We arrived to the hotel in the evening. Greeted with fresh juices, flowers and smiles. We were escorted to our villa and given a tour of our flawless sanctuary. Our Jacuzzi was decorated with rose petals and our table laid out with a honeymoon cake. Waking up to the sound of the riverside in the morning was a dream, so we sat and had our breakfast brought to us in the villa. Breakfast was available at any time which made it the first hotel that had ever offered such service. Our villa had plenty of sunshine throughout the day and the pool was a good size. We had dinner on one occasion at the hotel and it was very good. The breakfast was however in another league. Fresh juices, various styles of eggs, fresh pancakes overlooking the rice paddies of Ubud. We took the free cycling excursion on our second day. The views are wonderful and the route through the village is a real treat into seeing how the Balinese live however it’s not for the faint hearted. The route is through a main road and riding back became a struggle with the distance and heat. During the day the hotel offered a shuttle to and from central Ubud which was very helpful. Throughout our whole stay in Bali we did not fall asleep during our massage except during our massage here, it was just right! Our taxi was arranged by the hotel at a good rate to our next destination. Before we left we met the hotel manager who was very polite, wanted to ensure our stay met all expectations, which of course it did and more!
Headscarf note - This villa was perfect for any Muslim women wearing a hijab or veil looking for total privacy. The villa walls are high and the surrounding areas are secluded.

Room Tip: Villa 205 had plenty of sunshine and faced the river.

With stunning views of the river and surrounding area and excellent villas, it would be easy to give this resort a positive review. But what set it apart for us on our stop in Ubud for our honeymoon was the absolutely incredible service. They literally fixed my wife's sandal that was broken before we even arrived at the hotel. That's one of the many things they did but is a great sample of the levels they go to to ensure their guests are happy. Book this resort with confidence if you're headed to Ubud (and if you're headed to Bali, you should at least spend a couple days in Ubud).

Stunning, breathtaking, completely beautiful and at one with nature – I am so glad I discovered The Samaya. It one of those places I let my mind escape to in my spare moments! Yes it’s one of my happy places!

The Samaya is stunning! From the top where the reception is and where you can have breakfast you look down on rice paddy fields. As you wind your way down through the property in the golf carts through the perfectly maintained and beautiful gardens you find the river, the day spa and the fabulous ‘Swept Away’ restaurant.

The staff are so warm and friendly. They all remember your name and are genuinely happy to see you and make you feel as if you actually live there. Nothing is too much trouble for them.
The villas are wonderful and ours (in fact possibly all of them) have their own stunning private pool surrounding by the beautiful gardens and natural rainforest. The sounds of nature around you are like a beautiful little symphony. You can fall asleep to the beautiful hum of crickets in the forest mixed with the sounds of the bubbling river.

Everywhere I looked outside I saw a butterfly, or a dragon fly. I even saw a firefly at night. It’s funny in our usual busy everyday lives we forget about just how beautiful these things are. It actually took my breath away. The atmosphere is so incredibly serene.

The day spa is AMAZING. It is set on the banks of the river. If you ask they open the windows and you can hear it rushing past. Some days a beautiful bird would come and sit by the window and sing to itself. We went every day - sometimes twice! We tried just about every treatment. My favourite was the best of Ayurveda. I just loved it!

We also booked our accommodation as part of package that included soooooo many activities we actually had to cancel some. It was excellent value. Part of our package was a half day of cooking with the chef. He took us to the local market and talked us through all the ingredients and traditions there, then showed us the private chefs’ garden back at The Samaya. We then were taught how to make an amazing 3 course lunch. The chef was just so lovely. My boyfriend used to be a chef and he even learned some new things. We then got to eat it and it was scrumptious!

Our package also included a half day tour with a guide and a driver which was wonderful. A walk through the local area with a guide where we met so many lovely locals and adorable children. We also had 2 hours each at the day spa and could do yoga and cycling but opted to lay by our private pool instead

The icing on the cake was the 100 candles dinner on the banks of the river. The food, the atmosphere and the service was extraordinary and I cannot recommend it enough. It was so wonderful I nearly actually cried.

I was so terribly sad when I had to leave I felt so at home there, welcome and relaxed.

You simply must stay at the Samaya Ubud at some point in your life. I cannot wait to return. They also have 2 hotels in Seminyak which I also MUST try.

Thank you so much to all the staff who made our stay so wonderful, we cannot thank you enough. The Samaya Ubud is one magical place. We shall return!

Mike and Kristy – villa 215

Room Tip: Ask for one down the bottom near the river - a hill side villa that way you can hear the river rushing by

The Samaya Ubud meets every expectation. Discreet Taste and non-intrusive service. A wonderful place to stay of you are looking for peace and quiet. Staff are all extremely friendly and well trained to be polite and yet not too familiar. The villa we stayed at had a river view and the rushing sound of the river was very refreshing and calming. We had no disturbance from the neighboring villas and all we could hear were the sounds of nature. The villa itself was clean and well maintained. The beds were very comfortable. Sufficient daily bottled water was provided and the turn-down service left us little treats every night. The villa included a jacuzzi which was very refreshing after a day out sightseeing etc. Water pressure in the shower was definitely sufficient although not powerful. There were no mosquitoes in the villa [No idea how the staff managed this].
Butler service left little to be desired and room service was prompt and efficient. Breakfast is included and there is a variety of items on the menu to choose from. The staff are happy to cater to individual requests as well.
The restaurant 'Swept Away' was delightful and the food was well prepared and delicious. Their cocktails were excellent as was their wine paring.
We wanted to make day trips to get around and the car and driver arranged for us were very safe and punctual.
Definitely someplace I would return to.

Room Tip: River-view rooms are very peaceful.

We stayed at the riverside room for couple of days and then moved on to the hill view room. The Samaya team inquired us on the reasons for our stay. And we were surprised to see the beautiful flower decorations in the room followed by a cute honeymoon cake on our arrival. Given we never booked a honeymoon package. Cool people. Thanks to our personal butlers, who were on time whenever we needed and for the pleasant afternoon tea.

The hill view villa had a big room with a beautiful view of the rice paddy fields. In addition, a big jack fruit tree. On our time of stay they had a lot of jackfruits.

The transfer between the rooms were smooth. Something which we enjoyed to core was the free complimentary breakfast. It was good to see a special menu card printed for my Husband who is a strict vegetarian.

Thanks for making our honeymoon a memorable room :)

Room Tip: We are a couple who enjoy beautiful views. So we would suggest the hill view villa and river view villa.
