Inata Hotel Monkey Forest
Ranked #135 of 598 Speciality Lodging in Ubud
Reviewed 29 January 2012

My friend and I recently spent a week at the Inata Hotel and I only have good things to say about it. First of all - how can you get over the price?! It's so cheap and yet you are treated so well, in very new and clean surroundings. In fact, we had moved on to our 2nd booking (small villa just north of Ubud) and only stayed 1 night (instead of the 3 we had booked). We came back to Inata in less than 24 hours!

The beds at Inata are extremely comfortable, the rooms are spacious and very clean. The air conditioning is effective and quiet. The bathroom is fine though getting the shower 'just right' does take some effort. Mind you, to conserve water is not such a bad thing. You will probably be spending more time in the pool than in the shower. There is a mini fridge, TV & DVD player, wardrobe and lovely outdoor table setting on the balcony.

The included breakfast gives you a great choice of meals, drinks etc and the lunch we had at the restaurant was also very nice. The staff here are brilliant! Not only are they genuinely friendly and attentive, but they are each doing their very best and this is evident in the maintenance of the grounds, the cleanliness of the rooms and the excellent service at reception and in the reception.

Probably the best thing about the Inata Hotel is the location. You are literally walking along Monkey Forest Rd, then you stop in front of Ubud Point Shopping Centre (a clothing outlet with surf fashion) and there is also an ATM nestled in this little parking space. Look closely - we missed it the first time - and there is a door way with a pebble stone footpath which disappears to the right of the shop....walk up here, through a corridor lined with colourful lanterns and you come out into the reception area of the Inata Hotel! It's so cool to just disappear off the street like that, all safe and sound, then re-appear into the open area of the hotel's reception and restaurant. You then walk past the pool and to the main building of rooms.

We found that we were spoiled for choice when it came to dining - the fantastic Three Monkeys restaurant is just a few doors up. The Lotus Lane restaurant is directly across the road (which we would visit late at night for a Baileys Comet & some banana crepes). Further up towards the soccer oval you will find Cintas and The Laughing Buddha and Kajane Homemade Resto.....of course, you will have already passed 20 other eateries by then. There's just so much choice!

Stepping off the street and back into the lantern-lit corridor to the Inata didn't mean we were still subject to a lot of noise - we found it really quite peaceful.

My number 1 tip - aside from not hesitating to book a room here - is to go and see Tina at the Shangri La Spa (across the road, down Lotus Lane) for a 2hr Chakra massage. She is a gifted healer and it was an experience like no other.

P.S. Not all drivers will know where Inata is but there is a large green sign with the name and cars can pull in off the street, in front of Ubud Point Shopping Centre, opposite Lotus Lane.

Room Tip: We stayed upstairs, the room closest to the pool so we had a bit of an open balcony and view.

I would recommend this hotel certainly. Been to Ubud few times and spend time to look for good hotels which are affordable. This one is the best I could find in this price range.
The hotel is fairly new so everything is not outdated.
The staff is helpfull and very friendly
Breakfast is fine on nice terrace next to pool.
Rooms are clean and have a safe, TV, DVD-player, complimentary water bottles, watercooker, coffee/tea and fridge.Oh yes and of course balcony and free wi-fi with good speed!!
Also very handy is that it is in the midst of town (but still quiet)

Small improvements:
- keep the door of the bathroom closed when you leave on the light. Because there are 2 small windows where musquitos fly through. They could easily fix this by having something before this. But if you keep bathroom door closed it is fine.
- the hot/cold water is difficult to adjust. Do not know if this was only in my room.

Overall: I already did the investigation for you. Have travelled a lot and saw like 15 places in Ubud. If you want an affordable, clean, friendly place (in the midst of centre but quiet) with good facilities this is a good choice!

Room Tip: You can choose on first level (more view over city) or downstairs (view on small piece of garden). B...

We have been traveling for over thirty years, and after staying eight nights at the Inata hotel, it is one of our four favorite hotels in the world (the others being in Guatemala, India, and Ireland). We have never been treated by staff as well as we were here, including getting me to a doctor for acute bronchitis. Our room was modern and kept spotlessly clean, the breakfasts were delicious and the swimming pool was a favorite spot after very hot mornings of sight seeing. Our last night in Jakarta we stayed at the five star Sheraton Bandera, and the Inata is far superior. We highly recommend the Inata to anyone visiting Ubud.

Our 3 upstairs rice view rooms are having the same water pressure problem. It is difficult for us to take a relaxing shower after a tired journey. One of the room is full of ant on the floor. However, the staff are nice & friendly. The environment & location is great.

My husband and I were on our honeymoon for a travelling trip to Indonesia and we started our trip by staying at Inata and had our last night there too.

Service: Everyone is incredibly friendly and always eager to help you with whatever you need. They even held a large bag for us when we went away for over 3 weeks to travel around other parts of the country and it was there when we returned at the end of our trip on Dec 3rd. AND they held all our bags on our last day because our flight didn't leave until midnight. So helpful!

Rooms: they are incredibly clean and comfortable with the gorgeous balinese flair of fresh flowers adorning the room among other lovely touches. It was quiet and there was A/C when needed. The balcony was really nice as well with a view of rice patties in the back. The only tiny little thing (that so many places do; they're not alone) is that they offer complimentary bottled water (two bottles a day). To be more environmentally friendly, we tried to avoid using plastic bottles. If you agree, tell them! Maybe they can start offering bottle refills from their large gallon of purified water instead (which they did provide us with when we asked them for it).

Food: the included breakfast was delicious; complete with tasty fresh smoothies. There were a variety of options to choose from including pancakes, omelette, yogurt and granola etc so whatever your mood, they had a delicious option for you.

Extras: the internet was quick and there was a nice lounge area to sit in if you had to check-out or wanted a change of scenery from your room. The pool was lovely too (although I know to be environmentally friendly, we probably shouldn't condone pool usage).

Thanks for treating us so well and we hope to return again sometime!

We booked this last minute...booked on the 4th to arrive on the 6th for 3 nights and that was fine.
Arrived early morning and we were greeted with watermelon juice which after a 15hour minibus journey from Malang was very welcome! Our room was ready thankfully so we went in.
Beautifully clean, flowers on the pillows and in the bathroom, wonderfully friendly staff who greet you whenever you arrive or leave during the day, excellent swimming pool with loungers to chill on, mini sitting area outside room as well. Breakfast was very well done...they do banana pancakes, french toast, omelettes, American breakfast and so on. Juices are limited to local fruit which is nice.
They have DVD players in the room with a few DVDs in your room to watch and some international channels like HBO which is nice to chill to after dinner at somewhere like Three Monkeys which is only a short minutes walk from the hotel (you can see the hotel over the other side of the rice paddy from your seat at this restaurant).
It is a new hotel yes but part of a larger group of Ubud hotels so they know what they are doing so it is great. Would Stay here again next time I am in Bali! Very glad we stayed here and kind if wish it was the end of our journey rather than the third before the end.

Extremely friendly staff, very helpful, clean hotel and rooms, deep blue pool, good breakfast.
The hotel is set back from the road, yet located centrally on Monkey Forrest Rd, next to Ubud Point Store. As it is new, not every taxi driver may know its location and the small hallway leading to the hotel is not obvious either.
