Exceptional service at this very central hotel in the middle of the action in Monkey Forest Road. The staff here are VERY well trained. It can border on being contrived at times ('welcome home' ad nauseum) but there is no doubt that EVERY staff member stops and says hello with a genuine smile. Quite remarkable. They know tripadvisor is their drawcard too after talking to them and they know service.

The breakfasts are great - I think 4 types of standard breakfast are offered. I hate percolated coffee and when I asked for plunger coffee, I got it immediately. I echo what other contributors say about getting a room on the second or third floor due to the light. Tripadvisor really helps with this stuff. But note that a room on the second or third floor will not give you views - at least mine didn't on 3303 and 3304. You are given one free massage in the fantastic spa on the top floor which is excellent value in the booking price.

This is not a hotel like Pita Maha or other places in the Ubud region that don't feel like a hotel. This is a room-beside-room hotel (which I don't normally go for as you can't hide away here) but all up when you think of the location and the service it is worth it. I stayed for 7 days with my family and the ease of walking out the door right into the restaurant and shopping strip (and the Monkey Forest) was great.

It would be difficult to pass up this place if you wanted a friendly, high quality, good value and central Ubud experience.

Room Tip: Second and third floor have more light than the first floor

If you are in Ubud and would prefer to stay in a conventional hotel (instead of a villa), then you should definitely consider Komaneka Rasa Sayang. We stayed in a 1st floor room and while it was darker, you have access to your own small garden which we felt was a fair trade-off. The rooms were spacious and comfortable, and if you love watching TV, there's even AppleTV with access to hundreds of movie titles. Meals can be enjoyed in the open air restaurant on the 1st floor overlooking a ravine. However, what really sets the hotel apart for us was the service provided by the staff, especially the F&B team led by Desak. We had specified that we were vegetarians and the chef really took pains to prepare vegetarian dishes for us for breakfast, including aloo paranthas and fruit chutneys. As it was our friend's birthday, the chef also specially created a beautiful non-egg birthday cake for him! The wait staff was very attentive and polite, constantly refilling our teas and asking if we wanted more food. We couldn't ask for better service and even though there was construction going on next door, it did little to dampen our great experience with Komaneka.

Exceptional 5 star Balinese personalised service from the moment you walk in the door to the time of checkout. Spacious modern ambience with elegant simplicity throughout the complex.
Located half way up Monkey Forest Road, the location couldn't be better. Staff are exceptionally considerate, always happy to help with any enquiries and the 'extended family' concept works. We had a perfect room (2305) - beautiful floral arrangement on the bed when we arrived, spacious lounging area, polished marble floor tiles throughout, large and well appointed bathroom with quality toiletry products, free standing bathtub, separate shower, separate toilet. A large, private balcony with day bed. Lots of attention to detail with extras supplied : natural insect repellant, fly & insect spray, torch by your bedside, variety of sleeping pillows to choose from, in-room wifi.
Loved that the room was serviced twice a day - anything we had used in the morning was replenished - fresh linens, beds re-made if you've had an afternoon nap, fresh glasses, complimentary water by your bedside as well as in bathroom, nightgowns, robes & slippers laid out for your evening and complimentary fruit and mini biscuit jar. You never need to buy extra water while staying here.
Breakfast was served on the terrace each morning, overlooking the pool, and any food preferences were noted and served to your requirements the next morning.
The infinite pool was beautiful with a lush tropical backdrod, bird life around and situated at the back of the hotel ensuring a quiet, serene atmosphere.
Free yoga classes offered every Wednesday and Sunday at Komanika Bumina (sister hotel - there's 4 of them in Ubud). Driver takes you there (5 min drive) and picks you up. Yoga mats supplied - skilled yoga instructor.
Had a few treatments at the Aka Wangi Spa up on the top floor. Well appointed spa with quiet relaxing ambience and several rooms catering to different treatments. The shower and locker room is well appointed with quality toiletries right down to shampoo-conditioner, cleanser, toner & moisturiser, hair dryer, brush/comb. You receive a welcome drink of ginger, lime & honey with a cold aromatherapy towel - bliss after coming in from the heat. After your treatment, there is a relaxation lounge and a finishing health drink of turmeric, ginger, lemon & honey - delicious. For $NZ24 I had a neck and shoulder massage which included the whole back and arms, followed by a foot massage - 1 hour of bliss. Skilled therapist, but knocked the table a lot when moving around. Music and air-con could be turned down a little to encourage a deeper level of relaxation. The 75 min aromatherapy massage ($NZ35) began with an aloe & mint application which left the body feeling a little chilled under the cotton sheet, followed by the aromatherapy massage which was wonderful. Skilled therapist, medium pressure ensured a deep relaxation, although that was disturbed by children playing in the spa lounge area (should be a child-free space). Although you can get cheaper massage and body therapies out on the street - the spa offers a quiet, cool, relaxing atmosphere with trained professional therapists and not having to walk back to the hotel in the heat is worth the extra.
One afternoon the pool closed early to set the stage for a Balinese dance evening which included a buffet dinner at $US35 each. This was well worth the small inconvenience of not having the pool for the afternoon/evening and having a small crowd for the dance/dinner. The dancing was of professional standard and went for around 45 minutes.
We were most impressed with the staff and the 'family connection' that is evident within the Komaneka properties in Ubud and will most definately stay here again.

