“Great food, great wood decor”

We were recommended this place by our hotel, Uma Ubud, and it was only a short walk away - 7 mins. Me and my wife ordered two soups, oxtail and chicken soups, and two mains, the Nasi Campur and Nasi Rendang. The food I have to say was one of the best Indonesian dishes I've tried since coming to Bali. The stew (Nasi Rendang) was fantastic and the Nasi Campur was a mix of different dishes so was great to try.

Worth a visit if you fancy some good food.

“Almost perfect”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 July 2014

Very good restaurant. The mainly Javanese dishes taste good even though no MSG is added. The Es Jeruk drinks are very nice if you are thirsty. The food tastes good, even though some dishes may need a bit of extra punch in my opinion. Sate is very nice.

There are reviewers complaining about the quantity of the food. I can only say that it is sufficient, especially considering the prices. But there are dishes that offer more food than others (e.g. a Nasi Campur is more than a simple Ayam Goreng or Opor Ayam e.g.). The latter needs to be understood as an extra dish to your main course, or needs to be be combined with another dish. It simply isn't meant to be a main dish. You can also clearly see from the photos of the food in the menu. If you have doubts, ask the waitresses.

As for the service. Service levels are very much 'Indonesian'. This means that you will be served, but it's not natural for Indonesian to come running after their guests asking if they want something to eat, need additional drinks etc. Just wave your hand and you will be served quickly and with a genuine smile. Also chat a little with the waitresses.

I go here very often, because it offers decent Indonesian food at a reasonable price. You can eat cheaper, but then the surroundings are also less. The wooden java house and garden at Pulau Kelapa are very nice and worth an extra buck IMHO.

“Not worth the effort”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 July 2014 via mobile

Went on the recommendation of our villa and wish we hadn't bothered. We waited 10 minutes for someone even to acknowledge us - and they weren't even that busy. Despite fact we had reservation they didnt know where our table was. Service was bordering on the rude - would it have hurt to smile? When we were eventually seated the table wasn't where we had requested and was dirty and sticky. We decided to persevere but when everything we ordered turned out not to be available we decided enough was enough and went elsewhere to a restaurant where they actually wanted our business.

“Simple, inexpensive local cuisine”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 July 2014

Our dinner experience here was somewhat mixed. While my beef curry was nice, my husbands chicken dish was disappointing - tasteless and very little meat. Still would give the place a second chance as the service was really good, friendly and fast and for that price - we paid for both meals and drinks about INR 140.000 - really ok in my eyes.

“Tasty, no frills and very cheap! Service needs work though.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 July 2014

We were staying at Uma Ubud and after looking at the other nearby options decided to give this place a try.

Im speechless at the other reviews that say its expensive- it most certainly is not. We had two courses with drinks for under £20. For me that's cheap.

In a very simple setting, wooden benches in a hut style building. It was clean and comfortable enough. I quite liked the décor as it felt authentic and local. Service was a bit on the slow side but it was very busy when we visited.

The food was top notch Indonesian/Balinese. We both had spring rolls (supposed to be a starter but appeared with the mains), my partner had nasi goring. I had Nasi campur which was one of the highlights of my time in Bali. A wonderful selection of Indonesian treats. I would recommend this dish to anyone.

service could be better, our waitress seemed quite disinterested in general (we didn't tip which is very rare for us). Its the only thing that let the place down as taste wise it was fantastic.
