We stayed here as 2 couples in a two bedroom villa for 5 nights. This place was great. The private pool was nice and relaxing with a great garden area. The kitchen was not heavily stocked for those who want to cook up a gourmet meal, but some of the basics were there - though we had to bake on the oven racks due to no baking trays! The fridge is massive for all your beer! The rooms were identical with indoor and outdoor shower facilities. Linen was of a high standard and the rooms get turned down each night. Actually the whole place gets turned down at night (i.e. mood lights on, mozzie spray, bedrooms, etc). The aircon in the bedrooms worked well, though the other couple had a leaking aircon. The staff are friendly and always helpful. The transfer to town is convienient but make sure you are at the pick up point a few minutes early as we rocked up one day and just managed to flag the driver down before he left 8 minutes early! Note that this hotel is about 10-15mins from Ubud Town. Breakfast was great with some variety each day - for the hot meal we usually asked for extra sausage, bacon and potatoe cause the meals were a bit light on. We ordered room service one night and this was fine. We did not use the hotel to book any tours, we used the internet and our driver contact (see other reviews on Bali Drivers by us). Get some cheap CD's in town to play on the little stereo while you relax the days away. Overall we were very impressed with this place.

We stayed at Chapung after trawling the net for a quiet, luxury venue in a serene environment - and we were not disappointed. Has stayed at the Ubud Village Resort & Spa on a previous trip and wanted to find something just as nice and relaxing.
Chapung is located about 10 mins drive from Ubud, just far enough away to feel you were staying away from the hussle and bussle of the village. But close enough that the shuttle service trip does not make you feel isolated.
Upon arrival, the staff set the mood for the rest of your stay. They are always attentive but not overbearing, keen to ensure your stay is as enjoyable as possible. After being collected from our last location in Seminyak in a smarter-than-usual car we were greeted with a rundown of the venue and sat down for a cooling cocktail and given two bowls of colourful flowers and bathing water to soak our feet in for a few minutes.
Our designated butler then showed us to our villa after walking past the open dining pavilion which looks over the valley on which the resort sits. Looking across you can see mature forests mainly of huge coconut palms but a variety of other heavy wooded trees that looks very majestic and carry the presence of a royal exotic forest as the branches sway in the warm breeze.
We are shown to our villa , which in our case is one bedroom (number 7). After walking through the carved double doors anmd tropical garden we enter a large open plan ktchen, dining and lounge. All decorated in 60's & 70's retro wooden furniture, our favourite period! To the left was the bedroom, - in it the large comfortable poster bed - large writing desk & flat screen TV on a dressing cabinet. That leads onto a well designed bathroom, open shower, toilet and then walk in wardrobe/changing room. All this flows really well - the bathroom being my favourite with a full bath, ample shuttered windows, wet and dry dressing tables and use of lots of wood to create a warm atmosphere that blends in with the heavily wooded forest just outside.
Both the bathroom and bedroom have sliding doors that open to the huge tiled swimming pool that runs along to the lounge as well.
Beyond is a small deck for your sun loungers and then a large lawn bordered by tropical plantings before a low fence that has the deep valley and forest beyond. We loved the simple style of the villa, the big space and the attention to detail, especially with the period furniture. Never used the kitchen, but when we had meals from the restaurant delivered it was handy to rinse plates. Aircon in the bedroom, bath areas worked well.
We ate at the eating pavilion a few times, but the main meals were quite underwhelming, so decided to eat in Ubud more which was great anyway (see Bridges review). Although I must say having dessert sent in as room service after dinner in the village was both tasty and very special! Bedding was excellent, room servicing great, and restaurant staff helpful even though the chef needs to change. The food really didn't match the standards of everything else.
In our package was a massage for each of us and a bike trek. Let me tell you - we have lots of massages when we visit Bali but these massages were by far the best - outstanding! The bike trek was OK - we were taken to a village about an hr away and had a basic downhill ride back to Chapung. What would have made that better was our host stopping and sharing some local knowledge of what we were riding through.
The villa grounds have obviously had a lot of work done (lovely rice paddie gardens, lotus pools etc) and the placing of the venue in the middle of rice paddies is very effective. However there is still some work to be done, so it was shame to have to walk past a rubbish area needing a lot of work everyday to get to our villa. Perhaps some strategic planting might help disguise that! That said, the view down the valley from the venue was fantastic.
Chapung is a great place to stay for a quiet and serene rest - I would recommend to anyone wanting just that.

Room Tip: Every villa looks like it's just as luxurious as the rest

My husband and I recently stayed at Chapung Se Bali Villa in Ubud and we loved it. In fact, our expectations were exceeded above and beyond. It is a stunning location and the views cannot be missed. The villas look like something out of a travel magazine or 'Lifestyles of the Rich and the Famous' as one of my friends pointed out.

We stayed in a one bedroom pool villa. At first we were in #3, however we wanted a more secluded villa with views of the rice terrace and relocated to #6. Both villas were incredibly lovely, but we preferred the open views from #6 and the pool which can be accessed from either your bedroom or bathroom. The Manager (Rana) went out of his way every time to ensure our happiness. He is one of the best hotel managers I have ever come across and made sure that our stay was extra special. The staff is lovely as well, always smiling and very, very nice and respectful.

Chapung offers a shuttle service into Ubud which takes around 10 minutes. Don't miss dirty martinis and ribs at Naughty Nuris!

Breakfast is lovely and can be delivered right to your villa. We ordered lunch and dinner and both were acceptable, but not outstanding. The array of sambals was impressive though.

Chapung is a dream, you will not be disappointed. If you like nature, beautiful scenery, friendly staff and a bit away from the hustle and bustle then this place is for you.

For those seeking a Bali break away from the hustle and bustle of the major centres, it would be hard to beat Chapung Se Bali as a place to stay. The complex of eight villas is ten minutes drive out of Ubud, surrounded by working rice fields, coconut palms and gentle green hills. The location is truly breathtaking in its beauty. Our 2 bedroom villa (No 4) overlooked all of this. It's style was more "minimalist modern" than "Bali traditional" . The airconditioned bedrooms were one on each side of the living area which was open, facing our private, beautiful, big, infinity pool. From the moment we got into the car at the airport on arrival, we enjoyed friendly, attentive but not intrusive service from all the staff.
There is a regular and flexible shuttle service to and from Ubud. Throughout our stay the Manager checked with us to make sure we had everything we needed and were enjoying ourselves. The restaurant, which has beautiful views, is soon to become the resort's yoga/activities area when a nearly completed new restaurant (still with the views) opens. Guests have a choice of having meals in their villas with a butler service or in the restaurant. The restaurant service does have a little way to go - soup came with main course one night - but we were so de-stressed by the whole Chapung experience, that it honestly didn't matter to us! It would be hard to design a menu for a Bali restaurant that would please all guests, given that people from so many countries come to stay. We would have liked a more Balinese/Indonesian emphasis because we were in Bali and most menu items were not dissimilar to meals we could have at home. Our meals while not outstanding were reasonable enough and we were happy to "eat in" on nights we were too tired to go into Ubud.
A highlight was that the staff helped us to customise our own day trip after asking us what we liked and what we had and hadn't seen on previous trips to Bali. Their recommendations were just right for us and with the company of our charming and informative driver Made, who looked after us so attentively, it was a truly memorable day. Chapung Se Bali is a beautiful quiet, tranquil getaway for those seeking to quietly relax and recharge from their busy lives. It's definitley not the place for larger groups who want to party. We're already planning our next visit and recommending it to friends.
