“Beautiful relaxing hotel with lovely friendly gracious staff”
Reviewed 23 April 2013

My husband an I stayed at the Pita Maha, for 6 nights, several months ago, in February, and on return, I wrote a lyrical review praising it, however unfortunately I did not save it correctly...
The highlights were the wonderful green views of the canyon. Watching the occasional squirrel rocket up the trees, in the distance, while we enjoyed a civilised pampered breakfast. (We were lucky, breakfast was included ). The restaurant staff were always smiling and helpful. All staff in the resort from check in to check out were polite, helpful, friendly and always smiling. The infinity pool was special. Usually empty of others - due to most villas having their own pools. It was private and secluded. And so relaxing even my husband loved it . In 20 years of marriage he has rarely ever gone swimming, but he would prop himself on the far edge and gaze entranced at the scenary below. The gardens were absolutey fabulous. In the afternoon and evening the dulcet tones of gamelon music would drift through the trees. Welcoming you back to the cool quiet shade of the resort after the heat and bustle of downtown Ubud. The hourly free shuttle bus, meant the resort was only 5 minutes from the centre of town, but it felt a world away. The drivers were always courteous and especially at night, ensured you returned safely, checking carefully there were no late arrivals stranded. It was a very clean resort, neither my husband nor I succumbed to any illness. The highlight of the trip was watching the graceful , colorful balinese dance, set amid the illuminated stone backdrop of the Royal Palace , flanked by lotus ponds. Otherworldly....

Room Tip: Due to a bad knee, our agent requested a room that was easy to walk to, as part of the resort's...

A fantastic place to stay in Ubud - a little bit like in paradise!
Beautiful villas and an extraordinary pool within the tropical forest of Ubud.
The staff was great and very helpful - if we come back we'll book here again!

Room Tip: The villas without pool are excellent, too - the pool of the hotel is so fantastic - we didn't n...

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights at the end of our first trip to Bali. We wish we had have had more nights here. Very private, wonderful staff, stunning scenery. We had a private villa with a plunge pool, it was a real treat. A wonderful way to celebrate 30 years married.

The Pita Maha is an outstanding boutique resort of 23 villas, some with pools. We stayed in a Pool Villa for 10 nights. The Villa was very spacious and well designed in a traditional Balinese fashion with a magnificent bamboo/straw ceiling. Stunning views from the fully glassed wall with double doors to the surrounding landscape. Brilliant for watching the morning sun rise.

We particularly liked the large shower and sunken bath area, which although under the main roof, had external moss covered walls and a natural Balinese ambience

The garden areas were surrounded by high stone walls on 3 sides which provided total privacy to the neighbouring Villas, to the rear of the Villa, a low stone wall to the simply amazing view of the tropical forest valley and the meandering river below.

The place had very relaxing aura about it, which no doubt was due to the tranquillity of the environment, the aromas of the Frangipani, Hibiscus trees and other flowering shrubs. No doubt the water gently splashing into our pool from the large ornamental frog and the traditional music that softly drifted down to our Villa from the two musicians alongside the main reception had its part to play.

The Pools Villas are on the lower terraces of the Resort and therefore, there are numerous steps to climb to access the restaurant and the Reception. So if you have problem knees or other mobility issues you would be better off booking one of the Garden Villas which are closer to the restaurant and reception. For us the steps were a real benefit as we typically overindulge during our holidays, so in the absence of a boring gym, the steps helped to work off a few additional calories

Great staff always play an important role in a holiday and the staff were always willing to assist with a positive and very courteous attitude, winning smiles. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble. In fact the staff appeared to be really interested in us and our plans for our day and on return politely inquiring if our day had gone to plan.

If you decide to venture out to explore Ubud, (although it's hard to leave the villa or the Resorts beautifully located infinity pool), a shuttle takes the 5 minute trip on the hour from 9am -9pm and at other times for $A5 to any location in Ubud.

Before I booked this Resort I checked out all the reviews for this property and despite the significant number of very positive reviews I found one that criticised the food and one that complained about ants.

Firstly the food: We had a number of meals sent to our villa and dined in the restaurant breakfast and some evening meals. We thought the meals were well presented, well cooked and delicious (we just love Balinese food) and good value. In particular the 4 course set menu that was prepared just for us in front of the Hotel Shrine. It included sparkling rose and a 2 hour massage. The setting was brilliant the menu could not be faulted nor could the quality of the service and--- incredible value - $125. Not to be missed!

As for the ants, yes we did find a few ants in the outside shower/bath area and on the veranda, we also found a vast array of nectar eating birds enjoying the hibiscus and other flowering shrubs, squirrels foraging in the garden’s trees (and playing on our stone front wall), gecko’s singing out at night and the odd beetle and dragon fly buzzing around. We accepted them all as being part of an outstanding authentic tropical environment.

We loved it all and can’t wait to return sometime soon.

Room Tip: The Pool Villas have the best views although you have to negotiate a number of steps, so if that is...

We recently stayed at Pita Maha for 3 nights on our honeymoon. The villa with private pool was sensational and the view was spectacular. Staff were so friendly and obliging. Shuttle bus to Main Street was helpful and the complimentary morning trek on Tuesday and Fridays is definitely worth doing! The traditional balinese massage was also great. Thank you so much for your hospitality- we would love to come back soon. Samantha and Liam R

We stayed here for only 2 nights (March 25. to 27.), unfortunately at the first evening I had an accident (broken left arm). I had to stay in the clinic Kasih Ibu in Denpasar.
What happend then, nobody can imagine.
The whole staff and management has done everything to help me and my family.
They drove my family the way to the clinic in Denpasar several times, they brought breakfast from Pita Maha to the clinic, I've got unbelieveable pretty flowers as a present...
...and all that without any financial interest, just to help us.
Me and my family want to say thank you once more to the staff and the management.
Btw. service, cleanliness, location, rooms, sleep quality was also excellent as my family said.
Spa and fitness center we'll try next time.
Special thanks to Mr. Agung Joni.
