“Superb and special place!”
Reviewed 17 July 2011

All the reviews here are true, this is a special place. Everyone is very friendly and helpful. The villas are amazing, private and comfortable.

You will find yourself in the rural countryside among the rice fields, the resort has several as well. Each villa is different, all with their own pool, not a small ones either. Some have outside bathrooms, shower, WC, bathtub, etc. If you are scared of insects and some large lizards you might request indoor bathroom facilities, otherwise the outside ones are absolutely stunning and give you a feeling of amazing freedom and nature.

Everything has great quality, the beds come with latex mattreses, there are ceiling fans and there is airco, but frankly, the outside temperature doesn't require any of this.

There are bicycles for rental, inexpensive, and the road there has very little traffic.

There is a shuttle that takes you into Ubud, there is a schedule but they are very flexible, you don't have to do much waiting.

Breakfast is very nice, you basically order it the way you like and they carry it to wherever you want.

I saw some reviews saying there is no WiFi, maybe at the time of those reviews there wasn't but just last week there was, they hand you over the password on arrival and it's included in the price, there are several networks running and the speed is very good.

In Ubud there are many places to visit and eat but this place is so inviting that you might just want to stay in and relax. If you have difficulty relaxing and feel stressed... Well, I can assure you that this is the place for you to try out!

The pool water is refreshing, not soup water found at the beach places. The plants grow almost into the water and the pools all being infinity style make it almost like swimming in a natural pond or river straight into nature.

The kids had a more modern villa with indoor bathroom, there was a sliding door from their bathroom that led directly into the pool, unbelievable!

In summary: the facilities, location and service make this resort of amazing value.

Room Tip: Each villa is different but you need to choose between inside or outside bathrooms. We choose the ou...

From the time my husband, my sister and I were picked up at the airport (free if you book directly with the resort) by the smiling Wayan Putra, with the cool towels and the cold water to the amazing greeting by the staff (Made', Jero and Ming) at the Residence - Rumah Lotus (stand alone villa away from the main resort) we knew we have chosen well. The trip from the airport about 90 minutes, time to get over the flight and get aquainted with Bali. We had read many blogs on trip adviser but always came back to our first choice the Chapung Se and were not disappointed. It was 15 minutes from Ubud, which at first we were concerned about, but that proved a godsend as you leave the hussle and bussle and go to the peace and quiet of the paddy fields. We had our own private security Mr Gustie who kept us safe at night. If you want party central this will not be for you, if you want space and peace to recharge in luxury with easy access to the restauraunts etc of Ubud - spot on, this is the cultural heart of Bali after all!.Money changers in Ubud great - much better rate of exchange than anywhere so do only a little money before you leave home. You get one free return trip daily to and from Ubud which is great (the cars are new and clean). The staff (there 24hrs a day, but remain discrete) are amazing and cannot do enough for you, felt like family after a few days. The amenities were amazing. The Residence is only 1 yr old and the attention to detail to ensure you have everything you need was outstanding. Relaxing at breakfast cooked by our own staff, while being serenaded by whom ever you chose from the sound system that was piped to most areas of the villa. No internet access at this villa yet, but will be available in 3 months so I believe (not a bad thing really), outside shower, huge inside bath, 2 separate bedrooms with king sized beds, own TV, DVD and CD player - each with own bathroom connected by a main corridor (with loads of cupboard space) if you open the connecting doors. Plenty of mineral water provided everyday to drink but also to brush your teeth - do not drink the local water anywhere in Bali. Bed turn down in the evening with fragent oils. The grounds are fumugated once or twice a week to reduce mosquitos and mosquito coils and candles around the 25 metre pool every night - still bring the aeroguard but not really necessary. The views from any area were of the paddy fields, so soothing to the senses and something to watch every day as these are working paddy fields. This is the country so you will meet the local wildlfe from a distance, geekos, frogs, roosters etc. The Residence has its own spa so you can book a massage and that was amazing and inexpensive. The owner is french so the french influence is noticeable. The only down side is we did not stay longer, but we will be back next year and would not stay anywhere else. Suksma mewali

My second time here, and it only gets better with age, even though its only a couple of years old, it feels like its been secluded in the ricefields for ages. A cluster of 8 one & Two bedroom villas to die for. All furnished with one off pieces of furniture, 8 metre plunge pools, absolute privacy. They provide transfers to & from Ubud at set times, the staff are perfectly efficeint, smiling , as do all the Balinese, and in July I want to come back to try the restaurant which will open. Even without the Restaurant, they manage a very good kitchen that provides superb , breakfast lunch and dinner, all delivered to your villa, so the new restaurant just adds another dimension .
Just wish this stay was longer. but another good one tomorrow.

We had high expectations coming to Chapung Se Bali with the great feedback from TripAdvisor and the wonderful photos posted on their website. All those expectations were exceeded the moment we arrived!

