“Michelin * quality Degustation”
Reviewed 7 March 2011

We had the lucky experience of tasting the 6 course deguatation at Scene restaurant while staying at the Samaya, Ubud.
As I have mentioned in my review of the Samaya. The staff are amazing and really make you feel at home, the restaurant is no exception.
The food from start to finish was delicious, well thought out courses and very very good produce handled with the care and attention it deserved.
The menu was as follows (It seemed quite seasonal so undoubtedly will change soon).

white cooked chicken, chilled lobster, honey-dew melon
enoki, garlic foam, soy

green gazpacho
avocado, yoghurt, prawns

2 tastes of the sea
cuttlefish, heart of palm, sweet corn, cress
yellow fin tuna, chinese olive praline, caper vinaigrette, chives

Wagyu Cheek, tempura loster, soy beans, prawn air

cheese
brie de meaux aoc, black truffle, lavender honey
pink salt lavoche

cleanser
peach, lime spider

dessert
apple vanilla soufflé, apple pie ice-cream

Was a very clever, well thought out menu and each dish seemed to compliment the next.
The Beef cheek and Green gazpacho were stand out for me. The Cheek was served perfectly and just fell apart, and the gazpacho was made with green peppers (capsicum), coriander and green apple with a hit of tabasco and was one of the most intruguing, amazing dishes I have ever eaten.
We ate in a lot of really good restaurants while in Bali (including Mosaic, Kayuputu-visiting Michelin star chef, Ku Da Ta & Kura Kura) and have eaten in a lot of very good restaurants in Australia and this easily ranks among them as some of the best food we have ever eaten. Was also around half the price of other fine dinig restaurants we ate at in Bali.
We also had the opportunity to meet the talented chef (Made) who as a local guy from Ubud needs some serious looking after to stop him being poached by anyone else!

Can't wait to go back as soon as I can............
