The photos don't do Pia Maha justice.... This is a slice of heven!! The staff are allways happy & nothing is a problem. We stayed in a pool villa with honeymoon package SO worth it!! The villa is just as pictured but better!!! You open the door and you are welcomed with the fresh clean smell of bamboo, love hart of rose petels on the bed (that is so nice to sleep in good quality sheets fresh and clean) even room service is a little bit special :) The pool was fantastic! clean with a view to die for.. There was always plenty of bottle water in room as well. Breakfast is wonderful and the squirels are very entertaining. All in all I would say this is the best place we have ever stayed...

Room Tip: There are a lot of steep stairs if you have a problem with walking stairs let them know at time of b...

My 2 girlfriends and I stayed here for 2 nights in Ubud. The resort is like a green castle build amongst the jungle in Ubud. it's almost magical.
We had a 2 storey family pool villa on the edge of the resort which was so private and gorgeous we nearly died. We loved staying here and the staff we just so nice and accommodating. We especially loved our welcome drinks. The first night we ordered room service which was delivered so quickly and setup on our little patio overlooking our pool and valley. The food was delicious and we loved the service.
Everything was perfect at this resort. We ate a little Balinese Restaurant up some stairs just before the bridge called Made Warung. If you are staying at the Pita Maha and don't mind a bit of adventure I highly highly suggest you check this place out. It is tucked away but ask the driver to take you there and make sure you walk home yourself (up the hill). We ate dinner here and the food was the best local food I've had in Bali - prices were cheap and staff were so friendly. Once we had finished we walked along a grass path back to the main road where we saw fireflies in the field next to us. This was a sight I cannot even describe to you. Just magical!!!! You must try this restaurant.

Room Tip: try and ask for a room at the back of the resort overlooking the valley. Much more privacy and bette...

This (hotel and resort seems the wrong choice of word) retreat is a beautiful place to stay if you are seeking serenity and calm once you step inside. The decor is a mix of tasteful splashes of colour but still in their traditional Balinese style (I hate new contemporary hotels in Bali). This was our first time away without our teenagers and we decided to spend a little extra on a Pool & Garden Villa. It was definitely worth it. The space we had to ourselves was fantastic! Marble floors, our own plunge pool, a small garden with total privacy overlooking a ravine, sun lounges, tables and chairs inside and out, a daybed, and a lovely huge bed setting inside - as well as a bathroom the size of my kitchen at home! The 'resort' is made up of villas, pathways, the guest lounge, dining area and reception. This is not a place for children as it would detract from the serenity of the couples staying here for peace and serenity. So please do not take them. Find somewhere else! Leave this beautiful location for couples and honeymooners. The staff were very attentive and helpful and if anything was required, they were very prompt. A shuttle bus runs every hour to town and brings you back at quarter past the hour. It also takes you to the Monkey Forest and does the round trip to the shops near there, which are worth looking. We stayed 5 nights in Ubud but wanted to stay more, as all the things we wanted to do were within travelling distance of this beautiful 'unspoilt' town. This is our 5th trip to Bali but first time we stayed in Ubud and will definitely stay at this hotel again. But please DONT take your kids - they'd be bored anyway. The only thing you need to consider is there are a lot of stairs on the lower level villas, and the stairs are quite steep to go up and down.

Room Tip: I requested a "quiet location" meaning not near the general pool or on any major pathways...

Once you've recovered from the awe-inspiring view in the main lobby that overlooks the valley and the jungle, you can walk down the winding, stone pathway to the infinity pool that will knock you out again - it is The Grand Pubah of pools, the kind of pool you see in brochures that you sort of can't believe really exist. And it has an even better view of the valley.

There are lush gardens and winding paths throughout that make the entire place really magical, as well as a real pain in the rear for me who arrived with a seriously injured ankle. Getting up and down the steps was an effort (take note fellow feeble ones) but I stayed for a week anyway because it was just so damn beautiful.

And the staff! The nicest people I've ever met who took care of my every need. Without a doubt the fastest, most attentive staff I've ever experienced at a hotel anywhere. One morning it was pouring out and I had a skype call for work and somehow got the wrong code for the internet. I called the front desk and someone was at my door in seconds, in the rain, at 5:30am.

They also drove me around to look for hotels with less steps - what hotel staff will do that for you? Help you look for another hotel? (Didn't find any that could seduce me away btw, plus Ubud, very hilly/steppy).

The rooms are gigantic and luxurious, the views stunning, and the open air restaurant is lovely. It's a little bit of a walk to get to any of the Ubud action, but they have a free shuttle that will get you there in about 5 minutes.

The cons: The rooms smell a little musty, probably because of their traditional thatched ceilings (that are super high and glorious) and the bathtub is tiny but if you get a pool room, you have your own pool so who needs a tub anyway?

I like being closer to town, but nowhere in town could you get a view this awesome.

It's a really special place, unlike anything I've seen anywhere else. And I've been around.

Very nice hotel with splendid and spacy villas with private garden pools. The patina on the walls of the hotel complex and the stone figures gives a specially nice ambiance to this beautifully designed hotel on the hillside outside of Ubud. Very quiet area with views into the wilderness. The service was always very friendly and helpful. The meals were very good and plentiful. There is an hourly shuttle connection from the hotel into the center of Ubud. The Internet connection via WiFi in the rooms was perfect and fast. Definitely a place to visit again when in Bali.

I am a tour operator for Africa and am very badly spoiled by our wonderful 5 star lodges... however I must say the service at the Pita Maha challenges the best of them. We were astonished by the fast, professional service of the hotel from room service to the hotel concierge and laundry. Our room, the 'spa villa' was absolutely gorgeous, very romantic, and was the perfect blend of traditional Balinese architecture and contemporary comfort. The hotel is ideally located near the heart of Ubud and has shuttles every hour to town. There are several great restaurants within walking distance (the BEST is just next door...)as well as fabulous shopping. Best massage in all Bali at the hotel. Highly recommended. Room Tip: Spendy but worth it! The villa spa. All rooms are good though w great views.