This boutique resort is extraordinarily one of the most beautiful and unique place we’ve ever stayed.

Serene natural landscape paired with meticulously designed spaces, architecture, furniture and layout make this resort so special. The location is set between lush green rice paddies and a deep narrow canyon covered with tropical plants and flowers. The trickling water from the river below and the birds flying about set such a magical tone for a peaceful and Zen atmosphere.

You enter your own private two bedroom Villa through a pair of antique Balinese carved door. Buddha statues and a koi pond greet you as you proceed through. We were all excited to see the gorgeous infinity pool overlooking the canyon with comfy lounge chairs to relax in privacy.

The bedrooms are well decorated with contemporary European furniture. More than half of the bedroom is floor to ceiling glass so it was great to have the blinds up to enjoy the scenery, sunrise, rain and wildlife while comfy in your canopy beds. Very romantic setting. The large open living space and kitchen/dinning room were great to watch a movie or share a nice meal together.

We enjoyed our free daily breakfast that was either served in the Villa or at the Restaurant/lounge. Breakfast included delicious bread and pastry basket, fresh tropical fruit, choice of eggs/omelet cooked just the way you like, sausage, juices and coffee. Daily Afternoon tea and cakes were also a nice touch.

They were very helpful in arranging excursion, massages and providing us with great attentive service. Through Chapung, we went on an awesome whitewater rafting trip and to the nearby temples. All highly recommended!

A private SUV takes you into the heart of Ubud in less than 15 minutes. We never had an issue scheduling our free daily trips into Ubud. There was always a car ready or they’ll call one by within 20 minutes. Ubud arts and crafts is a must see in Bali.

Truly one of the most memorable places we stayed in around the world. If you are looking for an intimate and quiet setting to unwind and relax, this will satisfy all your needs. Affordable luxury at its best!

Thank you Chapung for making our trip so amazing!

Simply marvellous.

Pros:

- Amazing grounds
- Friendly & lovely staff
- Great food
- Magic atmosphere
- Free Internet

Contras

- None, aside from the yet-to-be-built SPA which would have made it perfect !

Worth to mention: on top of a hill a few Kms away from Ubud (1hr by foot, 20mins by bike), not necessarily a negative thing though, considering how quiet and peaceful the place is.

The short drive through the rice field to Chapung Se Bali separates one from daily life so that you can enter the natural surroundings and serenity of this boutique resort without a care in the world. The minute you arrive, you feel like your holiday has begun. The staff is personable and welcoming and the smaller size of the resort means the service is truly personalized. If there is something they can do to make your stay more pleasant they will.

The villas have a great Bali/European style to them and provide a serene and private family space around the pool while also offering the convenience of kitchen facilities and modern technology including WiFi. Traveling with teens, I find those amenities are a requirement!

We have enjoyed Chapung Se Bali on a few occasions and generally opt for active days with bicycling, hiking, and exploring. Returning to such a comfortable and welcoming villa for a cool dip in the pool and a glass of wine while watching the sunset over the natural landscape and traditional rice paddies that wind through the resort is a real treat.

I have always found the food to be delicious, and particularly love their Soto Ayam, but their are many wonderful restaurants just a short trip into Ubud. Ask the staff for recommendations if you aren't sure where to go.

I think Chapung Se Bali is a real gem. It is rare to find a truly beautiful resort that has the best of home and the best of a hotel in one place.

Wow – we loved this place! So much so that it is no exaggeration to say that I had a tear in my eye as we drove away after a wonderful 11 days – that is a first I can promise, as is providing a review on Trip Advisor. There are, however, so many reasons to recommend Chapung Sebali. Whilst only ten minutes drive, it is a world away from the bustle of downtown Ubud. Overlooking the rice paddies and green hills, our villa was extremely private and just gorgeous. Open and light, with large master bedroom, separate second bedroom, fish pond, freshwater swimming pool and huge outdoor lounge and dining area, it was the perfect place to relax, and for our 2 year old to explore. As a result we spent many a happy day and night at the villa itself and enjoyed some really great food: the marinated snapper and tenderloin beef a couple of our favourites. Shuttles to and from Ubud can be arranged at short notice and of course it is easy to arrange vehicle/pushbike/motorbike hire to get out and explore more widely. But the thing that really set this place apart for us was the wonderful service from the manager, Rana, and his great team who, whilst at all times extremely professional and ever attentive, made us feel completely relaxed and at home. Our daughter is still asking about her “aunties and uncles” - did I mention the babysitting? (My only note of caution is to parents who might not feel comfortable having a young child in the second bedroom, which is really quite separate from the master. We decided to take our daughter in with us -which was not the original plan! - but as you can see, did not dampen our enthusiasm for this place.)
