Been at Samaya for 3 weeks waiting for my house to be finished.
These people know how to treat and pamper a guest.
The personal attention from the polite staff, led by Wayan Suambara,
Is better than family. If you like a memorable stay for whatever
Reason go to "MY" Samaya and enjoy.

It is with great pleasure to write this review for Samaya Ubud. My new wife and I opted to stay here after 2 weeks diving in Sulawesi to relax and wind down. We chose this hotel from the unrivalled success from its sister hotel in Seminyak (currently ranked 1 on TA and has won nemerous awards) Although at the time Samaya Ubud was ranked 10 partially due to it being only 12 months old.

From the moment we left the airport we were met by a very smart driver in a very comfortable air conditioned car with cold towels and unlimited refreshments on board. The journey from Denpasar took just over 1 hour in comfort. This was just the start of the experience.

Once we arrived at the hotel, we were greeted at the entrance of the hotel by the head butler (Jo) and the hotel manager (Wayan). Following a swift bag drop Wayan gave my wife and I a personal tour of the communal areas with the highlight of the rice fields located opposite the reception. He then passed us over to Jo who took us to our Ayung villa on one of their golf buggies. She checked us into our room made us a drink and gave us all the information we could need.

The rooms are simply devine, the bathroom is equally the size of the main bedroom, which both are finished to a very high standard. The quality of fittings are extremely high along with bed linen and pillows. The bathrooms are stocked with all imaginable ammenities from mouthwash to razors and foam.

Outside you have a reasonable sized pool which is 1.8 metres deep and nearly 10 metres long, this is a pleasent 30 degrees preventing and coronaries! You also have a wonderful daybed for 2 in the shade and a patio section with table and chairs looking out over the Ayung river which we used to have breakfast.

One of the best things about this hotel is is personal touch, everyone knows your name from day 1, the staff are very professional and very polite, coupled with complimentary afternoon tea served everyday fresh from the kitchen, it would be a crime to miss this! The quality of food served in the restaurant is that of gourmet quality, there are no 'ding ding' microwaves used here unlike many large chain hotels. There is such a pride in everything the hotel does and offers. For one of our meals we had Wagyu steak, this was as tender as a fillet and the size of a rump but all quality from taste to presentation. Breakfast is no different, i would say as a well travelled person, these are some of the best breakfasts i have ever had from Asia.

The Samaya is located 10 minutes away from the centre of Ubud, for some people this might put them off, for us it was the perfect location, when the most noise is from the river, not a bad thing. It is important also to say that the hotel does offer a shuttle service into Ubud who will accommodate you with timings as much as possible which is also complimentary.

Wayan and Jo work tirelessly to make your stay memorable, their goal is 100% customer satisfaction and i believe they deliver this and more. It is very easy to pay big money for a hotel room and expect a quality service, unfortunately this does not necessarily go together as i have found out on a few occasions. I would say for us this has been one of the best hotels and experiences we have had world wide for attention to detail and personal attention without all the pretentiousness of some other well known hotels & resorts.

When we checked out again we was personally greeted by Wayan and Jo to check we were happy with our stay and if there was anything they could do to improve it. They also came outside to wave us off until we disappeared behind the lush vegitation. Finally we had a transfer down to Seminyak, the driver was Madhe who is quite new at Samaya who kept us entertained with his stories about his family and traditional Balanese traditions. He went out of his way to take us to a temple and explain what each section does and why along with their gods and the roles played by each. He, along with the entire team of staff make this hotel special and they differentiate themselves from other hotels.

We would like to say a huge thank you to all at Samaya Ubud for an excellent experience and now you are the only hotel we would consider staying at in Ubud!

Paul & Jane

We have spent my wife birthday's in The Samaya, it was a surprise for her and she didn't realize where she was until we arrived to the reception, and from that moment to our leaving of the hotel, it was an amazing experience.
The people in the hotel welcomed us with a flower neckless and they show us our Villa... Just unbelievable! Private pool, jacuzzi in the enormous bathroom, private garden with the river views, special table to make special dinners there, outdoor bed to rest looking the stars... Really it was a good present and also an amazing experience.
Special mention to all the hotel staff, from the manager to the rest of the staff, because all they knew that was my wife's birthday, they always has an smile in her face, every time we met some staf people they always said happy birthday to my wife, wherever we went, there was someone smiling who makes us feel like home... Or better than home!!!
I strongly recommend this hotel for any ocasion, go there because you will enjoy a special stay from the moment you just make the check in. Won't disappoint anyone, i promised!
Thanks for all the staff to make us feel like the best birthday we have been, thanks!

