I couldn't help but think of Sting's song "Fields of Gold" as I and my family rode through the small villages and rice fields on our family's BaliGoBike tour. My wife and three teenage children thoroughly enjoyed themselves
The ride was excellent. It was nearly all downhill so not in any way physically challenging, and on those few hunted meters of climbing, we were not too proud to walk the bikes. But the ride still has its challenges, its twists and turns, dodging chickens, riding around dogs lazily sleeping on the road and a few rough patches; and the lack of concentration, taking in all the scenery and the very friendly greetings of the local Balinese.
The cultural aspect of the tour was very informative. Our guide Gede (pronounced G'Day for our trip) and his assistant, Kadeck were extremely friendly, went to great lengths explaining the religion, village life, house construction and traditional farming methods. Gede was warm, knowledgeable and humorous.
The trip also provided a morning tea with spectacular views overlooking the Batur volcano, a chance to try Luwak coffee, a beautiful lunch at the owners house on completion and fun throughout.
