“Beautiful view, but there's more to it that you need to pay attention at”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 March 2011

We stayed in Pita Maha for the night, since my aunt insisted on it. The view is superb, astonishingly beautiful. We arrived at 10AM, and told the staff that we'd need an early check-in, at first they told us that the villa would be available, then upon arrival they told us that the villa is still occupied and had us to wait for it. When we went for a stroll, killing time, we passed by this one villa that's being cleaned and went back, surprisingly after 2 hours, they took us to the same exact villa that we passed by earlier (makes us wonder).

When we entered the villa, surely it was decorated grandly with flower petals and welcome home flower carpet made from flower petal. The private pool was grande.
Bed was beautifully made. Although there were minor details, like: the pool was dirty (leaves, dry leaves, dirt) pool water was clear though, the bathroom ceiling was moldy, and smelt musky, the mosquito coils were not lit, and there are no electric socket on the top bedroom.

We called for early breakfast service in the villa, and this was served promptly. The hash potatoes were not that great, but the berry danish was superb. All in all, it was a nice experience, but in my honest opinion, it's a little expensive for the villa & service standard.

You would best to ask for a villa a little away from the lobby, because you can still see people whatever they're doing when they are in the villa adjacent to the lobby. Sure it's further away and it has lots of stairs to go, but the privacy would be better for you.

We have just spent 3nites at pita maha and found the resort beautiful but lacking in standard of facilities. 1.The villas are amazing oozing in charm and character, private Garden pools and beautiful surroundings. It is a great place to stay for accommodation unfortunately the restaurant food was pretty terrible, we had our first free breakfast and did not return for the rest of the stay. The Spa was very over priced for the standard of service and didn't feel very private as it was done in the Gardens with other properties within view. Overall we had a nice stay and would recommend if you are happy to dine out and best to use other cheaper Spa services all within easy walking distance from the hotel. They do provide an excellent shuttle service.

I think if I start: "Being spoiled by Damai..." I will not discover America. Pita was chosen as the second destination on Bali and our expectations were quite high.
On the moment of arrival the reception informed us that because of the birthday of my husbie, we would get an upgrade to duplex villa with big pool.
At first we thought: "What an opportunity!". But soon were we to change our mind.
All the pictures you can see on the website must be taken quite long ago or the photoshop did its best. The duplex villa is VERY dark, which gave us quite depressing feeling the moment we crossed the door. And it is huge, too huge for a couple like us.
After having a close look we discovered that all interior is worn, quite used off. The mini bar was literally covered with rust and dirty inside. The curtains were full of stains.
After first, sleepless, nite (apparently some kind of lizards organised a party upstairs and made so much noise that it was impossible to fall asleep) we decided to go and ask for the villa we had initially booked.
The next one was much nicer, lighter, no sooo big and not worn so much. We really enjoyed again our outside shower and bath tube.
What surprised us, was the state of minibar - another one rusty and very old. I am pretty sure it is not such a huge expense to exchange them all.
From then on we didn't have any problems with lizards and other creatures :) And we could enjoy the beautiful garden (the best part of the hotel).

But, there are still some points that disappointed us while staying in Pita.
Breakfast - poor. We would never pay this price extra for what we got. The food we got was not much better from the one you can get in a 3 star. Fresh fruit? Melon. Watermelon. Pineapple.
We were served this for three following days. I think if you go to place like Bali you can expect fruit you cannot usually get in Europe.
Butter, jam served in plastic "mini" containers you can find in every 2 star hotel.
We both agreed that it was nothing in comparison to Damai.

SPA - we didn't check this service. We decided to go local and it proved that we were right. The salons in the closest neighbourhood are CLEAN, PROFESSIONAL and CHEAP! So, it is up to you.

The last nite and day - they brought us the invoice, but nobody did care to: close the curtains, to turn on the lights outside. In morning no newspaper.
But the least nice experience was our check-out. The receptionist asked us if we used the mini bar and second later through walkie-talkie checked if we were not lying.......
Well, is it a typical service for almost 5 star????

Another priceless experience, but I wouldn't recommend to stay and pay for it to anybody.

We stayed for 4 nights Pita Maha as part of a longer trip to Bali. We found the resort and gardens charming, it has an old style quality feel and I mean that in the best sense. The staff are friendly and attentive. We booked a package that included a spa treatment and guided trek through the rice fields both of which we really enjoyed. The villa was delightful, each is enclosed in a walled garden, very private, well appointed with lots of space, we had a plunge pool and views overlooking the countryside, very peaceful and relaxing. We spent a further 3 nights just outside Ubud in another 5 star property and kicked ourselves for not staying on at Pita Maha.

We had just finished 8 days in Legian Padma Resort and found exactly what we were after in this place for a cultural experience to the end of our trip. It is all Balinese and we paid the extra mony to be in the Deluxe Villa. It was two storey and beautiful for a couple/honeymooners. We had a family of 4 so the kids stayed upstairs. I was certainly in the good books with my wife with this place.
Yes there was some stairs but it created the ambience of this resort on the side of the mountain. Just outside of town but plenty of galleries around us to visit and a courtesy bus to town or the monkey village all day, everyday. Ubud is quieter hence we only need two days with teenagers to visit however if you plan to do rafting do it from ubud not legian as the travel is over an hour whilst 10 minutes from Ubud
We did not eat in any of the restaurants in the resort but had and american breakfast included and was delicious.
What you see on the website is what you get. - Beautiful sample of this country
Thankyou Pita Maha

This was the third part of our Honeymoon in Bali and was absolutely spectacular. This is exactly what I pictured when I wanted a private villa with a plunge pool overlooking rice paddy's...The villas are a MUST!!! the plunge pool is great for a dip after a long hike through the rice paddy's. The villas a very private and the decor and attention to detail is the likes of the many temples that surround Ubud. Yes there are lots of steps...BUT...what do you expect you are on the side of a ravine, plus it adds to the authentic charm!!! The room is massive and we were greeted with rose pedals decorating the bed spread and bathtub. The staff went above and beyond to make our experience truly memorable and I would definitely recommend this property to any couples looking for a romantic getaway.

I recommend taking advantage of a visit to the Royal (sister property)...there is a complementary transfer...all you have to do is ask! The grounds and view are remarkable and the food was great! Quite possibly the best steak I have ever had overlooking an awesome ravine with a winding river 300 feet below.

Have stayed at Pita Maha six times now. Have visited all others (amandari, four seasons, Royal Pita Maha etc). I find this one is more real Bali and not plastic in any way. Pool villas are lovely. Staff are great. Location is great. Not the best views in Ubud but if you, like me, like great 4 star hotels that are 32 rooms or less, this one is brilliant. Its not full of Japenese honeymooners or package tour tourists. blissful and highly recommended. Not really suitable for kids - more a quiet haven. Six visits says it all.
