Wonderful experience at Chapung Sebali. Bliss should be the word. Good getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city life. Nothing is impossible here. Full of greenery from the surrounding rice or padi fields. Sleeping to the sounds of frogs, crickets / cicadas, geckos and waking up to the sounds of chirping birds & rustling leaves from the blowing wind were splendid. No sounds of motor vehicles around the place at all. Nice and private pool within your own villa too. It is a place to be at for a total relaxation holiday. Gazing out towards the valley and opposite side of the terrace padi fields while having breakfast and afternoon tea at the restaurant was really nice. The resort is a short 15 minutes shuttle drive away from Ubud Central. Nice scenery and slightly winding up and down hill road along the way. The staff from all levels, i.e. drivers, gardeners, front office, F&B, masseurs, housekeepers, etc... lead by Mr.Rana were all really genuine in providing service “par excellence”.

My husband and I live in Bali and we have stayed at many hotels, resorts, and private villas throughout the island. We recently organized a 2 weeks family holiday for my family of 20 people (four generations) from Australia. It was my family's first visit to Bali so we wanted the holiday to be special and we wanted them to experience the beautiful diversity of Bali from the Bukit to Seminyak to Ubud. In Ubud we chose to stay in Chapung Sebali and it turned out to be the highlight of the whole holiday. From the moment we first made the booking enquiry to the moment we waved good bye to the resort, the staff at Chapung Sebali have been exceptional!! The GM, Mr Rana and all the staff have made our stay at the resort an unforgettable experience. We can't wait to return to Chapung Sebali!!

I also cried when we left. That was new!
The people are beautiful, friendly and kind. The location is perfect as Ubud can be a little intense and by taking a 10min drive (40 min walk), it is possible to retreat to a beautiful oasis set between traditional villages and adjacent to the local temple and rice paddies.
I stalked the entire grounds taking too many photos because of its sheer beauty. Dragonflies (which is the meaning of Chapung) of all colours hover over the working rice paddies, shiny luminescent beetles range over tropical flowers in your outdoor loo, frogs observe your shower (small and quaint), volcanic stone walls flank the entry to many of the villas which are enclosed by the Balinese doors decorated with fresh flowers.
The restaurant suspends over the jungle near the river so there is the constant sound of water. NYE was great - personal and fun. The staff will organise anything for you - tours, pickups, massages, food preferences. A private car and driver took us, at short notice and reasonable price, to the Spring Water Temple and another temple nearby which were both highlights. The lake and volcano are a little touristy and you could give it a miss.
Another reviewer suggested that the food was bland but the indonesian specialties at Chapung are delicious - try the Soto Ayam and the Black Rice. Breakfast has lots of local produce, preserves and home made bread. The 1br Villa is a standout. You feel truly special in your own private enclave including pool, massive outdoor area, and beautifully decorated (eclectic with asian and modern influences) Villa with outlook to the palms and the jungle fringe to the river. It was hard to leave to go exploring. We are finding reasons to return as soon as possible.

Stayed at this resort on two separate occasions. The landscape and design is beautiful. The property is set among rice fields and looks onto a gorge. A new restaurant set at the edge of the property overlooking the spectacular view of the gorge is in the final stages of preparation. This will give residents and visitors alike a breathtaking view to enjoy. For those who prefer peace, seclusion and privacy, this is a good place to visit.
It is quite a distance to any entertainment areas, but this place is meant to be a refuge from the grind of day to day life. It was perfect for a week of rest and catching up on work. There was also a marked improvement in the quality of service and food in just two months. I was impressed by the speed of change and the continued efforts of management and staff to improve on the quality. Management welcomes comments from visitors and are quick to address concerns. I look forward to see what else the future holds for this resort.

We stayed at villa number 8, with a really nice 10 meter spring water-fed pool that was so refreshing you never wanted to get out. The staff is wonderfully attentive but also gives you space and does not crowd you with attention. The food was the best we had in Bali and the chef even cooked a special Balinese birthday feast for us which was served in our villa's garden. An amazing experience. This is the perfect choice for a honeymoon getaway and romantic vacation. Approx 25 mins from central ubud; best to rent a motorbike as its perfectly save as long as you go slow and watch the dogs;) chapung is a very very special place, intimate service and quite different than many of the big villa resorts in ubud! Don't miss it.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Chapung se Bali Resort & Spa is not your usual Balinese style villa retreat. Rather it calls on contemporary lines and interiors to produce a modern lush Resort, located high in hills, 10 minutes’ drive from Ubud. Nature, minimalist, modern, intimate, spacious and design are the keywords to define the Resort's concept. The Resort opened in 2009, with the architectural inspiration of the owner, who is a professional furniture designer. Slowly, his vision grew with two restaurants, a large Spa and a wide infinity pool perched on the side of a ridge overlooking the Osh River Valley and its verdant jungle. With 8 large Pool Villas and 14 Suites with valley view, the Resort aims to offer a memorable experience : swim amidst the lush jungle in a large infinity pool, enjoy a new fusion Mediterranean-Asian cuisine and highly qualitative Spa healing therapies. ... more   less
