The Samaya Bali Ubud
Ranked #5 of 200 Hotels in Ubud
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 28 December 2011

The moment you arrive you are enchanted. The service is above par, very courteous, never over done. The food is fresh and it can be had in the garden restaurant, river view restaurant, in your room or by your own pool. The private villas all have their own pool and garden. The furniture is good quality and new. The bath is luxuriously big and decadent. The view from the top restaurant is magical. They will drive you to Ubud and back at your convenience. The nearby Four Seasons Resort is worth a visit to compare the ambiance. Both are excellent but the Samaya is hands down the better deal!

Room Tip: All rooms are equally beautifull

We stayed for 3 nights at a hillside villa, and it was magical. Samaya is quiet and secluded, and yet only 10 min from Ubud. We had such an enjoyable stay that we spent most of our time at the property. We stayed at the hillside villa for 3 nights and the the room was immaculate. We had a 1.8m deep private pool, and a gazabo in the garden with cushions and candles. We were able to have our breakfast either in the Scene restaurant overlooking green paddy fields or to have it in the villa, with a delicious menu. The service here is amazing from the airport pick up, till checking out and departure. All the staff are very polite and warm and conscientious. Everyone tries to make your stay special and memorable. We went for Balinese massage and joined one of the cooking classes, and that was great fun and very relaxing. We dined at Swept Away Restaurant twice during over short stay and the food was world class, with attention to every detail. Wine is costly here in the resort and anywhere in Bali. The afternoon tea is a charming treat and the view of the Ayung river during sunset is magical. They even give out mosquito repellent in case you need some while enjoying the sunset. Free shuttles are available at short notice and we only used it twice, but both times are reliable. This is a very well-run resort and the manager, Mr Wayan is rightfully proud of the resort's award and his staff.

My partner and I stayed at the Samaya Ubud for 3 nights in October - we also booked 3 nights at the Samaya Seminyak for the end of out trip (we went to Gili Trawangan in between).

I was instantly impressed with the property - the photos on Tripadvisor and the internet under-sell this property! It is truly wonderful

We stayed in a river view room, right where the water breaks over the rocks, so we had a lovely tranquil sound from our outdoor gazebo where we had our breakfast each morning.

This hotel truly thought of everything - indoor slippers, outdoor slippers, mozzie repellent, extra towels, bath salts, even a toothbrush in case I forgot my own. The villa was great. Huge bath, separate shower and toilet with plenty of space for all of out luggage. The room was a great size and the high ceilings are a lovely touch. Our mini bar was well stocked, and breakfast was an experience of its own. Our private pool was bigger than the pool I have at home.

Each of the butlers and staff were fantastic - they truly make this hotel. Nothing was too much trouble and every person we passed smiled and said hello.

The spa was also great - the costs were of course more than in town, but the products and quality was also 10 times better. The rooms are large, and the staff well trained.

If all of this isn't enough - wait until afternoon tea - WOW
I truly didn't want to leave

We were also assisted by a butler/driver in purchasing a stone carving in the village. We got a lift there and then assistance in translation so we got exactly what we wanted and for a great price. The morning walk through the village was also fantastic

I am a travel agent, and normally a very fussy traveller - I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to everyone I know. Nearly the best hotel experience I have ever had

We stayed for 4 nights at the Samaya Ubud and I consider it the best hotel I've ever stayed at. The first thing you notice is the incredible setting which combined with the friendly welcome is somewhat overwhelming. The level of service here is a cut above and everyone goes out of their way to make your stay as good as possible.

Breakfast is delicious in a truly serene setting overlooking rice fields. Complementary afternoon tea was the highlight of each day and we were sure not to miss it. Unfortunately we didn't have time to eat any other meals at the hotel because we were making use of the complementary shuttle service to Ubud where there was already far to much to see and eat but I have no doubt meals there would be great.

Then there is the accommodation. The villas are pure luxury. It feels truly private and secluded and I have never been more relaxed in my life than snoozing in the daybed. Each evening you come back to a small treat of fresh fruits and a snack of say, cupcakes or nuts.

We are already planning our next trip back. Truly amazing!

We have stayed four days and three nights in Samaya Ubud ("Samaya").

Samaya is a bit secluded and in the heart of Ayung rivers. It is suitable for a getaway especially if you want to have a good rest. It opened in 2010, developed locally with international standard and quality.

The staff are very friendly and very well trained.

The facility: free airport transfer, free shuttle within Ubud area, trekking every morning, cycling every afternoon, personal pool, jacuzzi, WIFI, flat screen TV, audio player, DVD player, fitness center, afternoon tea and 24 hours butler services.

Samaya also helps the local residents around its area by building water sources. The water pipe is near to Swept Away restaurant. The residents can take the water for free. The staff informed that the water sources are regularly checked by a water company to ensure the water quality.

Four nights of peace, quiet, luxury and great friendly service. Beatiful location, marvellous breakfasts and extremely attentive service. I'd go back there in a flash.

Room Tip: The river side rooms are the best

We have stayed in some of the best hotels in the world and believe The Samaya to be one of them. The setting is stunning and the standard of service second to none. Having read all the positive reviews, our expectations were high but it really is the loveliest place you could imagine. We couldn't fault a thing.
