“Stay away from this hoax!”
Reviewed 18 June 2014

So my girlfriend and I decided to go to the so called Botanic Garden today. Well, that was a big mistake! First of all we had trouble finding the place bevares of the lack of signs (in retrospect quite obvious why there weren't any). When we finally found it we paid 50.000 Rp each and entered the path leasing to the garden. But there was no real garden. The place was a mess, abandoned. Rubbish. Hell, even the garden at my hotel is way more pretty.
It was clear that this place was closed down. It was like a really ugly jungle. Broken signs, broken trails, dead flowers, furniture in the middle of everything.
We quickly left and tried to find "the owner" so we could get our money back. But he was long gone. The 10-15 other people "working" there ignored us the best they could. Apparantly none of them spoke English.
We left feeling cheated and hustled so our advice to everyone is simple: do NOT go there.

“On the up”
Reviewed 12 June 2014

It was run-down but somewhat magical.
It was nice to walk around the gardens and see the nature.
Worth a trip if you like nature.
The toilets at the end of the gardens are in disrepair but it appears that the gardens are getting new buildings and amenities installed.

“wish I had read the reviews”

I agree with everything that has been written. A waste of money for somewhere that could have huge potential. I just hope that they are not going to cut down the lush vegetation to build barely used hotels and villas as is happening in the rest of Ubud.

“not worth a visit”

the whole garden is in terrible condition. don't waste your time to go there and save 50000 Rupiah for the admission fee!

“don`t pay any fee for an already closed down garden, not worthy to visit anymore!!”
Reviewed 12 March 2014

Yesterday, March 11th 2014, we visited Ubud Botanical Garden. What a pity, this once wonderful, abundant garden has been closed down quite a while ago. At our last visit 2 years ago, although the garden seemed not maintained to well, we still enjoyed a big diversity of tropical plants located in a nice canyon. But now everything is left and broken down and overgrown. a new buisness is under construction right at the entrance of the gardens. But still there are some youngster at the entrance asking visitors for Rp 50.000 . After our disappointing walk through what was once the botanical garden, we asked them to return the entrance-fee, since there is no garden anymore. after a lot of arguing they admitted that the area has been sold a while ago and they returned our money. Desa Ubud should stop this misleading activities immedeately!
