My friend and me, we spent a few nights in Ubud in the Bali Moon Hotel and were very content with the offered room overlooking the rice terraces and the caring service of the owner family.
Our room had no AC but a fan and was first floor so that we had an excellent view of the surrounding green terraces. The Hotel is located a little bit back off the road so that it is very quite - except for some croaking frogs :) - and also close to the city center which was reachable within 5-10 minutes walking. The owners are friendly and caring so that always met our needs. They offered delicious breakfast that was different every day. Alltogether this Hotel is really a good place to stay!

Made et Wayan will make you live a real Balinese experience. From the decoration of the rooms (which by the way is amazing and was handmade by Made) to the food served for the breakfast. You will indeed have the chance to enjoy a plate of fresh fruits followed by a "green pancake" on the terrace of your room while looking at the rice-fields and bali's mountains behind.
If you're a bit curious, Wayan will be pleased to talk to you about the Balinese culture and its traditions. She is the nicest host we met in Bali!
The king size bed was very comfortable and the fan strong enough to cool down the room!
Made and Wayan have been able to keep the former tranquility of Ubud.
We highly recommend this place!!

Room Tip: Choose the room below the roof for a better view on rice-fields.

Bali Moon is an oasis is busy, bustling Ubud. Whilst its a good 15min walk from the Palace and Monkey Forest Road, it is well worth it for the wonderful rooms, breakfast, service and setting. Incredible value and one of the best places I stayed in during my 3 week trip to Bali. I enjoyed it do much I stayed an extra night.

I Loved Bali Moon, it's location, the owners and the setting. The breeze from my room 104 was wonderful and the decor so traditional..i read about the poor water pressure and the basic breakfast..i had no problems at all. The room was serviced daily, clean, freash sheets, flowers every day..and then i left but returned as i loved it so much. Walking distance to teh Ubud centre and markets..cannot rate this highly enough. They are at present building their own temple which is going to be so beautiful. I MISS THIS PLACE....and Made the husband, and Wayan his wife, and the lovely staff. But i will return.,

Room Tip: My rating is based on the room charge..40,000 per night. If you want high shower pressure and 5 star...

The setting of this small family run hotel in the middle of the rice fields in Ubud is spectacular. Picture 2 typical balinse towers (2 floors) surrounded by rice fields and your room on the top one overlooking the lush green. It seems like Paradise! At night you can hear the frogs, a cool breeze is coming in through the windows (you don't need AC) and no mosquitoes. You fall asleep like a baby but a strange smell is there. You can't figure out what it is? Is is some strange tropical plant? Is it stale sweat? No, it's the smell of urine coming from the mattress.
All the romanticism is gone in one second.
Too bad, the room was perfect, the bathroom was like in a SPA, the price was excellent but the smell of urine was awful.
After a horrible night trying to forget the smell of urine we were sleeping on, we finally got the breakfast that the landlady had described as memorable: a banana pancake, tea and fresh tropical fruit. Not bad but not exciting either.
We then complained about the urine smell and the landlady seemed upset about it. We asked her to remove the mattress and to change it. We told her we would sleep there another night i she changed the mattress. Unfortunately when we got back we realized she had just left the mattress outside to get some air and that she was putting it back in our room. That did it. She didn;t even want to discount us the first night.
So off we went and looked for another accomodation and we found much cheaper, certainly less romantic but clean and with an excellent breakfast.
Bali moon is a nice hotel with a superb view although it doesn;t have a swimming pool. If you are in a hurry this hotel is fine but if you have some time, look around Ubud first and you will find some excellent deals.
Note on Ubud: the nicest rice fields are on the north side and a 15 minute walk from the main street, It's worth getting an hotel there and being away from the tourist hub.

For comparison: we paid here 350 000 RP but if you go to Toko Toko Ubud we got a room on the swimming pool overlooking the rice fields with an excellent service for 330 000 RP...

Room Tip: get a room on the top floor of the tower

I had a good feeling about Bali Moon from the very first communication by email. Made and Wayan responded immediately addressing all my questions and offering a pick up from our hotel in Sanur that went off without a hitch. Wonderful family run accommodation, made special by their personal touch. You want something organised - leave it to Wayan - nothing was too much trouble. She recommended Bali Eco cycling tours which was a highlight of our trip. Also arranged her nephew to drive us to Bali Safari park and wait for us, all afternoon, for a very reasonable price. Made is a musician who performs with the dancers at the Royal Palace. He has all sorts of instruments on display. We had room 3, large enough to accommodate 2A and 1 Child, the bed was huge and the bathroom enormous - jaw-droppingly unique. A delicious breakfast served every morning. Bali Moon is located just a few minutes walk from the madness of Jl. Raya and Monkey Forest Rd, and even less to the well priced Lily Spa, which I also recommend. I chose Bali Moon over hotel accommodation in the hope we might share something culturally special with our 7 year daughter, and how we were rewarded. Made and Wayan are generous with their time and offer a genuine and memorable experience. As it turns out 4 nights was enough for us in bustling Ubud, but i guess there is plenty more to experience if you have the luxury of time to scratch beyond shopping, monkeys and restaurants.
