“Great villa”
Reviewed 18 May 2014

We stayed at the villa with two families for 4 nights. It was exactly what we were looking for. The staff was very friendly and helpful. If you are not afraid of Geckos this is the perfect place, as the bathrooms are semi outdoor;-). It is a mix of being close to nature, but having a luxurious accomodation at the same time. The two upper bedrooms are probably not so suitable for very small children to stay there on their own because the stairs are a bit steep, but our 8 year old was perfectly fine. And we very much enjoyed the Rice Paddy Walk with our host Barry one early morning!

Reviewed 15 April 2014

We stayed 3 nights at Villa Puri Darma Agung in April and had a truly delightful experience. It is out of Ubud, in rice paddies, and so is tranquil and calm, and most importantly, genuine. There is another villa in the area, but this is not tourist central – you are seeing the "real" Bali here, but in a luxury setting.

The hosts collected us from the airport quite late in the evening, and drove us quickly and safely to the Villa (about an hour away). The welcome at the airport paled into insignificance compared to the one we received on our arrival at the Villa, which included a gong, plus a warm welcome from the staff (despite the lateness of the hour). A light supper had been prepared for us too (which we had to pre-arrange).

There are two large king sized rooms with en suites, which include day beds and a large inside/outside bathroom and luxurious free standing bath. There are two further rooms which our party didn't utilise, which are smaller king sized rooms without day beds (and with smaller en suites) but still looked very comfortable (in fact, as they are upstairs, one of them has a lovely view over the surrounding rice paddies.

This is a completely private villa, in that you are the only booking. This means you can completely relax and not worry about other people being in the way. There seemed to be two staff on duty at any time. Having said that, they allow you to enjoy the Villa in complete privacy, only emerging when you summon them with the little gong.

The pool is not massive (i.e., not suitable for lap swimming) but is very elegant, and the gazebo which overlooks the rice paddies and the mountains in the distance is a lovely spot to while away the time. These varying communal spaces, plus the generous size of the rooms, means that even if you had a large group and are taking all four bedrooms, you could still get away from each other for quiet time.

The Villa is about 10 minutes drive from Ubud, and you can be dropped in and picked up once a day at your convenience, all included. Further trips and tours are additional. Nyoman, the tour guide, took us on a few day tours to various places, and both he and Barry, the owner, were able to offer plenty of advice on destinations, and took on board our tastes and interests so could recommend appropriately.

Highly recommended.

Fantastic stay at the villa in early March, from the warm welcome on arrival and throughout our stay. The villa is immaculately furnished and typically Balinese in design. Up to four double rooms are available, all with showers and two also have a luxurious, semi-outdoor bathtub. Pool and gardens are heavenly, with tropical plants and goldfish ponds. Stepping outside the villa leads you to myriad paths through the paddies and past flocks of ducks. Last but not least, Barry the villa's host is most charming and his staff are attentive, caring and discreet. Highly recommended.

Recently stayed at this beautiful villa for 5nights. Location is a little out of town but this made for a restful stay. I don't want to repeat on previous reviews and really have nothing bad to say about this property. If you are looking for true Bali then stay here. If I have one negative it would be that the complimentary breakfast included in the room rate could be a little more than it was which was just your basic fruit and toast. I stayed at two other properties besides this one and both of those stays included cooked breakfasts each day and the nightly rate was far less than I paid here. Just saying that it would have been a nicer option to have a cooked brekky instead of just fruit or toast. If you are willing to pay for the extra it is available but be prepared to pay for it. The two best rooms are on ground level and both have amazing bathrooms that include a free standing bath which I used each night of the 5nights I was there. I love indoor/outdoor bathrooms and having the big bath as well was a bonus. I could not fault the room and have stayed in many beautiful rooms especially ones with thatched ceilings and this was one of the best. I had the room on the right facing the pool area, just gorgeous. The staff deserve a big mention. Nothing was too much trouble for them. Barry the host of this villa should be so very proud of what he has done here in a stunning location with the most amazing staff. Unforgettable stay.

Room Tip: The two rooms closest to the pool area are larger with beautiful bathrooms.

We stayed at Villa Puri Darma Agung 6 days in January and what a fabulous experience for our whole family of 8 (including 5 children aged 12 to 20). A beautiful resting place close enough to Ubud town to take advantage of the amazing sights, shopping and culture, yet far enough away to provide tranquil seclusion amongst the rice paddies. Nyoman and the staff provided a wonderful friendly service that responded to all our needs without being intrusive. They assisted us in organizing exciting and interesting day trips. We felt welcome and “at home” in a luxury, exotic setting.

The Villas are beautifully appointed and clean and the gardens are just gorgeous. Barry was a welcoming and knowledgeable host. Everyone at the Villa ensured an authentic Balinese experience for us.

We felt like royalty at an amazingly reasonable cost. Without doubt we will be coming back! Recommended without hesitation.

This Chinese New Year was our second visit to UBUD. It was a family get away, 6 adults and 2 kids. We had a great time last year when we stayed elsewhere but we wanted to try something different. And we are glad we did just that.
Our host Barry Edwards is a charming guy and has set up a beautiful place in the country side of UBUD. Communicating with him by phone and emails was easy. I had planned my trip 3 months in advance Informing Barry of all our requirements. Free airport transfer to and fro was a bonus. Very friendly and ever pleasing staff, Ayu, Komang, Made and Eka were fantastic. They were quick to help us with all our needs and demands. We were given free transfer to town and a mobile phone to call back once done. The villa was spacious, cosy, clean and most of all breath taking view of padi fields, like Barry says it " The Real Ubud".
Simply put, a great place to stay.

Arriving at the end of a dirt road surrounded by rice fields and the sound of the locals looking after their fields is amazing. Away from the hustle and bustle of Ubud yet close enough to be there within minutes.
With few rooms you have the place to yourself. No one but you and your guests.
Nyoman and the staff welcomed us at the gates with the sound of gongs and the kids ran around the beautifully manicured gardens and water features to investigate.
Then the rooms are first class with an extraordinary bathroom to sit back and relax at the end of the day.
Fully serviced with a good variety on the menu for all meals and the ability to sit by the pool and relax while having a drink and seeing the kids play. We had our kids there but would suit a single person or couple perfectly to get away from it all.
Sitting on the rear raised gazebo allows you to see the happiness of the locals working in the fields whilst listening to the gentle stream running behind the property.
A walk up the rice fields to the start of the river that runs water through the fields is also a great trip.
Highly recommend this place. Would tick all the boxes for all people.
Thank you for the hospitality and great service. Did I mention the gardens! Amazing