The Samaya Ubud is a perfect place to stay to see beautiful landscapes, be looked after so that there was nothing we could think of wanting. Refer to review on 27 April for the detail of the excellent services available.
I would add that the location by the river, and across the fice paddies, coupled with the quality of the villa is standout.
The staff are kind, friendly, and very eager to help in anyway they can. The level of personal service is outstanding.
A standout for us was the Spa. The services there came with the same stunning location and friendly staff, but also with a very high level of quality in product and service. My husband had a massage every day, and raved about the four hands massage. The level of service is again outstanding. Book on your first day and you are likely not to leave the resort at all.
The Villa breakfast is amazing - not having to move and having breakfast laid out for you in your own beautiful place, but on at least one occasion have breakfast at the Scene restaurant near the lobby. I can not describe the view and do it justice.
Finally, the restaurant - Swept Away, is in another stunning location. This time, at a bend in the river that opens up over the rice paddies, and has a lot of fresh running water. This is visually spectactular, but also fantastic that locals are washing in the river, and collecting fresh water from a runoff. Amazing link between the life of the village that are important to the locals and the resort.
The food is under-rated. While the menu is small, the quality of the food, presentation and service well and truly makes up for it. It is definately worth a visit.

This hotel is a real beauty. Open only for almost one year and already trimmed to perfection. There are several highlights such as: Wonderful Food, extraordinary complimentary breakfast, complimentary English Afternoon Tea with Scones and Sweets and little Sandwichs (this really is a big hit) and the room as well as the service are just excellent. Samaya really was wonderful.

My partner and I experienced ten wonderful nights at Samaya Ubud. On each of our eight holidays to Bali we have always stayed a few days in Ubud, to have some contact with the cultural centre of the arts - painting, woodcarving and silversmithing. The new Samaya Ubud resort , takes all the best aspects of service and food from the Samaya Bali Seminyak property and develops them to suit the specific cultural surroundings of Ubud. The propery is set on the Ayung River on a hillside with the villas located both higher up at the level of rice fields and some overlooking the river. Villas, spa and restaurants are all accessed either by walking or taking electric buggeys available 24/7.

The villas are all very large and beautifully appointed - each with a large swimming pool, bale and sundeck set in beautifully manicured gardens. There is plenty of space in the very light bathroom, where a spa, seperate shower and seperate toilet are located. Wardrobe storage is also spacious. The beds are extremely comfortable again with massive down pillows which afford the best nights sleep ever. The 24 hour butler service is discreet and prompt. The wireless internet access was initially difficult but was immediately addressed by the IT team, with a new router installed in our villa.

The choice of breakfast in the villa or in the Scene Restaurant overlooking the valley and rice fields offers great variety. Breakfasts tend to descend into 3 hours rituals, as the menu is fantastic - fresh and varied, coffee sensational and the scenery leaves little room for conversation!

The spa offers a variety of treatments that are professionally delivered in a beautiful setting on the river. Often it is difficult to get a very firm massage, but the staff were certainly able to offer this alternative to my partner's satisfaction. The rituals of ginger tea and foot washing are a precursor to each treatment and really puts you in the mood.
The swimming pool is also set on the river and you can just lie there all day and listen to the water and birds on a very comfortable chaise lounge.

Afternoon tea remains a highlight - whether to take this at Swept Away Restaurant on the river, by the pool or the villa, whether to eat the scones, vanilla slices, lamingtons or sandwiches first - such pleasant dilemmas! Supper miraculously appears in the villa each night and is always different.

With the manager Wayan, we undertook a two hour bike ride through the rice fields and villages in the late afternoon. It was such a great opportunity to go where few tourists travel off the main roads, see some of the Hindu ceremonial processions and temples, smell the meals being cooked and incense burning.

The Samaya Ubud also has a commitment to the small village from which the land was contracted to develop the property. Each village household is guaranteed that one family member is employed by the Samaya Ubud. Also because the Ayung River is sacred, the local village people continue to have access to it, as one of several water sources. This is not at all invasive to guests, but is in fact a privilege to be able to greet some of the people, if they pass by the restaurant to collect water.

Finally, the manager Wayan has gathered a great team of staff together and they regularly get training to cater to their professional development. Ten days went all too quickly but we were totally relaxed by the time we left this resort, to experience again the other Samaya Bali at Seminyak.

This brand new resort is the sister to the much heralded Samaya in Seminyak and it does not disappoint. Stunning private pool villas with proper swimming pools in an enviable location right on the Arung River..

The restaurant has the best food (not cheap) Ive eaten for about 15 years. Our dinner was truly memorable and its worth eating there just for the butter alone!

Close to the centre of Ubud if you want to go there and all the rafting and adventure companies will pick you up from this resort too.

The rooms are beautiful, the staff fabulous and the whole place is such good value for what you get. It puts the rest of the 5 star places into second place.

A real gem