A very elegant hotel overlooking the ravine off Monkey Forest Road. Simple, austere elegance is my favorite esthetic, and it provides a remarkable respite from the loud and colorful streets of Ubud. Whenever we returned to the lobby, and our room, I could feel my body relaxing! The pool was no less spectacular, a negative edge right up to the cliffs below.

Our room was very spacious, with comfortable beds large enough for the three of us. The one bathroom provided enough privacy for everyone in our party. Again, the esthetic is elegant simplicity with the ever present Balinese touch of fresh plumeria flowers arranged on our bed the night of our arrival.

The staff was incredibly attentive, always smiling and wonderful, day or night. Kudos to the management for I stilling such a culture in every member of the staff! Breakfast was wonderful on the terrace every morning.

The hotel location was perfect! I would give it 5 stars except for a few very minor issues (but they added up). First, the wifi didn't work at all in our room, the first day, and even though they said they would return to fix it, we had to call the next day as well. They also informed us that the pool would be closed our second day to prepare for a performance. Lastly, our room was on the first floor, which literally felt like we were in the basement since it was always dark because of a high wall right outside our window.

But all in all, a wonderful choice that I would definitely choose again, primarily because of the perfect setting and wonderful service from the staff. Check it out!

We stayed two nights.

The good: The people at this hotel try hard to please, the decor is very, very nice (tranquil)., and the pool is very pretty. Breakfast was quite nice (and included in the room rate), and we did make it to afternoon tea one day: it was also very nice--a nice touch. And I almost forgot to mention the beautiful flowers...

The not-so-good: Arrived in the late afternoon for the first night. In the room 'orientation' they told us that we have AppleTV...then couldn't get it to work. Didn't seem like a big deal, as we didn't come to Bali to watch movies; then it turned out the issue was with the wifi, not AppleTV. The 'IT' guy worked on it for awhile, and wifi seemed to work when he was done, but AppleTV did not (again, no problem), but then wifi stopped working. This frustrated us all. It wasn't until the second night that they finally replaced the router...by putting the lobby's router in our room. Worked great for the last 15 hours of our stay.

Worse was the pool closure. When we arrived they told us they had a special dinner the next evening for $35USD pp with dancing. Later, when we returned from dinner, there was further info about the following day's dinner, including notification that the pool would be closed from 2:00pm the following day for set-up. Knowing that we would be exploring Ubud all day, some pool time in the late afternoon was on the agenda; knowing we couldn't have a cooling dip was disappointing.

All of that said, I would recommend the place highly, but suggest you check ahead, asking:
1 - Will there be a special dinner with Balinese dance during your stay? I'm sure it was very nice, so if you're interested in attending, a 'yes' would be good. If you're not interested in going (we had seen a similar program just 2 nights before), and would be unhappy if the pool is not open, plan accordingly.
2 - Can you have an upper floor room? I read reviews that complained that lower floor rooms were dark and dreary; thought they were silly, because who stays

Room Tip: Avoid 1st floor rooms

Was here on a short stay with my partner. We were initially put in a lower ground room which was a bit too dark, but the staff kindly gave us a room on the upper floor once we had raised the issue. Very clean, beautiful rooms and pool, and convenient location in the heart of Ubud! Highly recommended.
