off to feed the fish (very well-fed fish that week!).

The resort is not particularly child-friendly in terms of design (eg lots of gaps between pavers for small feet to fall through, no safety rails next to rivers/pools, very steep stairs inside the villa and locks that little ones can reach - be careful putting young ones in the downstairs bedroom as this has direct access to the pool). We also found it a bit hard to settle our daughter for afternoon naps as there is still a fair amount of construction noise happening next door - not heavy machinery but a lot of banging. They also start up pretty early (about 7.30am), even on Sundays, so sleep-ins were impossible. Night time was very quiet though. Being 5 months pregnant I did find walking down the steep stairs to the bathroom in the middle of the night a little daunting!

The positives, however, far outweighed the negatives.

It is a 20 min walk into Ubud or a Rp 50,000 taxi trip (resort charge the same as local taxis if you use their drivers).

The food at the resort was great especially breakfast (and they were quite willing to make up something plain for our little one) but if you're after a change you have to go to Bridges restaurant in Ubud - check out the reviews.

Overall a lovely resort and we all loved every minute of our stay. Sad to leave...

Room Tip: Go for a villa with a private pool

We stayed at the Purist for 3 nights in the Bamboo Villa and had a wonderful time. The villa was very stylish, decorated with an ethnic-modern twist. It features a canopy bed, a perfect infinity pool and a nice terrace with sun beds and an open living room. The villas are quiet and very private so you feel you are in your own paradise (yet the Purist is very close to UBUD downtown). Service at the Purist is outstanding and the butlers team make sure you enjoy your stay. Food in general was great and we enjoyed breakfast and some tasty indonesian dishes there. We highly recommend The Purist for its privacy, its villas design and decor and good and very personal service.

Room Tip: Get yourself a pool villa (bamboo, garden,...)!

I stayed at the Purist at the end of April/beginning May for 5 nights. I was travelling with friends but they were staying at a different hotel so I had the deluxe Timor villa to myself. For the first two days I didn't leave the Purist - it was just so relaxing and comfortable. The staff are all incredibly friendly and helpful, and nothing is too much trouble for them. I had a late flight out so I was given a different villa to use for the day after I needed to leave mine. Each villa and the grounds are just beautiful and designed for optimum relaxation. The meals were all fresh and delicious. And the massages rate as the best I've had. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend The Purist (and in fact, two friends are going next month on my recommendation). I can hardly wait for my next visit.

The Purist has set the highest benchmark for service, luxury and friendliness.... We stayed 5 magical days at the Purist in the Garden Villa... what a beautiful peaceful retreat... If you are someone who has travelled and is looking for the extra "wow factor" you will not be disappointed at the Purist.
From the moment you are welcomed, to the whole team waving goodbye when you leave, you are made to feel extemley special.
The Purist is all about the little things, nothing is forgotten or too much trouble. Yohanes and his team are the warmest, caring staff you will ever meet. Every staff member we were lucky enough to meet, was so eager to please with huge smiles and laughter, we felt like the only guests in the resort. The food is sublime, just great and such a variety.
We choose the "Explore Magical Bali package" which included a beautiful 3 course meal which was just lovely. We also had a private driver to explore Bali 'anywhere we wanted', our driver "Wayan" was a real find, he spoke great english, he was so funny and very informative, it was a pleasure to have met him.
The attention to detail in each villa is second to none. The art, the textiles and furnishing are so tasteful, the resort is a pleasure to be in. The spa is excellent, I had the best massage that I have ever had (and I have had many).
But I think the most impressive part of our stay was the trouble the Purist staff went to, to ensure our last day was catered for. Our plane was not leaving until 1am and our villa was already booked, so the staff organised for us to leave our luggage at resort so we could keep exploring Ubud. When we returned from town we were welcomed with a cold iced tea, and we were offered the spa shower to freshen up and relax until we needed to head to the airport. These little things certainly made our stay very memorable and took all the worry out of our holiday.
We would like to thank the staff very much for making our trip extremely special.
Ali and Ray ....

That’s why we’ve furnished The Purist with only the most beautiful and authentic artifacts which we’ve slowly accumulated on our travels among the various Indonesian islands.
